NO! I've been traveling out in space for forty years-- eating and killing, devouring everything in sight... only to learn I'd be coming back here, to Earth... a place where I can't hide what I once was-- can't forget it, the evidence is right here-- all around us. We were heroes. And we return to find living people here! With families! We can't do this again! We just can't! I won't let you!
~ Spider-Man stopping Giant-Man.
Despite my best efforts... and good intentions... I've failed. Not only are all my loved ones dead... but the tablet is gone! The exhibit hall was broken into while I was too busy trying to prove to myself what a "hero" I was... What a joke! A "hero!" Me? With this face? Face it, Parker-- you will never be human again! Never! There's nothing but the hunger-- and unlife-- forever and ever... and ever and ever and ever! What use is this face? This useless, rotting face! No one is left to love or mourn Peter Parker-- so-- I never... nggk... want to look at him... again... Whatever I do now, wherever I go, it won't be as a hero-- or even as a man-- but as a monster! EEYYYUUUGGHH!! Why don't things seem to turn out right for me? Why do I seem to hurt people, now matter how I try not to? Is this the price I must always pay for being... Zombie Spider-Man?!
~ Spider-Man, at the end of the first issue of Marvel Zombies Return.

Peter Benjamin Parker, better known as Spider-Man or Zombie Spider, is the main protagonist of the entire 2005-2009 Marvel Zombies comic book metaseries. He was one of many to be infected with the zombie virus and from there was transformed into a sadistic flesh-eater along with the other former heroes and villains. However, unlike most of his peers, who came to more or less accept their fate, Spider-Man rejects his new identity as he was remorseful and self-loathing over the atrocities he'd been a part of, not the least of which was eating his own wife and aunt.

He appears as a minor antagonist of Ultimate Fantastic Four #22, one of the secondary antagonists of Marvel Zombies: Dead Days one-shot, a supporting character turned minor antagonist in Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness, one of the main protagonists of the Marvel Zombies and Marvel Zombies 2 limited series, the main protagonist of the Marvel Zombies Return limited series and one of the main antagonists of Black Panther 2005 comic series issues #24-30.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He rescued a woman in the initial throes of the outbreak.
  • He faked infection to save Ash from the zombified Avengers.
  • He tried to get Mary Jane and Aunt May to safety, telling the latter to hide as he succumbed to the Hunger Virus.
  • He felt remorse for feeding on hundreds of innocent people to the point that he refused to take his mask off so that he wouldn't have to look at himself in the mirror again.
  • He was horrified when Giant-Man proposed making a breeding camp from the surviving humans after having overcome his hunger, helping them defend New Wakanda from the other zombies alongside Luke Cage.
  • While he killed the zombie Gladiator and Bruce Banner, it was necessary to prevent them from eating the survivors and in the case of the latter, prevent the Hulk from resurfacing at his request.
  • He helped rebuild New Wakanda in the aftermath of the zombies' attack.
  • He tried to fight Earth-Z's Sinister Six non-lethally, being distraught when his hunger resurfaced and led to most of the villains becoming zombies and going on to infect that reality's Mary Jane, Gwen Stacy, and Harry Osborn.
  • He saved Kitty Pryde from his world's zombie Wolverine, trusting her with a wooden stake and the knowledge to kill him in case he succumbs to his hunger.
  • He created a vaccine for the virus from the blood of Earth-Z's Wolverine.
  • He formed the New Avengers with Earth-Z's Hulk, Iron Man, and Wolverine to stop Giant-Man and the other zombies.
  • He eradicated the plague on Earth-Z with the aid of a nanite-infused Sandman, content to die knowing that his wife and aunt were avenged.
  • After fully overcoming his hunger, he attained full moral agency and chose to eradicate himself and the other zombies with the nanite infused Sandman in the name of the greater good.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • While he wasn't fully responsible for his actions because of his hunger, he still devoured millions of innocents and committed mass genocide alongside his fellow zombies.
  • He demonstrated sadistic enjoyment while devouring J. Jonah Jameson and coldly dismissed his villains upon their deaths, making him a heroic jerk.
  • Even when not under the influence of the Hunger Virus, he was still extremely lethal by virtue of killing other zombies.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only version of Spider-Man to be Inconsistently Admirable (if not counting Earth-98311 Spider-Man), as well as the only Marvel Zombies hero to be Inconsistently Admirable.
