Prince Vegeta IV, or just simply Vegeta, is the deuteragonist of the Dragon Ball franchise. He starts as a villain, but as the story progresses, he becomes one of the heroes of the Z Warriors.
He is the prince of the warrior race known as the Saiyans. He is Bulma's husband and the father of Trunks and Bulla, as well as Goku's former arch-nemesis, rival, and best friend.
He is voiced by Ryo Horikawa in the Japanese version of the anime, Brian Drummond in the Ocean Dub and Christopher R. Sabat in the Funimation dub, who also voices Zoro in One Piece.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
In General[]
- His Saiyan pride was initially toxic, but due to his character development, that becomes more stable.
- After the Frieza Saga, he's just as consistent in training as Goku instead of just relying on near death experience to get stronger. Eventually, he gets few proper mentors in order to control his fighting abilities further.
- No matter what he does, Vegeta is always faithful to Bulma and has no interest in any other women.
- While he wasn't fond of Future Trunks at first, he gradually grew to care for him. He acknowledges Future Trunks as a true Saiyan; even admitted to Cell about that. At the end of Cell Saga, Vegeta even bids Future Trunks farewell before the latter returns to his timeline. By the time of Dragon Ball Super, he treats Future Trunks far more better than he did in Dragon Ball Z.
- After the Majin Buu conflict, he's more consistent to protect his family and gets along more on those are closest to him. He even aids Goku very often throughout Dragon Ball Super.
- He has most knowledge about saiyan history that he can share with his allies.
- Vegeta inspires both timeline versions of Trunks to learn some of his techniques such as Final Flash and Future Trunks wears Vegeta's battle armor during the late Cell Saga.
- Unlike Trunks and Goten as Gotenks, Vegeta and Goku as both Vegito and Gogeta fight dangerous universal level threats far more seriously (at least in canon).
- He approves both timeline versions of Trunks having a relationship with their respective versions of Mai.
- He became a role model for Cabba and indirectly (and direct case for Cabba) has Universe 6 saiyans to discover the existance of Super Saiyan transformations.
- Even at his absolute worst, he never go as far as endangering the multiverse (unlike Beerus and a remorseful Goku).
- Throughout the series, while Vegeta maintains his Saiyan pride and heritage, he grew to adjust his life on Earth. He was grew up from various violent evironments that made him too evil by Saiyan standards that even fellow saiyans like Nappa and Raditz fears him. By the time he lives on Earth and live in a luxurious life to have (some degree of) freedom, Vegeta gradually becomes a well rounded person that cares about (most) people other than himself. In addition, his heroic actions are no longer consider as by proxy. The reflection of his outfits showcase that he initially wears a full battle armor with a scouter at his very first appearance In DBZ to the events at the end of DBZ that he wears Earth's gym clothes when he participates the 28th World Tournament.
- Although Goku is more admirable than him, he was sometimes less powerful than Goku since the Frieza Saga where Goku did more than him allowing him to stand out from Goku.
Dragon Ball Z[]
Frieza Saga[]
- Before heading to Planet Namek, he quits the Frieza Force.
- Even though he has his own reasons, he plans to prevent Frieza from being immortal.
- Defeats Cui, Dodoria, and eventually Zarbon.
- Decided to team up with Gohan, Krillin, Goku, and later Piccolo in order to defeat the Ginyu Force and take down Frieza.
- He, Gohan, and Krillin tried to prevent the Ginyu Force from getting all seven Namekian Dragon Balls.
- He informed Gohan and Krillin about how to fight Guldo. Eventually, he saved their lives when both of them are unable to defeat the weakest of the Ginyu Force.
- He and Krillin were horrifed that Recoome snaped Gohan's neck by kicking him.
- Killed the members of Ginyu Force (except Captain Ginyu at that time), although he does this brutally and after they were defeated, he does so to ensure they can't hurt anyone else; this is shown as when Goku scolds him for not showing mercy, he tells them they are scum and don't deserve it.
