What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- His role as antagonist in the "Agent of Shinigami" and "Thousand Years Blood Wars" arcs are the reason why he can't be qualified as Near Pure Good. Despite his noble intentions, as an antagonist, he still a threat:
- He was introduced as an antagonist, challenging Ichigo to hunting a Hollow by using a Hollow Bait to show that he is better than him. And since he's a Quincy, he can destroy Hollow instead of purifying them which could endanger the balance of the world if he kills too many Hollows.
- In the "Thousand Years Blood Warc" arc, he effectively becomes an anti-villain. After learning about Yhwach and Wandenreich, he decide to join them for sake to avenge his mother death. Despite his motivation and ultimately help Ichigo to kill Yhwach, he actively join their quest to invaded Soul Palace, including stopping Team Ichigo intention to reach Yhwach, who ready to absorb Soul King. Leading Soul King (along with Mimihagi and Ukitake) is killed and endanger the balance of the world.
- While we know his real motive to join Wandenreich is for revenge, thanks to the modification in anime adaptation, Uryu fell into Adaptational Villainy in anime adaptation of "Thousand Years Blood Wars" arc. The modification in anime make his betrayal feel genuine since he has no problem to fighting against Shinigami, killing one of Royal Guard and allow Yhwach to absorb Soul King. Both the manga and anime adaptations clearly show that he knows what exactly Yhwach do and no one in Wandenreich, not even Yhwach or Haschwalth (although the latter gave him a warning to not betray their side in the manga) forcing or manipulating him to do their dirty action.
- In Anime adaptation, He has fight against Ichigo in Soul Palace and Renji in Warhwelt. Although Uryu know both Ichigo and Renji relucantly attack him, with Uryu clearly is not happy to fight and give Ichigo and Renji a fatal blow, he still choose to do this with no hestitation or worry if his attack potentially killing his friend. Even Uryu possibly do this to prevent them get killed or faced more brutal fight from other Schuztaffel, his action can consider as cruel and unwise.
- Although he's against torturing or killing his opponents, Uryū will still choose lethal methods to finish his battles if necessary. While they all survived, this still resulted in them suffering really grusome injuries. Examples of this include his fights with Mayuri Kurotsuchi, Szayellaporro Granz, Senjumaru Shutara, Ichigo Kurosaki and Renji Abarai.
- Although he is cordial toward women and has no problem to saved the minor antagonist like Loly and Menoly, he still has no problem on fighting the female opponent and give them a fatal injuries at them. He did spare Curruci's live but still leave her alone and ended being executed by Exequias. In TYBW arc, while he trapped Shutara in her own Bankai and kills her with single shoot of his arrow, CFYOW light-novel confirmed that Shutara and other Zero Squad members are in proceed of regeneration in their base.
- While no longer being antagonist, Uryū remains with his antiheroism. He believe that Quincy is better than Shinigami and their enemies should fear with them, while he has no problem to help Team Ichigo to protect the innocents and believe in camaraderie.
Trivia[]

- While Sasuke did kill several Samurai during chased Danzo at his sanity slippage and had intention to kill five kages as part of his revolution, he never kills any important characters on-screen despite almost killing Naruto and Sakura. Uryu, however, while subverting the corrupting element, is succeed kills 2 important character like Senjumaru Shutara and a main antagonist Yhwach. (He directly kills the former while the latter actually killed by Ichigo although Uryu still responsible to nullified Yhwach for temporary thus allow Ichigo able to kills him for good).
