Dr. Takuto Maruki is a major character and final boss of the 2019 Atlus action-adventure video game, Persona 5 Royal. He originally served as a major supporting of the first and second semesters, before he later takes over as the main antagonist of the third semester.

He is voiced by Satoshi Hino in the Japanese version and the late Billy Kametz in the English version.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Saved his fiancée Rumi from her PTSD of her parents' deaths using his powers.
  • Creating a new reality where no one suffers, which even saves people with any kind of PTSD or trauma (as seen with Sumire Yoshizawa and Futaba Sakura) and also redeems people who were criminals (such as Ichiryusai Madarame or Kunikazu Okumura). Unlike most extremist villains, Maruki is genuinely altruistic and holds no secret ulterior motive, he just wants people to be happy.
  • At the end of the game, when the other Phantom Thieves are being chased by the police, Maruki offers the protagonist a lift in his taxi.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • His most admirable acts are done while he was a villain (albeit as an extremist and anti-villain) and it is unclear how much remorse he has for his villainous acts as we don't see him much after his defeat and redemption. We do hear from Shibusawa that he apologized to him, but we don't see him apologizing to the Phantom Thieves, the main people he hurt.
  • In one of the bad endings, he essentially gave the protagonist a fate worse than death by taking away all of his energy and free will, and making all of his friends forget about him, making not even Lavenza, a resident of the Velvet Room, able to reach him.