- While he was going to kill Captain Ginyu (while in a body of a Namekian Frog), but Vegeta chose to spare him because the captain of the Ginyu Force posed no threat by Goku's request.
- Put Goku in a healing chamber due to his injury following his fight against Captain Ginyu.
- Provided Gohan and Krillin battle armor since their respective gi are damaged.
- Before Goku's full recovery, he and the Z Fighters tried to fight off Frieza.
- When he was about to die due to Frieza's deadly attack, Vegeta begged Goku to finish off Frieza and avenge the Saiyan race once and for all. These words were key for Goku to finally face and defeat Frieza, thus avenging the Saiyan race and ending his universal tyranny, at least for some time.
- Anime only: Upon his revival (from Earth's Dragon Balls) and happy to see Goku as a Super Saiyan for the first time, he tried to attack Frieza before he teleports to Earth by the Namekian Dragon Balls.
- He adviced Bulma how to carefully revive the Z Fighters that had died in action.
- He takes Bulma's offer to stay at her place since he has no where else to go.
Garlic Jr. Saga (non-canon)[]
- While making his (failed) attempt to search for Goku at space, he took down some of Frieza Force soldiers in two occasions.
Cell Saga[]
- Before Frieza and King Cold are killed by Future Trunks, he led the Z Fighters and tells them not to release their energy yet since the Frieza Force has scouters.
- He trained to prepare to fight the androids while achiving Super Saiyan.
- Saved Goku from being killed by Android 19 when Android 19 was gradually absorbing his life energy, and although he did this mainly so he could have a chance to defeat Goku with his bare hands, he still saved Goku from certain death.
- Defeated and killed Android 19, and although without mercy, it was still necessary. While killing Andorid 19, he called out Andorid 20, later reveal to be Dr. Gero, for pleading to spare him since both androids were planning to destroy the Z Fighters.
- He accepted Goku's offer to train at the Time Chamber on the condition that he and Future Trunks go in before Goku and Gohan do.
- Before the Cell Games, he tried to defeat Cell.
- Vegeta allowed Piccolo to train at the Time Chamber since the latter is the only one out of the five strongest Z Fighters has not trained there yet.
- He and the Z Fighters tried to defeat Cell Jrs. until Gohan finally took action.
- Seeing that Cell had killed his son Future Trunks, Vegeta went into a rage and attacked Cell in retribution for killing his son from the future.
- He apologized to Gohan for interrupting his fight with Cell because Vegeta wanted to avenge Future Trunks's death.
- He managed to distract Cell long enough for Gohan to finally finish him off for good, saving the entire Solar System (and the universe) from certain destruction.
Majin Buu Saga (including End of DBZ)[]
- Having become significantly less evil, Vegeta would eventually settle down on Earth and would raise Trunks with Bulma.
- He and Bulma upgraded their relationship further by marriage.
- Showed remorse when he punches Trunks too hard.
- He was proud of Trunks of winning at the Junior Division.
- Despite his initial reluctance, Vegeta aided Shin (who turns out to be Supreme Kai), Kabito, and some of the Z Fighters to take down Babidi and his forces.
- He defeated Pui Pui, even when the latter tries to get an upper hand.
- Even when briefly gone rouge, he was shocked when Goku threatened to kill Supreme Kai. Also he can't bring himself to kill his friends, allies, and family; not even Goku.
- After sensing Majin Buu's unsealing and being influenced by Goku's words, Vegeta became ashamed of himself for selling his soul to Babidi and decided to fight Majin Buu on his own as he knocks out Goku. He also regretted getting Gohan in danger again.
- Before encountering Buu, he destroyed Babidi's spaceship.
- During his fight with Fat Buu, realizing that he is unable to defeat the new threat and reflecting on his entire life of villainy, Vegeta gave his first hug to his son, Trunks, before sacrificing himself by self-destructing to try and finish off Fat Buu once and for all to protect his loved ones (he does it even after Piccolo told him that he would go to Hell for killing countless innocents). While this fails to defeat Fat Buu, this is the most selfless and heroic thing he's ever done and he fully redeems himself with this act.
