For everything that ever was.
~ Rhinox as he flies the Autobot Shuttle into the Nemesis' cockpit.
A spark... When a spark goes online, there is great joy. When one is extinguished, the universe weeps.
~ Rhinox on life and death

Rhinox is one of the two tritagonists (alongside rattrap) of Beast Wars. He is one of few Maximals to fight in the Beast Wars and survive. When he arrives on prehistoric Earth, he takes the beast form of a rhinoceros. He is voiced by Richard Newman.

He loves nature and does not wish to fight, but when threatened, he is prepared and can pack a punch. He is close friends with all of his fellow Maximals. Optimus Primal and Rattrap are his two best friends and he is more of a fatherly/uncle figure to Cheetor and Airazor. Even Dinobot and Megatron respect him. He appears in all 52 episodes of the cartoon series Beast Wars and is one of the few that does not upgrade to a Transmetal, something that later proves to be quite detrimental when he returns to Cybertron.

In the sequel/spinoff series Beast Machines, the surviving Maximals return to Cybertron to find it overrun by mindless drones of Megatron. Due to his lack of a Transmetal form, Rhinox is paralyzed and captured by Megatron and turned into a Vehicon general and given the alternate form of a giant tank. From this moment onward, he is known as Tankor. When Optimus restores his memory, he becomes a rogue and plots to overthrow both Optimus and Megatron. His plans are foiled and he sacrifices himself to save Optimus, and his spark joins the Matrix.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Generally being the team mechanic, he is the one that invents the tools the Maximals use to stop the Predacons' grand schemes of power, as a result, many of the series' admirable actions have his fingers on them as his tools are generally used, and that too, would be responsible for every repair a character undergoes in the series.
  • When the protoform that will later form Airazor was severely damaged and under the threat of becoming blank forever due to the loss of spark, Rhinox uses his skills to desperately save her and ensure his existence, all while saving her from being brainwashed by the Predacons.
  • Risked his own life trying to find Optimus Primal's spark from the Matrix when Megatron ends up killing him in the Season 1 finale, resurrecting him and thus has his thumbs on every admirable action Optimus does from then on as a result.
    • It should even be noted that this was also a final attempt to end up saving the day as during this time, Megatron was close to wiping out the Maximals. As a result, Rhinox ends up saving everyone's lives as a result.
  • Bigger one, he is basically the driving force of stopping Megatron by the end of the series, okay, behind Dinobot II, but still, it was also through him he saved the entirety of Cybertron from being erased from existence by Megatron who was seconds away from destroying the Ark.
  • Even bigger one in the Season 3 opening in which he is the one who performed the surgery on the G1 Optimus Prime after Megatron blasted his brains out, reviving him and saving time itself from being and as a result, to quote Optimus "everything that exists", to which both he and Primal saved the entire universe from a potential omnicide.
  • Is ultimately the one who saved Optimus Primal's spark from death, allowing his old friend a second chance to atone for his misguided actions that he would never get otherwise. Without Rhinox granting Optimus a second chance and be resurrected for the second time, Optimus wouldn't have been able to liberate the sparks and stop Megatron once and for all in his attempt to remake Cybertron to his image.
  • Overall, Rhinox is too key a player on the Maximals' admirable activities to say he fails. His rhinoceros paws are on every admirable deed in the series through the tools he used, in which he personally conducts an operation to avert a possible omnicide, Rhinox passes this with flying colours even if Dinobot keeps easily for IA and Optimus Primal setting the admirable standards as the protagonist.
  • In the Transformers Universe comic, he is revived to help Optimus and other Autobots and Maximals fight in the Universe War.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He becomes a Fallen Hero in Beast Machines as Tankor whose actions are too heinous to be NPG. While he redeems himself, he still never shows remorse for his villainy.

Trivia[]

  • Had Beast Machines not happened, Rhinox would have been Pure Good due to never showing any corrupting qualities before becoming Tankor and standing out as one of the most admirable heroes among the Maximals.
  • His Japanese Generation One Continuity version isn't Inconsistently Admirable as that version ends feeling enough remorse for his actions and ends up doing enough admirable acts in stories set in the Legends Manga taking place after Beast Machines which allow him to make up enough to be Near Pure Good with his only preventions from Pure Good status is being slightly failing to the Beast Wars II & Beast Wars Neo Characters and his temporally time of being a Fallen Hero making him shown to be Prone To Corruption.
    • Not to mention Tankor's crimes fail continuity's absurd high heinous standard too much due to attempted planetary destruction being too much of an common crime to standout to be severely hurting for Near Pure Good status.
    • Had the original Rhinox shown enough remorse for his acts and making up for him like his Japanese counterpart he would've likely also been Near Pure Good as well.
