~ The Jackal to the player character. |
The Jackal is the main antagonist of the 2008 video game Far Cry 2. He is a weapons dealer operating within the Unnamed African Country, selling weapons to both the UFLL and APR during a civil war.
He was voiced by Dwayne Hill.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- His ultimate goal with prolonging the civil war in the UAC, and later destroying both factions in it, was to prevent both sides from massacring the refugees in the country, a fear that is validated by the end of the game.
- He agreed to do an interview with Reuben Oluwagembi, a Nigerian journalist who was covering the war.
- While he advised performing rather horrific acts in combat to demoralize one’s enemies during the interview, he also warned against losing one’s self into the display, lest they become a monster themselves.
- When the player character was betrayed by one of the factions, he rescued them, and tended to their wounds.
- When the player character later tried to retrieve a briefcase of diamonds, he took the diamonds to stop the peace deal and put a knife towards their throat, but ultimately chose to spare them.
- Later, he begin working with the player character to kill the surviving lieutenants of both factions and to retrieve some diamonds from a crash landing site.
- After that, he ordered them to either bribe border guards with the diamonds to let the refugees escape, or detonate a car battery to prevent the soldiers from pursuing the refugees. Whichever one the player chooses, the Jackal does the other, and regardless, the job presumably ends with his death, sacrificing his life so that two million refugees could escape to safety.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- The Jackal is a wanted criminal, being wanted by the United Nations for breaking several arms laws and avoiding the authorities. It’s this reason that the player character was initially sent to kill him.
- He can be jerkish sometimes, such as mocking the player character at the beginning for their malaria illness and being effectively “fired” for failing their mission, and asking Reuben during their interview why he, or anyone, should care about his home.
- Despite wanting to protect the refugees, he’s willing to commit rather extreme actions to achieve this goal, including, but not limited to, murder, bribery, blackmailing, and theft.