- While he knocks out Trunks and Goten, it's only so that the boys don't follow him and face Majin Buu.
- He did not hesitate to accept King Yemma's request to fight Buu again.
- Although reluctantly, he finally agreed to merge with Goku to become Vegito, finish off Super Buu and at the same time free all the Z Fighters that Buu had absorbed.
- He ripped off Good Buu out of Super Buu and caused the the latter Buu de-transforming into Kid Buu. This is a good strategic choice because while both evil Buus intend to destory Earth, Kid Buu is (canonically) weaker than base form Super Buu.
- Vegeta instantly reacted of Kid Buu's first attempt to destory Earth by preventing the latter's ki blast. Sadly, Buu makes a second attempt to make a ki blast so powerful that neither Vegeta nor Goku are able to stop that.
- While blaming himself, he got angry at Goku for choosing to not saving their sons and Piccolo.
- Managed to let go of his envy against Goku and fully acknowledged him as the better of the two.
- Vegeta tried to fight off Kid Buu long enough for Goku reach full power to defeat him. It backfired when Goku got too exhausted.
- While Kid Buu was fighting Good Buu, Vegeta proposed to revive everyone that were killed since the morning of the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament (except for evil ones), wanting to revive the innocent people he himself killed as Majin Vegeta as well as reviving those killed by Babidi and his henchmen, without any care for his own revival. This act, along with his sacrifice against Majin Buu is enough for Porunga to consider him as a non-evil person, reviving him. The reason he did this early instead of later is because he wanted Goku to use the Spirit Bomb at Kid Buu.
- By taking a huge beating, he distracted Kid Buu long enough for Goku to use the Spirit Bomb to finish off Kid Buu once and for all, saving the entire universe from the evil being.
- He and Goku became more friendly after Kid Buu's defeat as they give each other thumbs up. This is lampshaded by the English Dub narrator of Dragon Ball Z.
- Agreed to spare Good Buu after Goku convinced him to do so.
- Anime only: During the party that is host by Bulma, Vegeta willingly shares some of his food to Good Buu.
- Before the 28th World Tournament begins, Vegeta calmly knocks out his would be opponent (named Nok) for the latter's rude behavior.
Dragon Ball Daima (anime exclusive series)[]
- Joined Goku in his quest to search for the Demon Realm Dragon Balls in order to turn their friends back to their normal ages.
- Saved Dende from getting killed by Degesu.
- Assisted Goku in his fight with Gomah.
Dragon Ball Super[]
Beerus Saga[]
- He rejected Mr. Satan's generous offer of reciving 100,000,000 zeni because the former is already financially stable.
- Anime only: Spends time with Bulma and Trunks in a family trip.
- He managed to keep Beerus from destroying the Earth in a fit of rage, even if it meant humiliating himself in the process.
- When Beerus slapped his wife Bulma, Vegeta was so enraged that he attacked Beerus in a blind rage, stating that no one hurts his wife, showing how protective he had become after all this time. This motivated Vegeta to finally fight back at Beerus.
- He decided to give Goku energy so that he could achieve the state of Super Saiyan God in order to face Beerus, showing that he is capable of putting his pride aside if it means saving the entire universe.
- Prevented Piccolo from stopping Whis by stealthy reassuring him that things will be alright and to avoid making things worse by angering him.
- Saved Goku from falling on the ground and was prepared to face off against Beerus again while telling everyone to stay behind him for safety.
- Decided to have Whis as his (first) proper mentor.
Golden Frieza Saga[]
- He and Goku, despite being in middle of their training at Beerus's planet, arrived at Earth to confront the resurrected Frieza.
- Killed Captain Ginyu for good despite Goku's protests since Captain Ginyu still had the body swap technique, which is dangerous enough to consider the latter as the universal threat.
- He saved Goku and Krillin from being killed by Frieza by deflecting the energy attack to Sorbet and killed the latter.
