Salim Malik is the main antagonist of Slumdog Millionaire.

He is the older brother of Jamal, who unlike the former, is anything but pure, with him becoming a gang member and has shown to be incredibly selfish from childhood all the way to adolescence before redeeming himself and sacrificing his life to kill Javed and allowed Latika to leave, releasing from future sexual violations.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Saved Jamal from being blinded and taken advantage of by Maman.
  • Killed Maman, thus ending his entire disgusting operation of sex trafficking and purposefully blinding people for money.
  • Released Latika from the grips of Javed post redemption.
  • Sacrificed himself to kill Javed.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • For a majority of the film, he was a selfish, greedy scumbag who seemed to show very little care for his own brother, and even ended up kicking him out of their living space so that he could have Latika all to himself.
  • Willingly left Latika behind to be used by Maman and showed sadism in doing so.
  • Was implied to have sexually assaulted Latika after he kicked Jamal out.
  • Became part of Javed's gang and kidnapped women such as Latika, and judging by the scar on the side of her face, sexually violated her.
  • Although he does feel remorse for these actions and ultimately redeems himself. His redemption does very little to nullify or mitigate his vile actions.
