â | Max, we work private security. We're all ex-soldiers, ex-special forces, ex-cops, ex-good guys. We all have our reasons why we became ex. Maybe now we can put things right, okay? | â |
~ Raul Passos to Max Payne on the TietĂȘ River. |
â | Passos: You know, I... I almost didn't say goodbye to you. I said to myself, "Maybe this guy will put a bullet in me." Max: Heh. Maybe I will. But not right now. Passos: Thank you. [Shakes Max's hand] Try to look after yourself Max, huh? Life is worth living. |

Raul Passos is the deuteragonist of the 2012 video game Max Payne 3. He is a private security guard working for the Branco family, and Max Payne's companion throughout much of the events of the game.
He was voiced by JuliĂĄn Rebolledo.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- When Passos witnessed Tony DeMarco and his friends threatening Max in a dive bar, he pointed his gun and scared them off for a short while.
- He helped Max escape the wrath of Anthony DeMarco and his hitmen after Max killed Tony.
- Before leaving for Latin America, he accompanied Max to the Golgotha Cemetery, and allowed him to pay his respects to his family one final time.
- During the AUPâs attack on a yacht in the Panama Canal, Passos, with some persuasion, helped Max try to find and rescue the remaining crew members, and was dismayed by their deaths.
- He helped Max rescue Rodrigo and Fabiana Branco when the Comando Sombra favela gang attacked a charity event the Brancos were hosting.
- A few days later, he worked with Max and Marcelo, Rodrigoâs youngest brother, to try and rescue Fabiana again when the Comando Sombra struck again at a nightclub. While they failed to rescue her, they did manage to rescue her sister, and Passosâs girlfriend, Giovanna.
- After the incident at the nightclub, Passos and Max worked hard to try and rescue Fabiana, from attempting to bring ransom money to the Comando Sombra at a nearby stadium, to giving chase to their leader, Serrano, via boat on the TietĂȘ River when the CrachĂĄ Preto sabotaged the ransom deal and made off with the money.
- After intially leaving Max behind, he returned and killed the CrachĂĄ Pretoâs leader, Ălvaro Neves, when he was about to execute Max on top of the Imperial Palace Hotel, saving the latterâs life.
- Before leaving SĂŁo Paulo with Giovanna to raise their child, he apologized to Max for misleading him and getting him roped into this mess, an apology that was accepted. He also told Max to take care of himself and that âlife [was] worth living,â words that Max seemingly took to heart by the end of the game.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Passos is too lethal and aggressive, such as when he pressed the barrel of his pistol into the bullet wound of a Comando Sombra member while trying to interrogate him during the stadium shoot-out.
- He can be jerkish or insensitive sometimes. For example, he mocked Maxâs squalid living conditions in both Hoboken and SĂŁo Paulo, and made a sarcastic quip about Max not feeling good on their way to the FĂĄbricas Branco building.
- He was an accomplice in Victor Brancoâs scheme, being secretly paid to hire Max as a scapegoat for Victorâs actions and the chaos in SĂŁo Paulo.
- He lied to Max about his background and of them previously knowing each other, and laundered money with Marcelo to a banker associate of Victorâs during the Panama incident. However, Passos does make it clear that he was pressured into taking part in the conspiracy, was evidently kept in the dark about both Victor wanting his own family dead and the organ harvesting ring, and ultimately apologized to Max for it.
- After Max saved Giovanna from the CrachĂĄ Preto, Passos took her aboard a helicopter and initially left Max for dead, though this was because he found out that she was pregnant with his child, and became concerned for her safety.
