His Good Rankings[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
Mafia 2[]
- He started out as a poor immigrant who came from Sicily, Italy, to Empire Bay (New York) in order to achieve "The American Dream" with his family.
- He dropped out of school when he was a teenager due to a financial crisis. He started doing petty crimes like stealing food from grocery stores and pickpocketing along with his best friend, Joe Barbaro. Apparently, he did all of this because his family was living in poverty, and his father didn't earn enough money to feed their family.
- When he was 18, he joined the military to serve his country during World War 2 rather than go to prison, where he fought Mussolini's fascist regime in his hometown, Sicily.
- He beat up a loan shark thug who harassed his sister. He also promised her to pay their father's debt after his death.
- He listens to his mother's advice of finding a decent job by working for Derek Pappalardo at the docks.
- He beat up a man who's trying to assault Joe Barbaro's girl for bumping into his car, saying that he doesn't like when a man laid his hands on a woman.
- He looked and felt remorseful after seeing Henry Tomasino kill Sidney Pen, even though the man begged and cried for having a wife and children.
- He fulfilled his promise to his family by giving his sister $2000 to pay off their late father's debt.
- He became a prison fighter for Leo Galante and earned respects and recognition from some of the inmates there.
- He promoted his best friend, Henry Tomasino, to the Falcone Crime Family.
- When Eddie Scarpa offered him to drive Henry to Leo Galante's house to kill him, he refused and said that Leo is like a father to him back in jail, proving that he still loves and respects Leo.
- He warned Leo Galante after finding out that The Falcones sent Henry to kill him. He convinced Henry not to kill Leo by arranging a deal with him. His plan eventually worked, as Henry agreed to let Leo live by sending him out of town and faking his death.
- He beat up his brother-in-law, Eric Reilly, for abusing and cheating on his wife, who is also Vito's older sister, Francesca Scaletta.
- After finding out the truth about his father's death at the hands of Derek Pappalardo and his henchman Steve Coyne, he teamed up with the dockworkers to kill both of them and their men. This also ended Derek's abusive and toxic behavior towards the workers.
- He paid off his debts to Bruno Levine. When he realized that Bruno is the same loan shark who loaned money to his late father, he decided to just walk away and forget everything instead of starting more trouble with him.
Mafia 3[]
- He worked as one of the caporegimes in Sal Marcano's family in New Bordeaux. He's known to be one of the most intelligent and competent capos. Because of this, the Marcanos often envy him and fear that someday he would take over their business.
- He showed a respect for Lincoln Clay, a young black man who fought in Vietnam. This is probably due to their similar background, both serving in the military at a young age and recognizing him as a fellow war hero who earned few medals just like him.
- He planned the Federal Reserve heist along with the Marcanos, Black Mob, and Irish Gang. His plans and strategy are shown to be effective that even Lincoln Clay and Giorgi Marcano admit.
- He's still finding out clues about Joe Barbaro's whereabouts after they both got separated as a part of the deal with Leo Galante, proving that he still cared about his best friend
- He teamed up with Lincoln Clay, Cassandra, and Thomas Burke in order to take down Marcano's hegemony over New Bordeaux.
- After killing Michael Grecco, a man sent by Sal Marcano to set him up, he cut ties with the Marcanos after finding out that they can't be trusted anymore.
- If Lincoln decided to give one of his territories for him, he often throws a joke about "making him a fresh bucatini" as a reward, proving that he had some good sense of humor.
- If Lincoln decided to betray him, he fought for his life with bravery until his last breath, unlike Cassandra and Burke who begged to Lincoln.
- In one of the endings, and probably the best ending in the entire game, Vito became the new ruler of New Bordeaux underworld after Lincoln gave up his territories for him and decided to leave town. Under Vito, the city thrives, with him building hotels, shopping malls, condos, resort, casinos, and other public infrastructures. He even started a foundation under him and Lincoln Clay's name to help the people of New Bordeaux.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- While he may use his power and influence as a crime lord to help others, and is certainly more affable and forgiving than most (unlike Marcano), he's still directly and indirectly responsible for breaking several laws and exploiting others for his own benefit.
- He's on & off, having committed several heinous acts such as murder, theft, burglary and assault throughout the series. This automatically disqualifies him from PG or NPG.
- He's a jerk to people and, one a few occasions, has called people racial slurs. Although, he's more a product of the times as opposed to being genuinely racist or xenophobic, given his own immigrant background and respect toward Lincoln.
- He committed an act of terrorism by bombing the Empire Arms Hotel to kill Alberto Clemente and his men.
- He took part in the assassination of Tommy Angelo with his friend, Joe Barbaro.
- He deals drugs with Joe and Henry, despite knowing drugs are prohibited by The Commission.
- His decision to bring Henry Tomasino into the business resulted in fatal consequences, as Henry turned out to be an undercover DEA agent.
- He and Joe sparked a gang war between the Italians and the Triads after massacring most of their members, along with Zhe Yun Wong.
- He killed Michael Grecco for setting him up in a gruesome way by cutting his body into pieces.
Trivia[]
- He is one of three Mafia characters to be Inconsistently Admirable, alongside the other two protagonists Tommy Angelo and Lincoln Clay.
