~ Ben (as Heatblast) to Eon. |
What's the Work?[]
Ben 10: Race Against Time is a 2007 made-for-TV movie based on the popular Cartoon Network series Ben 10, created by Man of Action.
Who's the Character?[]
Ben Tennyson is the titular main protagonist. He is a 10-year-old boy who recently discovered the Omnitrix, a powerful device that allows him to transform into various alien species, each with their own unique set of abilities.
The story follows Ben as he attempts to readjust to life back in his hometown after a summer filled with adventure, but when a time-manipulating alien from another dimension named Eon threatens to conquer their world by activating a powerful artifact called the Hands of Armageddon, Ben must step up to protect his town and the planet with the help of his cousin Gwen and Grandpa Max.
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
Background[]
- Using the powers of the Omnitrix, he saved countless lives and defeated villains such as Vilgax and Ghostfreak.
Movie[]
- After Eon arrives in Bellwood with his minions, causing mass destruction and attacking local law enforcement, Ben transforms into Heatblast and defeats them.
- Upon learning that Eon survived their initial encounter, Ben joins forces with Grandpa Max and Gwen to investigate Eon's plans.
- He helps defend the Hands of Armageddon from Eon's minions alongside the remaining Plumbers.
- When Max suggests they leave town to stay safe, Ben refuses to run, choosing instead to stand his ground and protect Bellwood.
- When Eon ambushes him at school and attacks Principal White, Ben transforms into Diamondhead and fights him off.
- He and Gwen attempt to trap Eon, hoping to stop him before his plan unfolds.
- After being captured, Eon reveals his true plan: to use the Omnitrix to transform Ben into a younger version of himself and power the Hands of Armageddon, opening a portal that would allow the Chronians to invade Earth. Eon tempts Ben with promises of god-like power if he surrenders, but Ben refuses and tries to resist, even as he's forcibly transformed into a Chronian.
- With Gwen’s help, Ben regains control of himself, breaks free from Eon's influence, and protects her from Eon's minions.
- When Max tries to sacrifice himself to disable the Hands of Armageddon, Ben stops him, saying he finally understands his role as a hero and refuses to let his grandfather die.
- In the final battle, he transforms into Wildmutt and defeats Eon, destroying the Hands of Armageddon, thus preventing the Chronian invasion and saving the world.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is extremely egotistical and arrogant. He views himself as superior to others because of his powers. This becomes especially clear when he returns to school and experiences culture shock, as he expects to be treated with respect and dignity, but instead, he continues to face bullying.
- He can be a huge jerk, especially toward his cousin Gwen. He constantly insults her, scares her for no reason, and photo-bombs her picture for the yearbook. He also throws Constantine Jacobs's withered hand away after they discover Eon has rapidly aged him, and transforms into Grey Matter to cause chaos at Le'Roys Café as payback against J.T. and Cash for bullying him.
- He is very impulsive and often makes decisions without thinking through the consequences, such as when he attempted to set a trap all by himself to confront Eon despite Max's warning, and when he almost revealed the truth about the Omnitrix to some school girls who were making fun of him. In his final battle with Eon, he used a time-frozen Gwen to knock Eon into the Hands of Armageddon. This not only put Gwen in danger but also, as revealed in Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, trapped Eon in the time stream. This allowed Eon to access the multiverse, ultimately making him even more powerful.
- He is lethal, as he showed no remorse when he supposedly burned and obliterated Eon during their initial battle, or when he defeats him at the end of the film, where it's left ambiguous if Eon survived (though he ultimately does).
Admirable Standard[]
Ben not only manages to stand out, he surpasses everyone else in terms of admirable standards. While Grandpa Max comes close by attempting to sacrifice himself to destroy the Hands of Armageddon, it's Ben who ultimately takes responsibility and defeats Eon, saving the world.
Verdict[]
Yes for defeating Eon and saving the world, but being extremely immature, egotistical, and lethal.
