“ | I'm top on B-Squad in test scores, weaponry and in fighting. As you know, sir, my father was the Red Ranger. Ever since I was a little kid, I've trained for the day I'd become like my dad - the next Red Ranger. | „ |
~ Sky explains why he should be a Red Ranger. |
Schuyler "Sky" Tate is one of the two protagonists of Power Rangers S.P.D. (along with Jack Landors).
He's an SPD cadet that wished to become the Red Ranger to honor his deceased father, but his arrogance and jerkish attitude land him on the position of the S.P.D. Blue Ranger instead, becoming Jack's second-in-command. At the end of the series he's officially made the S.P.D. Red Ranger after improving himself. Years later, Sky becomes the new S.P.D. Commander on Earth.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Following the death of his father, Sky decided to join Space Patrol Delta to become a Red Ranger as way to honor him.
- Despite being jealous of Jack for being the Red Ranger instead of him, he rightfully called him out when he tried to abuse his status as leader of the team and was impressed after seeing him run an obstacle course early in the morning.
- Sky had a genuine friendship with his fellow cadet Dru Harrington and felt betrayed when he returned and used him to assasinate Commander Cruger.
- Nevertheless, Sky still arrested him for his crimes and apologized for bringing him into the academy without proper regulation.
- As the second-in-command of the SPD Rangers, Sky played a major role in keeping the Earth safe from various threats, including Emperor Gruumm, who wanted to invade the planet with his Troobian Empire.
- When Cruger remembered his failure at the battle of Sirius, Sky tried to prevent him from blaming himself by explaining that the battle was a trap.
- After R.I.C. was able to help the Rangers identify Sky after he switched bodies with the villain Wootox, he started to play catch with the robotic canine.
- Sky and his fellow Rangers remained loyal to Cruger even after he was temporarily relieved of duty by Commander Fowler Birdie.
- He and the rest of his team went to rescue Sam, the Omega Ranger, even after he told the other Rangers to stay out of his way.
- While interrogating Mirloc, Sky not only agreed to make a deal with the locked criminal in exchange for information to help his team, but actually followed through on said deal even when it involved sharing his saddest memory.
- After Jack allowed him to briefly morph into the Red Ranger to arrest Mirloc, who was revealed to be his father's murderer, Sky gave Jack back his morpher and realized that he was proud to be the Blue Ranger.
- After him and Jack failed to move a meteor's course towards Earth, Sky tried to prevent Jack from sacrificing himself to stop it.
- When him and the rest of his team got insomnia, Sky blamed himself for being the reason that the team isn't always on the same page.
- When half of his team traveled back in time in order to stop Emperor Gruumm from conquering Earth in the past, Sky convinced Cruger to send the rest of the team to help the other Rangers.
- Over time, Sky came to not only respect Jack, but consider him a close friend, even admitting that Jack did a good job as Red Ranger.
- He and his team rescued the A-Squad Rangers on Gamma Orion.
- After the A-Squad betrayed SPD and captured Commander Cruger, Sky and the rest of B-Squad went to confront them despite knowing it was a trap, and later successfully arrested them for their crimes.
- Thanked Piggy for rescuing him despite being the reason he was captured in the first place.
- Sky and his team ultimately saved the galaxy from Gruumm and the giant biomechanical body known as Omni.
- When he believed that Cruger sacrificed himself to stop Omni, Sky expressed sadness and later joy after finding out that he survived.
- During his tenure as a Ranger, Sky learned to respect and care for his teammate, earning his new position as Red Ranger following Jack's departure and later a new position as the S.P.D. Commander.
- Donates some old clothes to the charity Jack and Ally set up.
- Helps the Mega Rangers against the Armada during the Legendary Battle.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Sky had many prejudices.
- He would sometimes refer to some aliens as monsters.
- Sky considered the cyborg cadet Sophie to be a danger to S.P.D. and while he did had reasons to believe it, he decided to expel her from the academy without informing his Commander first.
- During a conversenation, Sky didn't refer to Sophie as "her" but as "it".
- He was too much of a jerk throughout the entirety of the series.
- Sky initially put down both Syd and Bridge when Cruger suggested them for the Red Ranger position.
- He was very dismissive of Z when Cruger made her join the Ranger team, seeing her as just a criminal.
- Even after she joined the team, Sky still called Z, and the rest of his team, a "freak of nature" due to the genetic powers they were born with.
- Sky constantly argued with Jack after he was made the Red Ranger during their first missions, believing that said position belonged to him.
- Sky was a bit sexist, as he said that Syd couldn't be a Red Ranger for being "a girl" and was surprised when he found out that the A-Squad Red Ranger was a woman.
- While Sky eventually changes most of these diminishing qualities, this is only at the very end of the show, with his only appearances after that being relegated to cameos, which means it's not enough for him to be Near Pure Good.
- During Soul of the Dragon, Sky sent Tommy Oliver's son on an undercover mission, keeping his current whereabouts a secret from his family and everyone else, he even continued to lie to Tommy when confronted about this issue.