- When Frieza tried to convince him to kill Goku in order to become his second-in-command, Vegeta rejected his offer, much to Frieza's anger.
- Fought Frieza and technically defeated him.
Universe 6 Saga[]
- Got annoyed of Jaco's harrassment towards Bulma.
- Suggested that the Tournament of Destoryers involve a written exam to ensure that participants would have a basic level of intelligence to understand the rules of the tournment. (This partially backfired for Team Universe 7 because neither Goku nor Buu are academically skilled. While Goku barely passed, Buu failed because he fell asleep during the test).
- He expressed his disgust at Frost for cheating upon finding out the latter uses a poison needle.
- Realizing that Cabba is a Saiyan like himself, Vegeta decided to push him to his limits and make him Super Saiyan, promising to train him later to make him stronger.
- He won the three round winning streak for Team Universe 7 before he was defeated by Hit.
Copy Vegeta Saga (anime exclusive arc)[]
- While rescuing Trunks and Goten, they tried to defeat Copy Vegeta, Vegeta's evil counterpart.
- Nearly sacrificed his life to save Trunks from the Superhuman Water.
Future Trunks Saga[]
- Encouraged Future Trunks to not be complacent due to stronger enemies appearing all the time.
- Fought Goku Black after learning he killed Future Bulma.
- Fused with Goku to become Vegito again so that Merged Zamasu can be defeated.
- As Vegito, he called out Fused Zamasu of the latter's flaws (especially in the anime version).
- With the help of Goku, Future Trunks, and Future Zeno, he managed to finish off Infinite Zamasu, thus saving the entire multiverse and multiple timelines (except Future Trunks's timeline itself).
Tournament of Power Saga[]
- Initially refused the offer to participate in the Tournament of Power due to Bulma being pregnant. Considering Vegeta left Bulma earlier when she was pregnant with Trunks, this shows his growth and love for his family. Vegeta only joined the Tournament of Power after Bulla is born and Bulma assured him they would be fine. In the manga gag panel, he even did far more basic chores than he usually does so that Bulma can take it easy.
- Anime only: He showed Trunks how to properly hold his newborn sister.
- Like the rest of Team Universe 7, he was not very happy about Goku selecting Frieza to be part of the team.
- Helped his teammates on several occasions throughout the Tournament of Power, such as saving Roshi from Frost.
- Saved Cabba from elimination and encouraged him to embrace his Saiyan pride.
- When Cabba (alongside Universe 6) was eliminated, Vegeta vowed to bring the universe back if he got the opportunity to request the wish from the Super Dragon Balls. This allowed Vegeta to unlock SSBE.
- During his fight against Top, by reflecting on his life and how he wants to save his loved ones, he gained enough motivation to finally defeat Top.
- Manga only: Vegeta calls out Jiren for his selfish intentions to use the Super Dragon Balls to revive the latter's late master just to see how much he improved himself.
- Finally being defeated by Jiren, Vegeta decided to give all his remaining energy to Goku so that he can finally face the warrior from Universe 11, thus saving Universe 7.
- He was happy that Android 17 restores the universes (including Universe 6) and their inhabitants that were erased by Zeno & Future Zeno.
- Vegeta even gives 17 a yacht as thanks for helping out Team Universe 7 in the manga version.
Broly Movie/Saga[]
- While he was angry at Goku for sparing Frieza and letting him go after the Tournament of Power, it was very understandable considering of all the heinous things Frieza has done. Not to mention that Vegeta brought up a good point about the tyrant achieving more power and coming back for revenge.
- He warns Bulma before hand that she should have Earth's Dragon Balls she collects to be more secured. (Because of Bulma ignores Vegeta's advice, that's how low level members of the Frieza Force easily stole the Dragon Balls.)
- He and Goku tried to defeat Broly in one-on-one fight and they even tried to team up to beat him.
- Although reluctantly, he agreed to fuse with Goku to become Gogeta in order to defeat Broly after Goku reminded him that his loved ones could die if he doesn't agree.
