Eyes, lungs, pancreas, so many snacks so little time.
~ Venom's first line.
We are Venom.
~ Venom speaking with Eddie
I'll never forget you. Don't forget me, Eddie. It's just bye for now.
~ Venom's parting words to Eddie.

Venom is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Eddie Brock) of the Venom trilogy within Sony's Spider-Man Universe and a minor character in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home.

He is an extra-terrestrial being who was brought to Earth by Life Foundation, he infects ex-journalist Eddie Brock. After defeating Life Foundation's head, Carlton Drake, and his symbiote, the genocidal Riot, the two become protectors of San Francisco until he nobly sacrifices himself to stop Knull from committing genocide.

He was voiced by Tom Hardy, who also portrayed Eddie Brock in the same series.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

Background[]

  • Unlike Riot, he doesn’t attack innocent people for food.
  • Long ago, he decided he'd had enough of Knull, so he and the other symbiotes courageously turned on their deranged and genocidal overlord and imprisoned him on Klyntar. Venom sincerely hoped he will remain unconscious forever.

Venom[]

  • He helps Eddie escape Drake's facility when they first bond together.
  • He fights of a group of mercenaries sent by Drake to capture Eddie.
  • He heals Eddie from a serious motor cycle crash.
  • He helps Eddie break in to his old workplace and locate incriminating evidence of Carlton Drake's crimes.
  • Convinces Eddie to apologize to Anne for his actions.
  • He bonds with Anne and saves Brock from being killed by Drake's men.
  • Defeats Riot and saves the world and all its inhabitants from an invasion of his species.
  • Sacrifices himself to save Eddie from the rocket explosion (although he survives).
  • Agrees to only eat bad people and protect the innocent.
  • Eats a thug who tried to rob Mrs. Chen's store.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage[]

  • Helps Eddie locate the bodies of Kasady's victims which gives him a career boost.
  • Refuses to eat Sonny and Cher because they are best friends.
  • Didn't get mad at Eddie for insulting him after learning Anne engaged to Dan, admitting he is hurting too and he'll help Eddie get through it.
  • After separating from Eddie after their falling out, he finds Anne and the two break Eddie out of prison.
  • Tried to save the church priest from getting killed by Carnage.
  • Rescues Anne when she gets kidnapped by Shriek, Cletus and Carnage.
  • Saves Dan when Carnage nearly kills him.
  • Saves Eddie from falling to his death.
  • Defeats Carnage and Kasady, thus ending their murderous rampage and saving San Francisco.
  • Allows Anne to stay with Dan after he helps him in the battle with Carnage, believing Dan is right for her.

Spider-Man: No Way Home[]

  • Tries to meet Spider-Man and become the Lethal Protector in the MCU. However, both he and Eddie are sent home before they can.

Venom: The Last Dance[]

  • Kills a gang of dog fighters and frees the caged dogs.
  • Informs Eddie about Knull and the Codex then hides to not lead the Xenophage to them.
  • Protects Eddie from the Xenophage and saves him from being captured by Strickland's men.
  • Frees the other symbiotes from containment and fights alongside them to defeat the Xenophage.
  • Saves Martin Moon and his family.
  • Sacrifices himself to kill the Xenophage and destroy the Codex, preventing Knull from escaping his prison and conquering the universe. And given Knull threatening to massacre the Xenophages if they failed, Venom definitely gave these morally oblivious animals a mercy kill.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is an anti-hero whose main motivation for killing criminals is because of self-preservation, being on & off, doing villainous things such as eating people (albeit out of necessity), destroying public property, and being a public menace before his redemption.
  • He is extremely lethal and even enjoys killing certain individuals. While he needs to eat to survive, he does show some sadism when eating his enemies. For example, while Eddie shows Cletus sympathy in his final moments, Venom angrily bites his head off with no regret. He also wanted to eat Mrs. Chen just because her store didn’t have any chocolate available.
  • He's a massive jerk. For example, in the first movie, when he first introduces himself to Eddie, he calls him a loser. He also calls him a sexist slur when he takes the elevator instead of jumping out of a window (which would been dangerous). He gets irrationally angry when Eddie calls him a parasite. In Let There Be Carnage, after getting bored of his life, he has a huge falling out with Eddie, wrecking his apartment and giving him the middle finger as he leaves. He even throws aside a plate of corn offered by a new friend when Eddie is clearly famished at the time.
  • Even though he shows genuine care and respect for Eddie, it is sometimes half-hearted as he will react with contempt and annoyance to some of Eddie's conversations and considerations about/to him.
  • He can be very careless, especially when he takes control over Eddie's body to dance with Mrs. Chen despite knowing that it would lead the Xenophage right to them, something Eddie calls him out for, yelling that they never do anything he desires.
