NOTE: This page is about the mainstream counterpart of Scrooge McDuck, and NOT his DuckTales 2017 version, thus only info on the original appears here. For info on his DuckTales 2017 counterpart, click here.

Scrooge McDuck is a significant character in the Mickey Mouse canon and the main protagonist of the spinoff show, DuckTales along with the Uncle Scrooge comics.

He is a wealthy businessman and the uncle of Donald Duck along with his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Primarily, he's acclaimed for being the richest Duck in the world and scorned for being an extremely arrogant cheapskate.

He was voiced by the late Alan Young.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • Prevented Magica from taking over the world by defeating Count Dracula Duck and then reclaiming his Number One Dime.
  • He has shown to be very caring towards his family, as he offers them safety within his home and saves them from dangerous threats.
  • He's very willing to learn from his mistakes. Despite being neglectful to Webby just because she presented an extremely vulnerable demeanor (which in itself caused a couple of major problems, especially when she turned into a 50-foot giant), being flat-out unkind to Bubba just for being primitive, and even being speciesist to the genie for absolutely no reason, he realizes just how out of line he is and strives to do better, acknowledging Webby is tough and sweet, Bubba is an excellent addition to the family, and the genie deserves a life of his own just as much as Scrooge himself does.
  • Even though he is constantly shown to be aggravated with Launchpad and Gizmo-Duck, he still considers them to be dear friends of his and strives to be patient with their absent-minded antics, and always commends them when they are successful.
  • He is highly appreciative of his employees and pays them very well.
  • He always ensures to earn his fortune through good, honest work and has a strict code of honor to never cheat, steal from, or scam others.

DuckTales (1987)[]

  • In the original DuckTales, he thwarted many dangerous threats, such as the wicked witch Magica De Spell who aspires to conquer the world using his Number One Dime. He also stopped the Beagle Boys on a number of occasions.
  • He repeatedly thwarted the plans of his morally bankrupt rival Flintheart Glomgold and was constantly shown to be the bigger man.
  • Had a brief stint as the "Masked Mallard" just to prove to everyone that he is nice and wants what's best for them in spite of his flaws.
  • Saved the entire world from being turned to gold by the Golden Goose.
  • Prevented the extremely destructive and sadistic Merlock the Magician from amassing phenomenal power by keeping the genies' lamp away from him.
  • Wished for the genie to be a real boy, allowing him to live a normal and happy life with Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby.

Christmas Specials[]

  • He offers Huey, Dewey and Louie life advice. When they think being selfish will make them richer and happier, he explains that he once harbored the same sentiments and that it only brought unhappiness to himself and others.

DuckTales Remastered[]

  • Rescued Huey, Dewey and Louie each time the Beagle Boys (or the third time, Magica) took them hostage.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is way too jerkish for NPG, being a greedy cheapskate and often being petty with Ducksworth and taking shots at Launchpad and Gizmo-Duck for their mundane intelligence and, albeit much less often, at Mrs. Beakley for being plump. Despite caring deeply for his family, his jerkishness still compels him to try to cut corners, such as getting Mrs. Beakley a Halloween card and a two-week-old cake for her birthday for instance, and is often reluctant to help out the public despite genuinely valuing the common man.
  • He has gone crazy with greed on a few occasions, such as in the first arc of the original DuckTales where his greed placed his family and friends in grave danger. Although they are proven to work extremely well as a team, there are numerous occasions where Scrooge brings the boys on dangerous trips just to get richer, which is child endangerment.
  • He is shown to be extremely arrogant and egotistical at times. It's a rather prominent part of his personality, so it's too corrupting for NPG.

Trivia[]

  • He, along with Donald Duck are one of two IA members of the Duck Family that aren't from DuckTales 2017. However, Donald's corrupting factors, his temper especially, aren't seen in DuckTales at all. So far, he is the only DuckTales character to be IA, while Emperor Ping the Pitiless is the only one to be IH, going to show just how little they have in common.
