The Team Rocket Trio known individually as Jessie, James and Meowth are the main antagonists of the first 25 seasons of the Pokémon anime. They are a crew of low level thugs from the notorious Team Rocket, serving under Giovanni and being obssesed with stealing Ash's Pikachu, following him through his entire journey from Kanto to Galar, and still on his tracks as the show ends. Despite their villainous role, they've grown to show a level of care for Ash and have helped him to prevent multiple world ending disasters.

Jessie was voiced by Megumi Hayashibara and temporarily by Akiko Hiramatsu. In the English dubbed version, she was originally voiced by the late Rachael Lillis and is currently voiced by Michele Knotz. James was voiced by Shin'ichirō Miki in the Japanese version and by Ted Lewis, Eric Stuart, and the late James Carter Cathcart. Meowth was voiced by Inuko Inuyama in the Japanese version, and in the English version, he was originally voiced by Nathan Price, then by the late Maddie Blaustein, then by the late James Carter Cathcart.

Their Good Rankings[]

What Makes Them Admirable?[]

  • In general, they have sense of honor especially when doing non-villainous deeds.
  • Whenever it's needed, they are willing to put aside their differences with Ash and his companions and work together, doing so to escape the sinking S.S. Anne and the Giant Pokémon Island, and have helped take down Butch and Cassidy on many occasions.
  • They do care for each other and their Pokémon, often working with the heroes to take down greater evils and refusing to harm any pokémon in a serious manner. After their arrival in Hoenn, they released Arbok and Weezing so they could look after a pack of Ekans and Koffing they freed from a poacher, using themselves as shields against a Tyranitar so they can escape.
  • They helped Ash free all the Legendary Birds and saved his life using their Speed Boat to transport him.
  • When it's necessary, they even turn against Team Rocket itself, such as in Mewtwo Returns where they sabotaged Domino's plans.
  • They have standards against Paul for the way he mistreated his Pokémon to point they actively supports Ash's Chimchar (and its evloved forms) thoughout Ash's journey in the Sinnoh region.
  • They played a part in stopping Team Galactic and Cyrus' plans to destroy the universe. Ironically, they managed to gain Giovanni's respect.
  • They played a key role in saving Giovanni when he was brainwashed, stopping him from destroying all of Unova as their Team stands not for destruction, but for conquest.
  • They were among the many people who assisted Ash and his Greninja in stopping Lysandre and Team Flare.
  • After being left out of Team Rocket, they joined Ash and Goh to take down several members of the organization.

What Makes Them Inconsistent?[]

  • They are villains through and through, while being On & Off, they're ultimate goal is still to capture Pikachu, taking every chance they can and even when teaming up with Ash, as soon as the danger is resolved, they instantly go back to their regular schemes to capture not just Pikachu, but any Pokémon they deem powerful or rare.
  • Even when helping Ash, they almost always due so for self-serving or pragmatic reasons and never fully redeem themselves.
  • They are huge jerks to each other, breaking apart multiple times through the series and are always rude and cruel to anyone they interact with. They are all also incredibly arrogant and prideful, refusing to accept any failure or defeat and always bragging over themselves.

Trivia[]

  • They are so far, the only Inconsistently Admirable to come from the Pokémon anime as well Pokémon franchise as a whole.
  • Their main game counterparts (from Pokémon Yellow and its remakes Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu! and Pokémon Let's Go Eevee!) cannot count as Inconsistently Admirable since they lack heroic deeds despite having comedic moments.
