Inconsistently Admirable Wiki

Decided to do this after Omega1065's recommendation and the approval of The Player from OFF on the IH side.

As far as I know, if they don't represent a specific person, they aren't considered real people.

What's the Work?[]

OneShot is an indie puzzle-adventure game developed by Future Cat and published by Degica. The game is known for its unique fourth-wall-breaking mechanics and emotional storytelling. It follows Niko, a child tasked with restoring light to a dying world by returning the Sun to the Tower.

Who are they and What have they done?[]

The Player or God is the overarching protagonist of OneShot who guides and controls Niko to save the world throughout the game.

During Niko's journey to return the sun to the tower, they and Niko helped many residents of the world that was about to be destroyed by the instability of the World Machine.

The player, via the author's instructions in their PC, successfully brought Niko to the top of the tower. Here, the World Machine revealed that they had to choose between saving the world or bringing Niko home.

Both choices could lead to the next chapter Solstice, when the Player found the author's next instructions on how to save both Niko and the world in the PC and restarted the game. In this chapter, the Player and Niko found and solved the root cause of the destruction, the World Machine, thus successfully restoring the world and bringing Niko home.

What Makes Them Admirable?[]

They play the most important role in saving the world (two times) because they are the one who find the author's instructions and restart the game, opening up another opportunity and successfully saving both Niko and the world.

They are also the one responsible for most of Niko's admirable actions because they controlled Niko's every move.

What Makes Them Inconsistent?[]

  • Like another "The Player" from OFF, they are insufficiently characterized since they only exist to guide Niko and their multiple choices when interacting with Niko make them inconsistent.
  • They can take Niko home and leave the world to be destroyed, killing countless people (fridge horror) in the Return Home choice. Because every ending is canon in OneShot, this choice is too amoral to go further.

Verdict?[]

You decide.
