~ Patrick in Patrick SmartPants

Patrick Star is the deuteragonist of the Nickelodeon animated franchise, SpongeBob SquarePants. He is SpongeBob's best friend, neighbor, and sidekick. He is a very foolish, clueless and unintelligent but still friendly and well-meaning starfish that enjoys eating food, going jellyfishing, and playing with his SpongeBob.

He is voiced by Bill Fagerbakke.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • In "Help Wanted", he encouraged SpongeBob to get a job at the Krusty Krab when he started losing confidence.
    • It makes Patrick responsible for some good things done by SpongeBob.
  • In "Hall Monitor", after being caught throwing ice cream on the ground, he assisted SpongeBob in trying to catch the maniac (who was really just SpongeBob himself).
    • He also provided SpongeBob instructions on avoiding the maniac.
  • In "Suds", he tried to cure SpongeBob from having the Suds. Although this is also to some extent a bad thing as he didn’t have the experience to do so.
  • At the end of "Rock Bottom", he returned to try to get SpongeBob back.
  • In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III", he helped redeem Man Ray. His role in doing so was by acting out the scenarios.
    • Even though Man Ray attacked Patrick in a needlessly cruel way, he quickly found it to forgive him with only reasonable anger at first.
  • In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V", for his willingness to help Mermaid Man in stopping E.V.I.L, Patrick is given the super hero role as The Elastic Waistband and was given the ability to stretch his entire body, his limbs and his head, and the ability to inflate his body, limbs and head like a big balloon and he can use his stretchy powers to squish and stretch himself into many shapes and forms. His costume is a green suit with blue and red goggles. Although lack of proper training to master his superpowers proved detrimental in his first and only field mission as The Elastic Waistband, he tries his best nonetheless.
  • In "Shanghaied", he ended the battle over the sock between SpongeBob and the Flying Dutchman. This initially helped the two avoid being eaten, although the Flying Dutchman decided to turn the two and Squidward into fruit later (although they aren’t shown being eaten in the series after this episode so perhaps this was a life-save after all).
  • In "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm", he created the idea to push Bikini Bottom to save it from the Alaskan Bull Worm (which ended up landing on Bikini Bottom anyways, but they couldn’t have predicted that).
  • In "Club SpongeBob", he along with SpongeBob, helped keep themselves and Squidward (so 3 major characters total) alive by listening to the magic conch shell.
  • In "Wet Painters", he tried to hide the spot on the dollar to save his and SpongeBob’s lives.
  • In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V", he stood up against Every Villain Is Lemons.
  • In "I Had an Accident", he along with Sandy, got rid of SpongeBob’s fear of going outside.
  • In "The Camping Episode", he along with SpongeBob, saved Squidward from sea bears.
  • In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, he went with SpongeBob to get back King Neptune’s crown, prove Mr. Krabs innocence to save him from death, and save Bikini Bottom.
    • He got the key to the Patty Wagon at extreme risk to his own safety.
    • He tried, and indirectly succeeded, to prevent SpongeBob from quitting his journey and to help save Neptune’s crown.
    • The previous actions led to the crown being delivered back to King Neptune and Bikini Bottom being saved from mass enslavement.
  • In "The Lost Mattress", he along with SpongeBob, went into the area with the guard worm to retrieve Mr. Krabs’s mattress. This is important as the money within the mattress was necessary to keep Mr. Krabs alive.
  • In "Dunces and Dragons", hept Medieval Sandy alive, thusly assisting heavily in her redemption.
  • In "Patrick SmartPants", while he did become a huge jerk when he became smart, it was a result of his new intelligent head (thusly moral agency issues) and when he does start acting as himself, he manages to become friends with SpongeBob once again and returns to his nicer (but stupid) self.
  • In "Chimps Ahoy", he assisted Sandy Cheeks in building inventions to try to keep her in Bikini Bottom.
  • In "The Pink Purloiner", he gave SpongeBob Ol’ Reliable. Even after SpongeBob accused him of being a thief, Patrick still forgave him when SpongeBob gave him Ol’ Reliable.
  • In "Slimy Dancing", he refused to cheat within the dancing competition.
