~ SpongeBob's most famous quote. |
“ | SpongeBob: I guess you're right, Plankton. I am just a kid. Plankton: Of course I'm right. Okay, Neptune, time to kill-. SpongeBob: And you know, I've been through a lot in the past six days, five minutes, twenty-seven and a half seconds. And if I've learned anything during that time, It's that you are who you are. Plankton: That's right. Okay, Neptune... SpongeBob: And no amount of mermaid magic... or managerial promotion... or some other third thing... can make me anything more than what I really am inside: A kid. Plankton: That's great. Now, get back against the wall. SpongeBob: But that's okay! Plankton: What? What's going on? SpongeBob: Because I did what everyone said a kid couldn't do. I made it to Shell City, and I beat the Cyclops, and I rode the Hasselhoff, and I brought the crown back! Plankton: All right, we get the point... SpongeBob: So, yeah, I'm a kid. And I'm also a goofball. And a wing nut. And a Knucklehead McSpazatron! Plankton: What's going on here? SpongeBob: But most of all, I'm... Plankton: Okay, settle down. SpongeBob: I'm... Plankton: Take it easy. SpongeBob: I'm...! Plankton: What the scallop?! SpongeBob: I'M A GOOFY GOOBER! |

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- While he doesn’t hurt people intentionally (without good reason), he is still very reckless, careless and irresponsible when endangering other people’s lives and well-being in his adventures, being responsible for mass property damage and manslaughter. This incompetence is a minor prevention, as SpongeBob has sometimes been shown to do things perfectly without trying.
- While he is naïve, there are times where it doesn't properly justify him doing immoral actions like when he willingly assisted Mr. Krabs with stealing an entire hotel room just so the latter could win the Cheapskate of the Year Award, when he willingly assisted Mr. Krabs in poisoning a health inspector who was only doing his job, and when he was successfully convinced by Plankton to ruin the Goo Lagoon Residents' Day (though he does show remorse for the last two).
- While he's generally very responsible and honorable; he's not above lying, stealing, and tricking people to get his way or to boost/save his reputation as seen in episodes "Just One Bite", "Blackened Sponge", "Chocolate With Nuts", "MuscleBob BuffPants", "No Weenies Allowed", "Pranks A Lot", "Bubble Buddy" and "The Secret Box".
- He is an Notorious and Constant prankster. While most of his pranks are harmless, some pranks are extreme or able to get out of control as seen in "Scaredy Pants", "Pranks A Lot", "Opposite Day", "Frankendoodle", and "Survival of The Idiots".
- In “Pressure”, he mocks Sandy Cheeks for being a land creature alongside Krabs, Patrick and Squidward. When she takes off her air helmet and begins to drown, he breathes in and out alongside Krabs in order to mock her even further, and even calls her an airhead after she’s forced to wear a pickle jar.
- There are times where he can act like a jerk, as shown in "Graveyard Shift" where, thinking he and Squidward are about to be killed by the Hash-Slinging Slasher, confesses to Squidward that he has used the former's clarinet to unclog his toilet (although it was likely more of a comic moment to tone down the episode's overall creepy atmosphere) and in "Porous Pockets," where he lets his sudden wealth, status and popularity go to his head and becomes an arrogant snob who even cast Patrick (who was then his best friend) aside in favor of his countless superficial "friends", who actually just came close to SpongeBob out of financial interest rather than out of a genuine desire for friendship.
- He has a slight sense of greed, always wanting to be the best employee of the month at the Krusty Krab, despite Squidward not caring about it.
- He is wrathful, as shown when he strangled Mr. Krabs for refusing to hire Squidward back (although Mr. Krabs arguably deserved it for accusing Squidward of doing something he didn't do, and it was also understandable since Squidward was driving him insane by constantly taking advantage of his hospitality), got angry at Patrick for supposedly breaking his new toy and furiously yelling at Squidward when he was pogo dancing with Patrick.
- He was willing to trip Sandy while they were running from an Alaskan Bull Worm, which would have gotten her eaten by it if she didn't admit she was wrong on its size, just so he could have the satisfaction of her admitting that he was right. This didn't help by SpongeBob's insistence to do nothing regarding such threat.
- He's also a control freak, as shown when he demanded his party to go exactly the way he planned it and got mad at the other guests despite the other guests enjoying the party.
- In recent episodes, he starts blaming people for his own personal problems that have nothing to do with anyone.
- He is quite mischievous (in a bad way) as he and Patrick keep bothering Squidward for no reason, notably barging into his home uninvited, practically making them both the reason why Squidward is always grouchy and miserable.
- He is very willing to get others harmed for trivial reasons. Some examples include him assisting Mr. Krabs on several occasions in endangering the health of the customers, attacking other characters in fits of rage at times, and killing a bunch of sentient clams over a Krabby Patty.
- He and Patrick are responsible for Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble being villains by time traveling back when they were babies and revealing their future to them. Otherwise, Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble would be even superheroes if it weren't for them.
- He can be a hypocrite from time to time such as in the episode One Coarse Meal when Plankton asked him to step on him in a way of suicide which SpongeBob rejected claiming that it flies in the face of his good nature, yet he has done some immoral actions prior to this episode and would still do time to time in the future, gets mad at others for being annoying and clingy to others as he does yet he annoys Squidward a lot of the time, and threw a prison guard in a cell for throwing away an unfinished Krabby Patty, which is not even a misdemeanor, when he once nearly threw away a fresh batch that Squidward made out of arrogant belief that he was the better fry cook in Fresh Breath of Squidward.
- Lastly, his biggest prevention from NPG is being on & off, since he committed heinous acts several times such as in the comic "CreamBob ConePants", where he and Patrick ate an innocent population alive that resided in Pint Bottom and in the episode "The String", where his actions of finding the titular string caused Bikini Bottom and all of reality to break apart.
Trivia[]
- He was the very first Inconsistently Admirable ever proposed.
- Like many other characters on this wiki, he was originally Pure Good for a while. However, when the admirable standards changed so that heroes who are too jerkish and mischievous can't qualify (though the Pure Good Criteria has changed over the years, saying that mischievous heroes can qualify as Pure Good if their mischief is harmless and doesn't go too far or cause serious trouble for innocents), he was removed due to these inconsistencies explained below.
- Ironically, there's also currently a Pure Good version of him, as well.
- He is the current icon of Inconsistently Admirable Wiki, as well as the icon of the Cleanup Template.
- If the series ended after the first movie as planned, his flanderization in season 6B to season 7 never happened, or somehow, he were to be heroic to the point of most of his inconsistencies being redeemed in newer seasons or even his upcoming movies, SpongeBob wouldn't be Inconsistently Admirable in the first place due to having far fewer corrupting factors, thus it would have made him originally qualified as Near Pure Good if that were the case.
