- He passes the goodness zone when he saves Lelouch from execution by the Black Knights even after Lelouch said he hated him and was only using him the whole time. He overuses his Geass to the point that it kills him in order to take down all the Black Knights and Britannians in their way and getting Lelouch to safety. As he does this he explains that even if Lelouch was only using him, to him it was real and made him human, stating that he refuses to believe that Lelouch hated him. Lelouch sadly agrees that he was lying about this and accepts Rolo as his brother as he dies, ultimately forgiving him.
- His sacrifice directly allowed Lelouch to stop Charles' Ragnorak plan and Schneizel's goal of forcing the world into peace via mass murder with the FLEJIA and then bring world peace via Zero Requiem. - In Resurrection, he and Euphemia's (and Shirley's in the manga version) souls in C's world forgive Lelouch and help CC save him to complete his resurrection. Later, they return and help save Lelouch and Nunally after the final battle, which shows a lot to how much he cares about Lelouch to the point where he's now fine with Nunally being with him.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He's been an assassin for V.V. since childhood, killing so many that he viewed it as routine and can't even remember how many he killed.
- He kills several OSI agents, two of them for very petty reasons, even though they don't get much sympathy since they're villains themselves.
- After Lelouch regains her memory of Nunnally, Rolo shows his true colors of a cold and ruthless killer.
- He offers to perform assassinations for Lelouch, even though the latter reprimands him for it.
- He impulsively shoots Shirley dead for wanting to re-unite Lelouch with Nunnally, then lies to Lelouch that Shirley was coming after him with a gun.
- He executes the other Geass children on Lelouch's orders, though he did earlier express reluctance to do this and Lelouch had to pressure him into doing it.
- He murders a Black Knight for learning of his origin with the Geass Order.
- He is extremely possessive over Lelouch to the point it turns into an obsession and wants to keep Nunnally away from him and kill her so he can be Lelouch's only sibling though it's worth noting that when he thinks he's found Nunnally's escape craft, he doesn't immediately fire on it, suggesting that he did feel conflicted about this.
Trivia[]
- Rolo’s ending was originally far different, where the character would’ve died a simple death “like a rag” but this was changed due to his popularity among the female staff of the series. If they went with his original ending, Rolo wouldn’t be Inconsistently Admirable.
- Rolo is far less Inconsistent in the recap movies. He doesn’t kill Shirley, the Geass Order children or anyone except a few Britannia guards holding Kallen captive, although he still did intend to kill Nunally. It’s positive his film counterpart could be Near Pure Good.
- Rolo’s final scene got him voted as the most heroic character in Animedia for 2008.
