It's Star-Lord, man.
~ Star-Lord correcting Rhomann Dey on his name, his most famous quote.
Flash Gordon? By the way, that's a compliment. Don't forget, I'm half-human. So that 50% of me that's stupid, that's 100% of you
~ Peter Quill to Tony Stark.
I look around at us, you know what I see? Losers. I mean like, folks who have lost stuff. And we have, man, we have, all of us. Our homes, our families, normal lives. And usually life takes more than it gives, but not today. Today it's giving us something. It's giving us a chance.
~ Star-Lord motivating the Guardians to fight against Ronan

Peter Jason Quill, also known as Star Lord, is a major character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The half-human child of Meredith Quill and the Celestial being, Ego, Peter was abducted from Earth by Yondu Udonta after his mother died, under his father's orders. Instead of delivering Quill to Ego, however, Yondu raised Quill on his own, and he became a part of Yondu's crew, the Ravagers. After betraying Yondu by keeping a strange Orb he stole for himself, Peter met Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax. After making a plan to escape prison, they eventually became genuine friends, and formed the heroic group, known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.

He is portrayed by Chris Pratt as an adult and by Wyatt Oleff as a child.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • Despite starting off as an anti-hero, with most of his heroic deeds being done for profit, he's saved the universe on multiple occasions for no cost whatsoever. Additionally in the third film, he is solely dedicated to saving Rocket's life even when the chances of him surviving are low.
  • Although he used to be more perverted and accordingly had a revolting sense of humor (especially when he said the Milano should look more like a Jackson Pollock painting), he shows none of this during Ego's Expansion and beyond, meaning he subverted these two highly corruptive traits.
  • Although he has killed various enemies that he has encountered, he usually does it whenever it's necessary. Furthermore, he has been shown to be the least likely to kill compared to his teammates and tends to discourage them from doing so in certain situations (to the point of hypocritically citing Rocket has no friends).

Background[]

  • When he was a kid, he tried to teach Yondu and Kraglin about Christmas.

Guardians of the Galaxy[]

  • Despite being a jerkish anti-hero, he was one of the nicest guardians before their redemption, alongside Groot, and truly valued friendship.
  • He stopped Drax from killing Gamora, despite her being his enemy and not having any reason to do so, convincing him to spare her to kill Ronan later.
  • He helped in Rocket's plan to flee from the Kyln.
  • When Rocket told him to get a man's robotic leg, he talked with him about it and bought it, instead of taking it.
  • He went back to the Kyln to get his mother's Walkman.
  • He stopped Drax and Rocket when they were fighting and almost killing themselves in a bar, calling them out on it.
  • He helped Rocket go through Ronan's fleet.
  • He put his mask on Gamora, allowing her to breathe in space, sacrificing himself to save her (though he didn't die because of his Celestial blood).
  • He convinced the Guardians and the Ravagers to fight Ronan and save Xandar, and created a battle plan to do it.
  • He distracted Ronan so Drax could destroy his hammer.
  • He grabbed the Power Stone before Ronan could and before it could hit Xandar, saving the planet in the process despite knowing it was likely to kill him, and, after the other Guardians touched him so he wouldn't disintegrate, used its powers to kill Ronan.
  • He accepted Dey's action of pardoning the Guardians' crimes, and used their new ship to do heroic things.
  • He didn't give Yondu the Orb, as it was too dangerous.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2[]

  • He saved the Sovereign's planet from the Abilisk, preventing it from eating their power batteries.
  • He didn't intend to steal the Sovereign's batteries, and called out Rocket when he found out.
  • Despite being initially amazed by his father's plans, he was in a brainwashed state, and recovered his conscience when Ego mentioned how he killed Peter's mother.
    • Though he attacks Ego by blasting him severally after this, his reaction was completely justified as he just found out that he just killed his mother.
  • He made up with Yondu.
    • While he initially tried to make fun of him by calling him Mary Poppins, he instead played it off as a compliment due to Yondu not knowing the character when he genuinely asked if "he" was cool.
  • He fought his father and eventually defeated him, even sacrificing his immortality and powers doing this.
  • When Yondu put a protection suit on him so he'd survive in space, Quill desperately tried to get it off and put it on Yondu to save him, though he failed as it was attached to his body.
  • When Rocket was indirectly questioning if he was worthy of love, Peter tells him he is.

