Evolution has a destination. Not to combat nature, but to supersede it. The final glorious evolution.
~ Viktor.

Viktor, also known as The Herald of the Arcane and The Machine Herald, is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Ekko and Mel Medarda) of Riot Games/Netflix's 2021 animated series Arcane, based on the popular 2009 online video game League of Legends.

He is the closest friend and scientific partner of Jayce Talis, and formerly served as an assistant to Heimerdinger. A brilliant inventor and co-creator of Hextech, Viktor was once a resident of the Undercity, where he was born with a terminal illness. In his early years, he became an assistant to Singed and later moved to Piltover under Heimerdinger's guidance. It was there that he met Jayce, forming a strong partnership and a deep friendship. Driven by a desire to better the lives of people in both Piltover and Zaun, Viktor devotes himself to groundbreaking research—while also searching desperately for a cure for his own condition.

After surviving a council chamber explosion, Viktor was brought back to life using the Hexcore, powerful technology that transformed much of his body into machinery and granted him healing abilities. As he began using these powers to help others, he gradually adopted a more radical belief: that human emotion must be cast aside to reach humanity’s highest potential.

He is voiced by Harry Lloyd.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Talks Jayce out of committing suicide.
  • Collaborates with Jayce to revolutionize Hextech, ushering in a new era of innovation and prosperity for Piltover.
  • Firmly opposes Mel's plans to militarize Hextech, believing it should be used to uplift rather than destroy.
  • Overwhelmed by grief after Sky's death, he is prepared to erase all of his work, even if it means throwing away all his work.
  • After being revived through the Hexcore following Jinx’s attack, he uses his newfound abilities to heal the sick and ease the suffering of others in the Undercity.
  • Establishes a peaceful sanctuary where people from all walks of life can coexist without fear or violence.
  • Offers his help to Vi and Jinx in their mission to free Vander from Warwick’s control.
  • Initially rejects Singed’s proposal to merge Warwick’s blood with his own.
  • Tries to save Jayce, urging Jayce to escape and leave him behind.
  • In his most heroic act, he and Jayce willingly sacrifice themselves to destroy the wild rune—choosing the lives of others over their own after witnessing the devastating future that could have been.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • After being resurrected by the Hexcore, he became a fallen hero who was willing to carry out questionable actions for the greater good. This includes turning his followers into robotic zombies, erasing Vander’s memories and turning him into a weapon, and trying to force humanity into assimilation by removing their free will.
    • While the Hexcore has a corrupting influence, it doesn’t completely take away moral agency—meaning all of Viktor’s actions after his resurrection are fully his own decisions.

Trivia[]

  • He and Jinx are currently the only Arcane/League of Legends characters to qualify as Inconsistently Admirable.
  • He's the only character from Arcane to be both Inconsistently Admirable and Inconsistently Heinous.
