  • Five years later when Dean died on one last hunt, Sam comforted him as he was dying, gave him a hunter's funeral, and raised a family before dying and ascending to heaven.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Although Sam is more patient and less abrasive than Dean, he's still a clear cut anti-hero. He's brutal towards monsters, he doesn't hesitate to kill demons even though they're possessing innocent people: while he did try to save people more in season 11 instead of killing a possessed vessel, he quickly fell back into killing.
  • Shares Dean's habit of keeping secrets from him, which leads to the brothers developing trust issues with each other.
  • Kills Jake in cold blood despite his pleas for mercy.
  • Was willing to go along with Ruby's plan to mass exorcise demons that were going to lay siege to the police station that he, Dean and several others were trapped in, which required the heart of a virgin. He showed no signs of remorse for this, and while him and Dean were able to stop the Demons, Lilith herself ended up killing everyone in the station and torturing them once the brothers had escaped, rendering their disregard of the initial plan moot and causing even more death.
  • He was willing to murder a little girl in order to stop Lilith.
  • During the first few seasons, Sam willingly took demon blood, even though Dean repeatedly warned him that doing so would take away pieces of his humanity. Even though he made it a point to stop taking it in season 5, he did relapse during said season, proving he isn't incorruptible.
  • Tortures Alastair for information.
  • He and Ruby kill a fully conscious woman who is the vessel for a demon so he can drink her blood and stop Lillith. While he initially showed hesitation in doing so, he brushed it off later.
  • Although Dean was much worse during season 10, Sam crossed quite a few lines of his own. Such as agreeing to kill Crowley after Rowena removed The Mark of Cain, even though Crowley was their ally at the time.
    • When searching for Dean after he became a demon (though Sam initially thought he was possessed), caused a man to sell his soul to a crossroads demon so he could capture and torture the demon. While Sam didn't want the man to actually sell his soul, only summon the demon, he didn't react quick enough to stop him and later seemed to brush it off, though he was initially horrified when he learnt that Demon Dean had killed the man. Sam also mentioned he'd pissed off other hunters during this time, and had crossed some lines.
  • He didn't look for Dean after he was banished to Purgatory at the end of season 7. Instead selfishly choosing to pursue a relationship with a woman he barely knew. While he didn't know where Dean went, he just as easily could've sought out a few leads or at the very least done some research on the ritual they performed. He also neglected to look for Kevin Tran, even though he had a target on his back due to demons pursuing him.
  • Although Sam lacks Dean's abrasiveness, he's also the more vengeful of the brothers. After failing to save Dean from hell, he instead opted to kill Lilith and get his revenge. At one point, he even admitted that he is angry at all the time and has no idea why.
  • In Season 14 finale, he tried to kill God with Equalizer, despite knowing that without killing his sister Amara it will cause destruction of the whole world.
