You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
~ The Man with No Name to Tuco - one of the most famous quotes in all of cinema.

The Man with No Name, also known as the Good is the main protagonist of Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy, also known as The Man with No Name Trilogy.

He is a rogue outlaw, who goes by several names and attempts to get large amounts of money. Despite this, he does have humanity and is honorable as well as principled. As time has gone by, he has helped the good side and done some good deeds, although always a lethal anti-hero at heart.

He was played by the legendary actor Clint Eastwood.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Unlike most of the mercenaries within the trilogy, Blondie carries good traits such as protectiveness and honor, and is even referred as "Good" in the third film.
  • He kills Angel Eyes, a dangerous criminal, in a duel.
  • Despite Tuco being a selfish coward and the two has hurt each other, Blondie eventually spares his life in the duel where he kills Angel Eyes (an even more dangerous criminal), and shares the confederate gold with him.
  • He works with Colonel Douglas Mortimer to take down El Indio and avenge Mortimer's sister.
  • Frees Marisol, a woman who is kidnapped by Ramon Rojo and forced to live with him, from the captivity and reunites her with her family, also giving them the money he got from both families to urge her and her family to leave the town.
  • When he is caught and brutally tortured by Rojos to make him speak for Marisol's whereabouts, he refuses to speak and endures himself.
  • Upon hearing from the coffin-maker Piripero that Silvanito is captured, tortured about to be hanged by the Rojos to make him speak for information on this whereabouts, he comes back to the town and kills the whole family in a duel, including Ramon Rojo, and saves Silvanito in the process.
  • While his action of playing the Rojo and Baxter families against each other is primarily for money, it ultimately causes the liberation of the town from the bloody feud of the two smuggler families.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is a greedy mercenary, since his prime concern is money, and while he does share it with Tuco, he never subverts his greed.
  • He's also an notorious dishonest trickster. He usually does business with criminals such as Tuco to con towns out of the criminal's bounties, then he cons the criminals themselves out of their share of the money when he gets the opportunity to do so.
  • He has a twisted sense of humor, once suggesting to Tuco that his aim gets worse if his pay is cut and when rescuing Tuco from being hanged, he shoots the hats off of a few unarmed people just for his satisfaction.
  • He often commits questionable acts, such as killing some bounty hunters who did nothing bad to him when starting his con scheme with Tuco (although he killed them in self defense since they had their guns drawn first), leaving Tuco to die in the desert after no longer needing him (in Blondie's case Tuco was angry rating about he almost could of died and accused him of betraying him even though Blondie could of left Tuco to hang), or taking away bullets from Tuco's gun before their duel with Angel Eyes - a even more dangerous criminal and a bad person, not to mention Angel Eyes now could easily kill Tuco if he knew of it.
  • He is also extremely lethal, even if it is in self defense. While his victims are mostly horrible people, who are difficult to sympathize with viewers, this still makes him a clear anti-hero. Not to mention he, despite being called "The Good", has a bigger kill count than Angel and Tuco combined, and people, and the ones who possibly have at least the same kill count as him are Ramon Rojo and El Indio, who are both Pure Evil.

Trivia[]

  • The Man With No Name would serve as the inspiration for Jotaro Kujo, another Inconsistently Admirable character.