Avengers: Infinity War[]

  • He went to the place where the Asgardians sent the help signal to see what was happening.
  • He assured Gamora he was only joking, and they weren't gonna take the ship of the Asgardians if they didn't pay them.
  • He saved Thor from space.
  • He went to Knowhere, in an attempt to defeat Thanos.
  • He tried to kill Gamora after Thanos caught her, and despite she being his girlfriend, she told him that she had something Thanos needed, and she not only agreed but asked him to kill her if Thanos caught her, and he was also extremely reluctant.
  • He fought the Avengers Spider-Man, Iron Man and Doctor Strange as he thought they were with Thanos and knew where Gamora was.
  • He created a plan to fight Thanos, and helped the Avengers fight him.

Avengers: Endgame[]

  • Once he was revived, he fought Thanos's army in the final battle.
  • He tried to talk to Gamora, thinking she was the one he had met.
  • He kneeled in respect after Tony’s sacrifice and attended his funeral.
  • He let Thor integrate into the Guardians of the Galaxy.
  • He planned on finding the time-traveled version of Gamora after she disappeared.

Thor: Love and Thunder[]

  • He helped Thor lose weight, getting him back in shape.
  • He along with his team saved the people of Indigarr from the Booksans.
  • When Thor decided to leave the Guardians after receiving a distress call from Sif, he accepted Thor's decision, giving him advice for his residual depression, and they parted on good terms.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special[]

  • He called out Mantis and Drax for kidnapping and brainwashing Kevin Bacon, telling Mantis to stop brainwashing him, tried calming the celebrity when he was scared and confused, and told Kraglin to bring him back home, but later Kevin decided to stay at Knowhere to help the Guardians realize the true meaning of Christmas.
  • When Mantis told him that she is Ego's daughter, thereby making her his half-sister, he told her that was the greatest Christmas gift he could get and hugged her, showing he doesn't see her as a reminder of their father's actions like she thought he would.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3[]

  • He fought Adam when he attacked the Guardians on Knowhere.
  • When Rocket was dying, he and his teammates took him to Orgoscope to find the component needed to fix him.
  • Upon meeting Gamora, despite knowing she's an alternate version of his dead girlfriend, he still tried to patch up their relationship. However, he eventually learns to move on and allows Gamora to rejoin the Ravagers at the end.
  • He convinced Gamora to help them save Rocket.
  • He saved Rocket's life by installing the component and administering CPR.
  • He and the Guardians defeated the High Evolutionary and saved the children and lab animals he had imprisoned, bringing them to live on Knowhere.
    • He also saved some of the High Evolutionary's henchmen despite what they did.
  • He almost sacrificed himself by making sure everyone else got off the High Evolutionary's exploding ship first and nearly suffocated in space, although he was saved by Adam.
  • He gave Rocket his blessing to be the new leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy before he parted ways with the Guardians and returned to Earth to reunite with his grandfather, whom he had not seen since the Ravagers kidnapped him as a child.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is far too consistent about being a snarky and disrespectful jerk who insults people very often.
  • He is also very wrathful, most notably when he ruined his own plan against Thanos by hitting his face while Mantis was trying to subdue so the others could get his gauntlet off after learning he killed Gamora. Made worse is that he could have hit Thanos as much as he pleased if Spider-Man removed the gauntlet before instead of after, as Iron Man indeed did. Additionally, his way of killing Theel by dragging his body across the ground after jumping from a great height was very brutal, though it's at least somewhat justified considering what he and the other scientists did to Rocket and that he and Groot needed a way to cushion the impact during their escape from the High Evolutionary.

Trivia[]

  • His What If...? counterparts from Season 1 do not qualify as Inconsistently Admirable because the Ravager T'Challa counterpart was just a normal citizen although T'Challa took on the mantle he was supposed to have and lacked any corrupting qualities and his Age Of Ultron counterpart's heroism is done off-screen. However, Peter Quill from the Celestial Invader timeline qualifies as Pure Good
  • Star-Lord, Yondu Udonta and Kraglin Obfonteri are the only characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be Inconsistently Admirable.