- As a part of Gogeta with Goku, Vegeta choosed to spare Frieza for the time being (even though Vegeta understandably hates Frieza) and stopped him from killing Cheelai and Lemo.
Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga[]
- He, Goku, and Good Buu are recuited by Galactic Patrol and they attempted to defeat Moro at New Planet Namek.
- Showed genuine remorse for the Namekians he killed during his villainous days and vowed to defeat Moro.
- Trained at Planet Yardrat to control his ki and learn few techniques.
- When Planet Yardrat was briefly invaded by small group by Moro's army, Vegeta defeated them and even tries spare their lives.
- Used one of his techniques to revive the Namekians that Moro had killed.
- Helped Goku to finally defeat Moro, thus saving the entire universe again. During the battle, Goku and the Z-Fighters also reflected on how hard Vegeta has worked to finally achieve redemption after a lifetime as a villain.
Granolah the Survivor Saga[]
- Vegeta enraged at Beerus when the latter admitted that he ordered Frieza to kill the Saiyans at Planet Vegeta and the planet's destruction.
- Agreed with Beerus that other than Frieza, most of Universe 7 Saiyans (including himself) are at fault for countless innocents they slaughtered.
- Has Beerus as his mentor, which causes Vegeta to obtain Ultra Ego.
- Sympathized with Granolah during their fight over the loss of his race.
- Attempted to defeat the Heeters and stop them from obtaining the Cerealian Dragon Balls.
- When he witnessed Gas's zombified state, Vegeta was horrified of the concequnces of anyone using the Dragon Balls to make themselves as the strongest fighter/warrior of the universe at the cost of their physical well being (when taking too much damage) and most of their lifespan.
- He and Goku tried to defeat Frieza.
- Gave Granolah the Dragon Radar so he can find the Cerealian Dragon Balls and undo the damage he did to Planet Cereal.
Super Hero Movie/Saga[]
- He, Goku, and Whis took turns to train Broly.
- He trained himself to achieve relaxed state after experincing various battles from Jiren to Frieza (upon the latter opponent obtains his Black form).
- He was proud of Gohan for getting stronger and being more consistent on training.
- Sparred with Goku, Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and Broly. Later on, he ate food with them.
- He scolded Goku for not recognizing his own granddaughter, Pan.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Even if he's grown less arrogant over the years, he's still way too prideful and jerkish to qualify as PG or even NPG, such as when he rubs Trunks' victory against Goten in the 25th World Tournament in Goku's face, when he cruelly insults Magetta with no remorse when he feels really offended and when he refuses to lend Goku his energy to defeat Jiren with a Spirit Bomb, something that even Frieza (a Pure Evil character) does, albeit pragmatically.
- Despite being fully redeemed, due to his past actions as a villain, he committed too many heinous and unforgivable crimes to ignore despite being redeemed since then such as wiping out entire races and selling their planets, betraying and murdering his partner Nappa, slaughtering an entire Namekian village that included elders and children, causing civilian deaths during his fight with Android 18, and killing dozens of people at the World Tournament Arena to spite Goku into fighting him, which eventually led to the revival of Majin Buu, who killed all of Vegeta's loved ones and the people of Earth, and what's worse is that most of these people were never brought back to life.
- He's somewhat of a poor father to Trunks, as his parenting is the main reason for Trunks' behaviour (and to an extension, Gotenks'), which he refuses to take responsibility for, and despite growing to care for him, Vegeta is still rather neglectful towards him and refuses to train with him, and he even goes as far as to insult him by calling him and Goten useless and (in the manga) whelps.
- He almost never shows his enemies any mercy (for a good reason on some of them at least), as shown when he nearly kills Broly without realizing he's not actually a bad person.
- He can be reckless as shown in Dragon Ball Super anime that he destroyed the Hyperbolic Time Chamber twice. He got himself banned by Mr. Popo for it and irritated Piccolo.
- Just like Goku towards Goten, Vegeta forces Trunks to participate the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. The main difference is that Vegeta threatens to take away half of Trunks' allowence if he does not go there.
