Taro Kagami is the main protagonist of the non-canonical pilot chapter of the manga series Death Note. He is a 13-year-old student who obtained the titular death note by the Shinigami Ryuk, which he initially used on his bullies. However, after the events that occour to him, he decides to make sure no one uses the Death Note again.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Despite the fact that they bullied him, Taro was still traumatized and regretful over accidentaly killing five of his classmates, and imediatly took the chance to revive them after Ryuk showed him the Death Eraser. He would then throw the Death Note away so it wouldn't be used again.
- He stopped Miura from using the Death Note to kill Naro and himself, while also using the Death eraser to bring back to life everyone Miura killed.
- To prove to the detectives of the existence of the Death Note, Taro had Miura write his name in the Death Note, putting his life at risk by doing so.
- His actions lead to Yamanaka burning the Death Note to avoid it being used by someone else. It also allowed Miura to not be punished for his use of the Death Note and not suffer from bullying anymore.
- Due to the pilot taking place in an alternate universe, Taro doesn't have to compete with characters like L Lawliet, Soichiro Yagami, and Near.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- After being revived by Miura, it's heavily implied that Miura got interested in death, to the point of sugesting killing a death row inmate while smiling. Seven years later, he sadistically asks Ryuk if he would like to know about what he put in a Death Note pop quiz, giving major implications that he would use the Death Note for thrills if he could. This shows that Taro became corrupted by the Death Note's influence, making him too corrupted to be Pure Good or Near Pure Good.
Trivia[]
- Out of all the Inconsistently Admirables from the Death Note manga, Taro is the only one to come from the pilot and not from the main series.
