~ Scorpion's most iconic quote
My name is Hanzo Hasashi! You killed my wife! My son! And then you burrowed your way into my head. Misdirected my vengeance. Cost me my one chance to have them restored!
~ Scorpion to Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat X

Hanzo Hasashi, better known as Scorpion is one of the main protagonists of the Mortal Kombat franchise and the mascot of the series. He is an undead ninja resurrected by the sorcerer Quan Chi and served as his right hand for years. However, after meeting Takeda and finding out the truth of his past, he has a change of heart and separates from the sorcerer.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Saves Takeda and Kenshi when they are being pursued by red dragon.
  • Takes in Takeda in the Shrai Ryu and looks after him through his childhood.
  • Saves Takeda and kills Forrest Fox after he massacres his clan.
  • Snaps Raiden out of the kamidogu possession and saves Takeda when he is wounded.
  • Stops a possessed Sub-Zero when he freezes a whole town and thaws out the town with his hellfire.
  • After Havik mortally wounds him, Hanzo allows himself to die rather using his hellfire powers to save himself, knowing that it would reawaken Scorpion if he did so.
  • Kills Havik and ends his reign of evil, and saves Takeda from near death.
  • Gives Havik's head to the Neatherealm, in a way to warn them to stay away from Earthrealm.
  • He reforms the Shrai Ryu after it falls and promotes Takeda as Chujin.
  • He pushes Takeda to forgive his father Kenshi for leaving him.
  • He makes peace with Sub-zero and apologizes to him for killing his brother.
  • Tells Cassie where her parents are when they are taken by Shinnok.
  • Gives sympathy to Sub-Zero after his clan falls.
  • Helps Sub-Zero stop the cyber Lin Kuei.
  • Saves Kharon when D'Vorah attempts to kill him.
  • After being freed of Quan Chi's influence in both timelines, he declares unity and protection to Sub Zero.
  • When his past version comes to the present, he tries to reason with him and help him get over their dead family.
  • When he is stabbed and mortally wounded by D'Vorah, his last words are him giving wisdom to his younger self, which inspires him get over his family's death and fight against Kronika.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He served Quan Chi/Shinnok for half his time in the games, however unlike the Revenants or Bi-Han, he wasn't brainwashed or threatened and served him out of free will, and killed a bunch of people on his behalf.
  • After he killed Bi-Han and Kuai Liang came to avenge him, Scorpion mocked him and attempted to kill him.
  • He has multiple jerkish and Kick-The-Dog moments to his allies, especially to those who interfere with his goals.
  • Even after redemption he is extremely wrathful and violent, brutally killing all of his opponents without any mercy.
  • His Time-Distorted younger self sided with Kronika, carrying out multiple massacres on Kronika's behalf and attacking the Outworld/Earthrealm united resistance out of pure vengeance and false promises until he saw the error of his ways by his older self's apparent demise.
  • He initially refused to make peace with Sub-zero and attacked Frost as well. To be fair, the peace treaty was going well, until Frost attacked Scorpion out of hatred for his clan.
  • He killed Quan Chi out of rage and vengeance (although he deserved it for murdering his wife and son and for exterminating the Shirai Ryu), even when he was made aware numerous times that doing so would doom the revenants to eternal servitude to Shinnok and later the Netherrealm, some of which were his former friends. He even attacked his friends and had them tied up so they wouldn't stop him.
  • He is indirectly responsible for releasing Shinnok, as his attack on the Special Forces base rendered the heroes weakened, and Quan Chi freed from his imprisonment. So when D'vorah arrived, she only had to overpower Hanzo and give Quan Chi Shinnok's amulet.
