I'm just a guy who's a hero for fun. I do not lose. And the surface... is guarded by me!

Saitama is the titular main protagonist of the manga and anime series, One Punch Man. After training himself so hard that he eliminated his physical limitations, Saitama has become the most powerful person in his universe.

He is voiced in Japanese by Makoto Furukawa, who also voices Ares in the Warriors Orochi series and by Max Mittleman in the English dub.

His Good Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • Despite claiming that his emotions have considerably dulled over the course of his power progression, nullifying feelings like happiness or possibly even empathy, his drive for heroism is still strong, as evidenced by his constant continuing of his heroic activities. This implies that although his motivation for heroism has filled, he still takes his duties quite seriously.
  • Although his desire to search for a strong opponent could be seen as selfish, it isn’t the sole motivation for his continued heroism, which would instead be as a hobby. Additionally, this desire of his as considerable waned as the story progressed, as Saitama instead began to focus on maintaining his status amongst his peers at the Hero Association.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • When encountering Crablante, a crustacean-like mysterious being, and learning of his intention to kill a young boy for drawing nipples on his chest with a marker, he decides to save the boy despite being outmatched by Crablante, risking his life to save the young child. This heroic act would serve as the catalyst for the creation of the Hero Association, since the young boy's grandfather, Agoni, was inspired by this story and created the Hero Association in response.
  • During his three years of training, he would defeat several mysterious beings such as Personification of a Light Cord and 170,000-Year-Old Cicada Larva, saving many lives in the process.
  • He saves a young girl from being squashed to death by Vaccine Man and kills the monster before it could cause any more destruction to Z-City.
  • He kills the Subterranean King and preventing him from invading the surface world.
  • He saves Genos from being killed by Mosquito Girl.
  • He kills the members of the House of Evolution such as the Beast King and Carnage Kabuto, preventing them from engaging in any more slaughter. His actions would also inspire Dr. Genus, the head of the House of Evolution, to change his ways and use his knowledge to open up a Takoyaki Shop.
  • He defeats Hammerhead and spares his life.
  • He defeats Kombu Infinity, who'd been going around Z-City and defeated two A-class heroes.
  • He destroys a meteor that was going to land in Z-City, saving the city and all the neighboring cities from complete annihilation.
  • He kills the Deep Sea King and saves the citizens in the shelter. Then, he attempts to make himself seem like a fraud in order for the heroes who'd been defeated trying to fight Deep Sea King look more noble.
  • He defeats Boros, saving the human race from being eradicated by his Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon.
  • Shows some empathy to a dying Boros seeing as both of them were to powerful to gain a thrill from battle, even attempting to downplay his victory over him to make their fight seem less unfair.
  • He saves King from the Giant Crow that attacked him, and upon realizing that King was just a regular person and had stolen the credit for all the monsters Saitama had killed, he holds no grudge for this. Instead, he decided to keep King's secrets to himself, and not tell anyone. He also became one of King's first friends.
  • He saves Fubuki from being hit by Genos' attack, then assists Genos when he's nearly stopped by Sonic during their duel.
  • He visits Mumen Rider in the hospital, even giving him bananas as a treat.
  • He talks a distressed man down from suicide by showing him genuine sympathy.
  • Disguising himself as a police officer after killing a monster in order to boost the public’s opinion of law enforcement, despite knowing the recognition it would have gotten him.
  • During the Super Fight Tournament, he is angered when Suiryu belittles heroes, showing he does not tolerate people who look down on heroes.
  • He saves Sneck and Max from being killed by a monsterized Bakuzan, then saves Suiryu from Bakuzan's wrath.
  • He kills Gouketsu, an executive of the Monster Association.
  • He defeats Orochi, the king of the Monster Association.
  • Steers a sinking ship to safety after it is capsized by Evil Ocean Water.
  • Is ultimately able to change Garou’s heart by deducing to him that the latter actually desired to be a hero rather than a monster, even showing shim empathy towards him despite Garou’s resentment of him.
  • Manages to subdue Tatsumakai’s rampage, rescuing the lives of Psykos and the Blizzard Group in the process, without violence by calming her down.
  • Defeats the Ninja Village Leader.
  • Refuses to kill Handsomely Masked Sweet Mask even after him begging him to after revealing himself to be a monster in disguise. He instead takes him presumably into hiding.
  • He never kills any humans, only monsters, the latter of which is completely morally justified seeing as how they are often completely irredeemable killer's hostile to all humans.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is generally very rude and occasionally abrasive towards his companions if they annoy him, such as him scolding Genos for talking about his overly long backstory and even telling him to shut up when he reminds him why he wanted to be his disciple.
  • He doesn't hold back many of his attacks, resulting in significant collateral damage caused all around him.
  • He is indifferent to a degree regarding the distress of others, often showing nowhere near the amount of concern or anguish other heroes do when someone, human or monster, is injured, in peril, or dying.
    • A running gag of his is him being more concerned with trivial matters, such as bargain sales at his local supermarket, rather than more pressing concerns such as dealing with highly dangerous threats such as the House of Evolution or the obvious war between the Hero Association and the Monster Association. This shows that while he still takes his hero work seriously, he lacks the emotional attachment to it to make him selfless or noble.
  • He can be quick to anger, as he nearly killed Bang during a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
  • He can be very greedy, as he only allowed Genos to live with him when he offered him rent money. It is later revealed that the apartment he lives in isn’t owned by a landlord, indirectly admitting that he has been conning his disciple out of money.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only character in One Punch Man to be Inconsistently Admirable.
