Welp, it's time, I guess he was always bound to be proposed here someday, and after Mastermind and Sinsmas I think he absolutely qualifies, so here we go.
What's the Work?[]
Helluva Boss is a dark comedy animated show created by Vivienne Medrano (or VivziePop) in 2019. The episodes can be found on YouTube and follow the adventures of the I.M.Ps (Immediate Murder Professionals), a group of hitmen that kill anyone on Earth that the sinners in Hell want them to. It is one of the two shows of VivziePop's Hellaverse, the other one being Hazbin Hotel.
Who's the Character?[]
Blitzo is the overall main protagonist of Helluva Boss, the leader of the I.M.Ps, a highly ambitious imp with a questionable sense of humour, a wild sex drive, and the wish to make a name for himself with his killing business in order to prove that even imps like himself are able to be succesful, despite imps being treated as essentially lower-class citizens in Hell, being at the very bottom of the hierarchy (alongside hellhounds). He is voiced by YouTuber/comedian Brandon Rogers.
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Despite being a borderline sadistic hitman, Blitzo has several people he genuinely cares about, such as:
- Moxxie and Millie, his two main employees, who he has a very close friendship with (especially Millie);
- His adoptive daughter Loona, who he would do anything to protect;
- His boyfriend Stolas (which also extends to his daughter Octavia);
- His childhood friend Fizzarolli.
- In "Loo Loo Land" he agrees to be Stolas' personal bodyguard (albeit begrundingly) so he can safely walk in Loo Loo Land alongside his daughter, and kills several thugs that try to mug him;
- In "Harvest Moon Festival" he, alongside Moxxie and Millie stop Striker's attack, thus preventing him from killing Stolas.
- He helps Millie save Moxxie from his father Crimson in "Exes and Oohs";
- In "Oops" after being captured by Crimson and Striker alongside Fizzarolli, Blitzo was able to let them both escape from the situation, while also saving Fizz from a wildfire in the process;
- In the same episode he also displays some disgust towards Striker's supremacist views, which shows that he has some standards against that;
- He kills Arick Burnz, an obsessive stalker that constantly harasses Fizzarolli in "Mammon's Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special";
- He agrees to help Stolas to find Octavia after she went missing on Earth in "Seeing Stars";
- In "The Apology Tour" Blitzo goes on his way to apologize to all of his exes for hurting them, and while a lot of his apologies aren't really genuine, he does feel some genuine remorse in regards to some of them, to the point he has developed several self-loathing issues;
- In "Ghostf*ckers" he teams up with Millie to defeat Rolando;
- His greatest action however happens in "Mastermind" where after the I.M.Ps were unfairly taken to a trial (that was being broadcasted to all of Hell) for Treason Against the Royalty, Blitzo was willing to sacrifice himself and take the death penalty to not only protect his employees, but to also stand-up against Hell's classist system that oppresses imps. And while said sacrifice ended up not happening, it's only because of Stolas intervening in the last second, as Blitzo was more than willing to go ahead with it, and was devastated by the thought of Stolas dying in his place instead;
- After the events of "Mastermind", Blitzo agrees to let Stolas live in his house, as gratitude for saving him and his team knowing that he had lost everything after that act;
- In "Sinsmas" he refuses to kill a gay couple that were enjoying Christmas with their daughters, saying that the job "isn't worth it". This is notable as it's the only time in the series Blitzo outright refuses to kill someone;
- In the same episode as the point above, Blitzo ends up risking his life to save Stolas after he was attacked by Andrealphus.
Admirable Standards?[]
Well, for a dark comedy series, the Hellaverse has a shockingly high admirable standard (especially on the Hazbin Hotel side), with several characters potentially standing-out such as:
- Charlie Morningstar: The protagonist of Hazbin Hotel, who opens the titular hotel with the goal of redeeming sinner demons so they can ascend to Heaven, and leads the defense against Adam's extermination;
- Lucifer Morningstar: Charlie's father, and the overall ruler of Hell, who directly defeats Adam during his invasion;
- Alastor: Who comes up with the plan to protect Hell from Adam's invasion;
- Carmilla Carmine: Who teaches the Hotel crew how to hurt Angels, and deals them the weapons to protect themselves;
- Sir Pentious: Who sacrifices himself to protect the Hotel (albeit it's played for laughs) and becomes the first sinner demon to ascend to Heaven;
- Stolas: Who throws away everything (including his powers and wealth) to prevent Blitzo from sacrificing himself in "Mastermind", thus preventing any deaths from happening in the trial.
I'll just start by saying that Blitzo can't really be compared to any (except maybe Stolas since resources don't play a big factor here), as all of them are way higher than him in Hell's hierarchy, and thus all have much more resources, Charlie and Lucifer are both the literal rulers of Hell, Alastor and Carmilla are both overlords (who all have a big influence in Hell, especially in terms of the industries there), and Sir Pentious, who while much lower in the hierarchy than all of them, is still a sinner demon, which are considerably higher than imps and thus have much more power.
What really allows Blitzo to stand-out in the Hellaverse standards though is his attempted sacrifice to both protect the I.M.P employees and stand-up against Hell's classist hierarchical system, and even if said sacrifice ended up not happening due to Stolas' interference, it still had a huge impact as he was hailed as a hero by the imps of Hell for standing-up for them.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Despite his heroic actions, Blitzo is still a hitman, and has one of the highest kill counts of the entire Hellaverse. And while he does put some genuine effort to improve himself and become a better person, he never truly redeems himself and doesn't show any intention of stopping with the killing business, meaning his kill count is likely to get even higher;
- He is far too perverted, being willing to have sex with pretty much anyone at any place, and is also obsessed with making sex jokes (to the point he actually nicknamed his two most powerful guns as "My Dick" and "Pussy Destroyer");
- He doesn't really care about comitting crimes in general, and in "Sinsmas" after he had no money to pay for his shopping he just outright steals them.
Veredict?[]
I won't lie, I think Blitzo is a very easy yes, I always felt like he would end up here at some point, and much like Alastor the chances of him going above IA are very low.