  • In "Sing a Song of Patrick", he wrote his own song, not caring about what the public says and even got the public to calm down.
  • In "The Donut of Shame", he admitted that he was wrong about stealing SpongeBob’s donut and gave it back to him. Plus, it turned out that he didn’t even steal the donut, it was his all along in the story, even sharing half with his buddy.
  • In "What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?", he along with Mr. Krabs and Sandy (and Squidward for pragmatic reasons), helped bring SpongeBob back to Bikini Bottom.
  • In "Banned in Bikini Bottom", he assisted SpongeBob in selling Krabby Patties despite them being outlawed.
  • In "Suction Cup Symphony", he helped Squidward have a successful symphony.
  • In "Not Normal", he showed SpongeBob how to be not normal again, although it took Squidward showing up for the denormalization to work.
  • In "Porous Pockets", he provided SpongeBob assistance when SpongeBob became rich.
  • In "The Clash of Triton", he frees Neptune and the rest of the family (and Mr. Krabs) from the prison that Triton put them in. This was to help Neptune end Triton’s outrage, and thusly helped end the mass destruction.
  • In "SpongeBob's Last Stand", he along with SpongeBob, passed out flyers to try to stop the construction of the Shelly Superhighway: which means the destruction of Jellyfish Fields.
  • In "Karate Star", he snatched off the corrupt nerves from his own arm just because he couldn’t forgive himself unless he made a drastic adjustment for almost killing his beloved best friend and to save Bikini Bottom. Although the new arm grew into an evil clone since the nerves are implied to have formed their own sentience apart from Patrick’s brain, he is a separate being from Patrick himself and could have likewise changed for the better.
  • In "Enchanted Tiki Dreams", he along with SpongeBob, created a dream vacation for Squidward just to make Squidward happy.
  • In "Frozen Face-Off", he saved Karen when she was frozen.
  • In "Patrick-Man!", he defeated the Dirty Bubble when he became Patrick-Man.
  • In "Safe Deposit Krabs", he along with SpongeBob, saved Mr. Krabs from the bank.
  • In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, he along with the other main characters, defeated Burger-Beard and thusly restored Bikini Bottom back from its post-apocalyptic state.
  • In "What's Eating Patrick?", he restored Bikini Bottom’s honor by defeating Oswald McNulty at the eating competition. He and Oswald even exchange casual greetings with no animosity towards each other.
    • After he was going to quit the eating competition, Mr. Krabs pointed to the boy with the broken foot, which caused Patrick to continue the eating competition not only to win, but also just to give the little boy’s heart a euphoric sense of victory.
  • In "Goodbye, Krabby Patty?", he revealed the truth about Don Grouper’s Krabby Patties being sand.
  • In "Bulletin Board", although his notes insulted other characters on the bulletin board, it was an accident and he ended up making one final note to try to clarify everything.
  • In "Mimic Madness", he assisted multiple other characters in ending SpongeBob’s mimic madness.
    • He also prevented Plankton and Squidward from killing SpongeBob when SpongeBob had mimic madness.
  • In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, he went to Atlantis along with SpongeBob to save Gary.
  • In Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, he helps Sandy, her family, SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs and Squidward return Bikini Bottom back to the ocean.
  • In spite of his misdeeds and flaws, Patrick is as morally centered on his own as SpongeBob, and likewise seeks to better himself at most opportunities.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He acts like a complete jerk way too often, such as when he terrorized a carnival for not getting Valentine's Day gifts during "Valentines Day".
  • Sometimes he engages in bullying behavior. However, this an a fairly minor prevention, as he visibly received cruel mistreatment since childhood, and even for his dim-wittedness on that note.
  • He is wrathful and is prone to get bent out of shape for very poor reasons, such as when he pushed SpongeBob to the ground and gruffly corrected him on calling him “Tubby”, despite them playing off an act. This is also a fairly minor prevention though, as Patrick literally beat up and gave himself a gruesome atomic wedgie for presentation just so his friend could get into a Tough Guy club.
  • He also has countless moments of excessive mischief, such as when he influenced SpongeBob to play hooky when the latter is supposed to be at his workplace. He and SpongeBob also constantly annoy Squidward for no reason, practically making them both the reason why Squidward is always grouchy.
