Chizome Akaguro, better known as the Hero Killer: Stain and formerly Stendhal, is a major antagonist in the My Hero Academia franchise, serving as the titular main antagonist of the Vs. Hero Killer Arc as well as the Stendhal Arc.
He is a highly skilled and dangerous serial killer with a strong belief in his personal philosophy, which revolves around purging "fake" heroes—those who become heroes for fame or profit rather than true altruism. His Quirk, called Bloodcurdle, allows him to paralyze anyone whose blood he ingests. This makes him a formidable opponent, as he can disable heroes or anyone he faces by simply drawing blood from them and licking it.
He is voiced by Gou Inoue in Japanese and by Robert McCollum in English.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He started out as the vigilante Stendhal who hunted down criminals and villains across the city.
- He saved Koichi from a villain named Akira.
- When he tried to kill Soga, Mayuru and Rapt after using trigger, this was justified since the three tried to kill Koichi and they almost rape/assaulted Popstar in the spinoff BNHA Vigilates and was the right thing to do.
- He was willing to spare Knuckleduster due to seeing him as a real hero.
- Despite his actions, he truly was trying to change society for the better with his killings.
- It's confirmed by Kurogiri that in the cities where he struck, crime actually dropped and heroes became more effective.
- He saved Midoriya from the winged Nomu.
- He slit the throat of an inmate that was planning to kill multiple women once he escaped.
- He found information from Tartarus that contained information on Shigaraki's body and gave it to All Might. Because of this, All Might was able to realize Shigaraki's body would be completed in just a few days and request for help in the nick of time, which lead to Shigaraki fighting Star and Stripe and being mentally wounded by her in their fight, which Midoriya was able to use to win in the final war. Without Stain's help, Shigaraki would've ambushed the heroes in Japan and killed them off.
- He managed to freeze All For One and distract him by jumping in to save All Might, which prolonged their fight long enough for the later to be saved by Bakugo, using his final moments to cheer on his idol before he's killed by All For One, redeeming himself.
- He showed remorse to Tenya for planning to kill him despite Tenya having vengeance in his eyes.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is not only an extremely lethal serial killer who kills so-called "fake heroes", he is also a hypocrite for harming and killing innocent heroes who haven't done anything wrong (instead of chasing REAL fake heroes like Endeavor, Katsuki Bakugou, Mineta, Capitan Celebrity, etc). He targets all heroes indiscriminately. If one of his victims turns out to be genuine, like Ingenium, it doesn't matter to him (for unknown reasons) until after the deed is done.
- Despite having the chance to kill Shigaraki, Stain chose to spare him—not out of any sense of justice or respect for his ideals, but purely out of curiosity. He wanted to see what kind of villain Shigaraki would eventually become, making Stain and hypocrite and indirectly responsible for the deaths caused by Tomura Shigaraki.
- While he did show remorse to Tenya (and also redeemed himself by sacrifing himself to be killed by All For One to save All Might, in which All Might was extremely sad about Stain's death), he never shows remorse for any of his other crimes.
