SPOILER WARNING!!

What's in the work?[]
Block Tales is a multiplayer turn-based rpg inspired by Paper Mario 64 and Earthbound. That's pretty much all you need to know about context.
Who is the Character?[]
Captain Trotter is a supporting character of the player, he is the captain of a pirate crew and the caretaker of Calypso. When the player meets him, he is selfless and helpful and assists the player throughout getting the Firebrand, a sword. However, once he finds that his crew has perished while exploring the temple, he slowly descends into madness and abandons his plans, wanting to kill the player and steals the sword from them. Calypso fights along side with the player to defeat the captain. However the captain falls into lava and becomes a sacrifice for the Ancients and his soul sits inside the Firebrand.
What makes him Admirable?[]
- Unlike the other pirates, who wanted to kill the player once the player spotted them. The Captain welcomed the player instead and wanted to help the player get the sword while he and the pirates find their treasure.
- Had taken Calypso as a caretaker when Calypso got lost in a adventure and becomes the first crew member of Trotter. He cares for Calypso very much before his corruption, as he gave her clothing and warmth.
- He is selfless before his corruption, he genuinely cares for his other pirates too. He isn't that strict on them too, letting the pirates hang around the temple.
- The captain is also very respectful and kind to the player, showing no corrupting qualities at first.
- The captain also sends Calypso to help the player, he genuinely wants to help.
- When the captain is sacrificed, it is played in remorse and sympathy as a corrupting influence made him became evil and before he was evil, he was a heroic person. He would have been worth NPG if he wasn't a fallen hero.
- Although he turned fallen, it was because he was controlled by a corrupting influence, which caused him to become evil.
- Along with the control of the corrupting influence, it was the because his whole pirate crew died in the process of the temple exploration which sped up his corruption, which makes him a sympathetic villain.
- Most of his heroism is on-screen.
What makes him Inconsistent?[]
- He is a fallen hero and therefore can't be NPG or PG.
- He starts acting irrationally to the player, blaming them putting him and the crew in the situation they are in.
- When he is defeated, he starts losing all his sanity and begins to attack the player once more, he is only stopped by Calypso who pushes him to the lava.
- Although he did sacrifice himself for the player's sword, it was indirect and accidental as Calypso was the one who pushed him to the lava and therefore the captain was sacrificed.
- When the captain blames everything on the player, even without the player, the captain would probably still have turned corrupted since he was already gonna go to the temple anyway with his crew and probably his crew would have died while trying to find it.
- He also relies on some off-screen heroism, as him saving Calypso is off-screen.
Admirable Standards:[]
Block Tales has low admirable standards, as most characters are either hostile, wanting to fight the player or neutral, just talking to the player. There are a lot more hostile and neutral characters compared to heroic ones. But from time to time, heroic characters come to support the player, but it's not that often. Which is why Captain Trotter fits the admirable standards, I'd say he helped the player significantly more than the other heroic characters.
Verdict:[]
It's a yes because Captain Trotter passes the admirable standards, willing to help the player along with him having no corrupting qualities which exceptionally passes compared to the other heroic characters in Block Tales. But he is inconsistent because he goes into villainy and acts irrational towards the player once the Captain is corrupted.