  • When he became a father, he was very lazy in caring for Junior and unloading to SpongeBob all the work in "Rock-A-Bye Bivalve".
  • He never stood up for SpongeBob when Flatts was bullying him and SpongeBob needed his help. He wasn’t aware of the matter directly though, making it a minor misdeed.
  • He is arrogant, as shown when he got his driver's license and mocked SpongeBob for it by literally rubbing it in his face.
  • He destroyed SpongeBob's sandcastle in a fit of rage when he thought that SpongeBob was trying to mess up his castle, when he was actually trying to help him. This resulted in a war between the two best friends.
  • He is on & off as in some episodes when SpongeBob has a problem and he asks Patrick for help, he ends up making things way worse, making him an antagonist of several episodes as a result.
    • It doesn't help that in "The Card" (the same episode that has Patrick making SpongeBob obsess and stress over a card), Patrick is aware of his stupidity and at times takes advantage of it to avoid being responsible, yet his inferior IQ means he fails to see protential harm he causes to others AND his own as much as being too incompetent to be a proper manipulative sociopath he seemed to be.
    • He's especially on & off because he committed genocide on the Hamdonians, and he, along with SpongeBob, once devoured the citizens of Pint Bottom.
  • He and SpongeBob are responsible for Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble being villains by time traveling back when they were babies and revealing their future to them. Otherwise, Man Ray and the Dirty Bubble would be even superheroes if it weren't for them.
  • His constant hunger and eating habits can spiral out of control and can cause problems for his friends and even himself as much as aforementiomed inferior IQ at times. As Seen in "Smoothe Jazz in Bikini Bottom", "The Gift of Gum", "Pat No Pay", "Hooky", "Spongeguard on Duty", "What's Eating Patrick", and "Greasy Buffoons".
  • In a comic book known as "CreamBob ConePants", he and his best friend SpongeBob crossed the Moral Event Horizon for devouring the residents of Pint Bottom as mentioned previously which makes him have a massive kill count on innocent people making him too lethal to be Near Pure Good nor Pure Good.
  • Although well-meaning and kind, he can be extremely inconsiderate and far too sadistic for his own good. Several examples include:
    1. In "I'm With Stupid", when SpongeBob was behaving idiotic, he humiliated him in from of his parents (who actually turned out to be two strangers who thought Patrick was their son).
    2. In "Gone", he participates in the No SpongeBob Day where he literally turns against his best friend.
    3. In "Pat No Pay", he managed to get a free meal from The Krusty Krab, terrorized the restaurant and caused the place to blow up and the money shreds on Krabs.
    4. In "Best Day Ever", he breaks every one of SpongeBob's nets that the latter kept giving him.
    5. In "Rock-A-Bye Bivalve", as discussed earlier, he pretends to be going to work and avoided parental responsibility by making SpongeBob suffer with taking care of the baby when Patrick was watching TV at his own house the whole time.
    6. In "Cephalopod Lodge", he forced Squidward to get a electrocution to the tongue, right after he and Spongebob caused Squidward to get kicked out and banned from his own clan club he got accepted to.
    7. In "Yours, Mine and Mine", he wouldn't share the Patty Pal toy SpongeBob bought and eventually ate it with the statement if he can't have it, no one can. He then uses his wallet to buy another Patty Pal and belittles SpongeBob of not knowing about sharing when he didn't share at all, making him a manipulative hypocrite.
    8. In "Rule of Dumb", he created an amusement park on top of Squidward's house and when Squidward had everyone leave Patrick's ruling, he threw a tantrum and even abused his power when he was a king, becoming a tyrant.
    9. In "Ink Lemonade", he outright torments Squidward purely for greed, scaring him of all forms possible solely to get more squid ink for him to sell as lemonade, as Squidward's ink proved to be a unexpectedly popular drink when he thought that was actual Lemonade.
    10. In "Life of Crime" He persuades Spongebob into "borrowing" a balloon (stealing it) and when the balloon instantly pops, he decides he would rather go on the run rather than admitting his actions to the authorities. He also accuses SpongeBob of eating his candy bar after immediately eating his own and when SpongeBob eats his own bar, he declares to sell him out to the police out of spite.
