NOTE: The following page only includes Miller's appearances in the Metro video game canon, which has been approved as IA, as his book counterpart is not approved. Thereby, only Miller's info and actions from the Metro video game canon should be included.

Sviatoslav Konstantinovich Mel'nikov, also known as Miller, is the secondary protagonist of the Metro game series. He serves as the overarching protagonist in Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, one of the two secondary protagonists alongside Anna in Metro Exodus, as well as a minor character in Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels and a posthumous character in Metro Exodus: Sam's Story.

Miller is a former Spetsnaz soldier, who later becomes the leader of the Spartan Rangers, a peacekeeping organisation, within Polis station. In Exodus, Miller defects with the Hanza, before leading his own Spartan Rangers in their escape to Moscow, after uncovering the organisation's deceit.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

Metro 2033[]

  • Miller helped Artyom, being the only person to be convinced by Artyom's request, on his endeavour to locate D6, which would be pivotal to the destruction of the Dark Ones' lair within Botanical Gardens.

Metro Last Light[]

  • He led the Spartan Rangers in a counteroffensive to stop Korbut's Red Line Army from advancing further to D6, in their attempts to retrieve the remaining samples of the bioweapon for Korbut.

Metro Exodus[]

  • After Artyom and Anna uncovered Hanza's treachery he would soon lead his own Rangers to escape Moscow, as they are falsely branded as traitors, before beginning their journey across the east.
  • He led the journey to the East up to Lake Baikal, before he would soon sacrifice himself in Novosibirsk by giving his radioprotector to Artyom to save him from lethal radiation poisoning.
  • During Artyom's dream sequences, Miller would soon regret his actions, which included him being too focused on his leadership job that ended up with him causing more problems then solving them, as well as what led to Anna falling into a weapons bunker that led to her catching a lung disease. There, he would soon give the title of the Spartan Ranger's commander to Artyom, thereby making his son-in-law the new leader of the organisation before finally disappearing from Artyom's dream.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • After the Battle for D6, a shell-shocked Miller still refuses to accept his crippled state, instead still insisting on training aspiring Rangers despite the Pyrrhic victory the Rangers dealt with.
  • While most of the conspiracy running amok in the Metro is perpetrated by Hanza and later the Invisible Watchers, Miller goes along with it and refuses to divulge information as to why the Hanza indiscriminately execute anyone who pass by on Moscow until Anna and Artyom uncovered his involvement in the prologue chapter of Metro Exodus. While understandable due to the Watchers' "you talk, you die" policies, Miller's refusal to reveal his connections to Hanza's atrocities indirectly caused Artyom to almost die from the radiation above the surface of Moscow and his Rangers escaping Moscow from Hanza.
  • In the same reasons as above, Miller blames Artyom for Hanza's attack of the Aurora, despite the fact Miller was directly the cause of this whole mess in the first place.
  • Miller is a grey-zoned character, as shown in Metro Exodus, when he leads the Spartan Rangers in his efforts to hijack a civilian boat convoy with force in Volga.
  • Miller has shown to have big corrupting factors that are too severe for NPG, which included his arrogance and lack of foresight in his plans, which was what led to the Aurora Crew being almost eaten by the Cannibals and their leader The Doctor in the unfinished bunker in Yamantau.
  • While Miller regretted his past mistake that led to Anna catching a lung disease, as well as him being remorseful over the consequences it brought from his leadership work, Miller never subverted one of the actions that he did in Volga.
