~ Seto flaunting his Dueling skills to Joey. |
Seto Kaiba or just commonly referred to as Kaiba, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Joey Wheeler) in Yu-Gi-Oh! original series and both of its adaptations. He has a younger brother named Mokuba, whom he shows compassion for, and is the CEO of Kaibacorp. He aims to become the world's greatest player of Duel Monsters. To accomplish this goal of becoming the strongest duelist, he must defeat his arch-rival, Yugi Muto.
He is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in the Japanese version and Eric Stuart in the English version.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
Anime/Manga[]
- While he isn’t exactly close with Yugi, he at least respects him a lot as a duelist and shows honor towards him. He’s also been supportive of him at times and even complimented him.
- He had a tragic past of being abused by his stepdad which resulted in him becoming crueler and colder growing up, and he only wanted what was best for him and his brother. He would even refuse to get adopted if it meant Mokuba couldn’t come with him. Hence, he is played for sympathy many times.
- He genuinely loves and cares a lot about his little brother Mokuba as he promised to always be there for him and protect him and even did everything he could to save him when he was imprisoned by Maximillion Pegasus, challenging him to a duel to win back his soul (with his soul being at stake too) and ends up hugging Mokuba when he sees him again afterwards.
- Not only does he care about his little brother Mokuba, but he has a soft spot for children in general, particularly orphans. That’s why he opened up a fun amusement park where all children can play and be happy.
- He teamed up with Yugi and helped him defeat two Rare Hunters in a duel to get them out of the way so Yugi can locate his friends in time and save them.
- He has saved Yugi and his friends multiple times, such as the time when he saved Teá’s life from the Rare Hunters by throwing his Blue Eyes White Dragon card (despite how much he loves that card) to stop them.
- After take over KaibaCorp, he turn it from military arm manufacturer to gaming industry instead. Which is why he destroy Alcatraz after the end of Battle City tournament.
- In anime version of Memory Worl arc, he helps Yugi and his friends defeat Zorc.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Even after redeeming himself, he has far too many jerkish moments even now which is too big of a prevention for him being Near Pure Good, still displaying a sarcastic and rude personality, such as constantly picking on Joey for not being his level of a duelist or gladly humiliating his rival Zigfried and doesn’t show regret in how he treated him.
- He ripped Solomon’s rare and treasured Blue-Eyes White Dragon card and never apologized for it since.
- His reason was that in a dueling deck, only three copies of one card are allowed. There were only four copies of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards in the world and he already had three of them in his possession, so he destroyed the fourth, to prevent it from being used against him.
- He can be a big sore loser at times, such as when he blew up Alcatraz Island without warning because he was angry, and petty.
- He didn't care that his adoptive father Gozaburo committed suicide, although Gozaburo deserved it due to how abusive and evil he was. Plus, given his abusive nature towards Seto especially by overworking him, his uncaring nature towards his step-father's death was justifiable.
- He mostly does acts for his own benefits, like when he only stopped Dartz from destroying the world just so he can get his Kaibacorp back when the latter stole his company.
