Inconsistently Admirable Wiki
The Tinkerer

You may pass the Baseline, especially for a Non-Hero, but still not enough.

Hey guys, it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve last done something here at the IA Wiki (with only three Proposal’s under my past account Star Wars Fan Boy 1999), and having recently replayed though the entire Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series, Phin has to go, and with my upcoming Pathetic Pinhead Proposal for Scorpion (as well as other characters for the series on all sorts of different Wiki’s), I thought I’d make a quick start over here.

Before I start, thanks Ivan for giving me permission to do this.

What’s The Work?[]

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a video game series about the titular heroes, and their friends always having to defend New York from many villains, while also following somewhat of an overarching storyline or Norman Osborn trying to cure his son Harry of a terminal illness, which causes the vast majority of the issues that the heroes have to clean up.

Who’s The Candidate?[]

Phin Mason AKA The Tinkerer is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Simon Krieger) of the spin off Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Phin, is one of Miles’ childhood best friends in which after losing her brother Rick to Simon Krieger (once they uncovered his scheme to use Nurform for selfish purposes), she becomes a terrorist known as The

Why She Doesn’t Count[]

Ok, so Phin’s problem, is the series’ Admirable Standards. Don’t get me wrong, she easily passes the baseline (she saved Harlem after all sacrificing her life to do so, while even more ironically being a Non-Hero) and she easily passed the Admirable Standards when she was first Proposed here (which was before MSM2’s release), but MSM2 raised the Admirable Standards a fair bit, to the point Phin no longer passes, and although she can’t be compared to Peter, Miles and even Harry (as the former two have Spider Powers and the latter is the son of New York’s local billionaire) fails to the following characters (even with her sacrifice):

  • MJ- Who with way less resources (due to just being a local Reporter with very little money and influence) stole Venom’s Meteorite and destroyed it, which physically stopped his and Harry’s plan to “Heal the World” by forcefully tuning everyone into Symbiote’s, and freeing everyone already taken over by a Symbiote. Meanwhile, Phin is the leader of a mechanically advanced and fairly big gang.
  • Mister Negative/Martin Li- While at first you’d immediately think “No he’s in charge of an even bigger gang”, by the time he does his most admirable act (creating Spider-Man’s Anti Venom suit and without it, would’ve made Peter and Miles beating Venom/Harry practically impossible (as they obviously needed to deal with him while MJ went for the meteorite) and Li knew that Peter would’ve needed the suit to get as far as he could (hence why he’s IA himself), Li was merely an escaped convict without any true influence or criminal gang (resources don’t go in Phin’s favour, as Li willingly gave up his superpowers crafting the suit for Peter, meaning that he was an even more powerless convict by the time he performed his most admirable act).

So yeah, the odds don’t really go in Phin’s favour because while she had advanced technology and an entire gang, yet only helped save a fairly small portion of New York (while Miles also did most of the work I might add for that part as well as all Phin really did was fly him up into the sky essentially blow herself up when Miles released his powers, and it’s not like she tried to destroy The Reactor in a heroic or moral way beforehand), meanwhile, Mary who is just a lowly paid Reporter and Martin who is an escaped convict with way less resources, contributed fairly majorly to helping Peter and Miles save the World. Overall, like I said, she passes the Baseline for contributing to save Harlem, that’s still not enough to pass the Admirable Standards when compared to two people who helped save the World in a very important respective way with far less resources than Phin.

Plus, while her page says that she and Rick planned to “save the World” this isn’t really true, as it’s both not confirmed if by that point Krieger had thought far enough ahead to want to spread Nurform worldwide and as Phin says in her own words “Poisoning the City to make a Buck”. Notice how she says “City” not “World”. Once again, admirable, but there was clear exaggeration in her and Rick apparently attempting to save the World (even if say for example they were, Phin completely subverted it by becoming a terrorist). Once again even when her mad Rick do this, she still fails the Standards because her mad Rick have advanced technology to their advantage, while Li is a powerless convict.

Final Verdict?[]

I could see this being a bit controversial (and it’s a bit of a shame to see her potentially go), but I just can’t look past the resource gap between her and two way more admirable heroes, so I’m still gonna give her a fairly firm Cut for just failing the Admirable Standards too hard. But I respect anyone’s votes, opinions and potential counterpoints. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
