“ | In any war, there are calms between the storms. There will be days when we lose faith, days when our allies turn against us. But the day will never come, that we forsake this planet and it's people. | „ |

“ | Knights, Autobots - this cannot and will not be the end. To save Earth and her people, we are going to steal Quintessa's staff. Only you, Viviane, can take it back. I will lead the way into her chamber, and when the account of the ages is etched into the cosmos, let those who exist long after us know that this was our finest hour! | „ |
~ Optimus rallies his allies to fight Quintessa |
Optimus Prime, temporarily known as Nemesis Prime is one of the three main protagonists (alongside Sam Witwicky and Cade Yeager) of the original continuity of the Transformers live-action film series.
Originally a peaceful Cybertronian scientist and the very last Prime of the Dynasty, Optimus and his team of scientists were studying the mysterious Allspark until they were betrayed by their security unit, the Decepticons, and his twin brother, who is now their corrupted power hungry leader, Megatron. Naming his squad of scientists as the Autobots, he used his team to fight the tyrannical Decepticons in order to stop them from getting the AllSpark's awesome power. He is based off his original incarnation with the same name.
He is voiced by Peter Cullen.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- In the first film, he told Sam to put the cube on his chest and was willing to sacrifice himself to ensure Megatron couldn't get his hands on it and wipe out humanity in the process.
- He doesn't allow Ironhide to harm Sam's parents.
- While he doesn't save Bumblebee from Sector Seven, it was only because he did not wish to harm the humans.
- He saw goodness in humanity while Autobots such as Jazz and Ironhide didn't, so he may have considered the possibility of Sam persuading Sector Seven to spare Bumblebee.
- He showed remorse for Megatron's first death, stating that he left him no choice.
- He helped take down the Decepticons in Shanghai.
- He protected Sam in the Forest Fight at the cost of his life.
- After being revived by the Matrix, he foils the Fallen's plans of destroying the Earth by destroying the Star Harvester and putting him down for good.
- He revived Sentinel Prime in hopes of thwarting the Decepticons plans for Earth, and was horrified when it turns out that he was a traitor.
- Leads a successful raid into Kinetic Solutions Industries and nearly succeeds in exacting his revenge, before cleverly picking up that the CEO, Joshua Joyce, was trying to bait him into killing him to gaslight him that he and the Autobots deserved all the suffering they had for 5 years.
- While he did break his code by giving Harold Attinger an ironic yet well-deserved death, it was only to save Cade's life from him making the kill justified.
- He showed remorse for what he did when he was brainwashed by Quintessa as Nemesis Prime.
- He saves Earth from Quintessa.
- He is currently rebuilding Cybertron with the rest of the Autobots without the need of the staff.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He Is too lethal and homicidal. Although some of his kills can be considered justified towards the Fallen, Megatron, and Sentinel Prime, he is bloodthirsty towards other Decepticons and executes them when they are helpless and bested, even hunting down Decepticons that are minding their own business (debatably without harming any humans) and going as far as to threaten to kill two humans.
- Though him cutting off the Fallen’s finger was in self-defense, and the reason for ripping his face off was most likely because of how he brought shame to the other ancient Primes due to his heinous acts.
- Having been aware that the Decepticons would be planning a massive attack and not leave Earth, he allows what the Decepticons would do to both teach humanity's leaders the hard way and also get the element of surprise to take them down, having showcased no on-screen remorse or regret that his inaction led to Chicago's destruction. This makes him too much of an anti-hero to be NPG as he let thousands of innocents die, though the other hand, it BOTH was the human government's immediate capitulation to Sentinel's demands AND Prime's unwillingness to dissuade them out of presumed fear of violating his ideals of freedom of choice that lead to this morally grey decision.
- He (initially) agreed with Cade's initially jerkish behavior towards Shane, implying he was once a control freak towards Bumblebee in the distant past.
- Though Cade’s behaviour merely amounted to him wanting to protect his daughter, the dialogue still implies Optimus may have been overprotective himself.
- Brutally beats Grimlock down for opposing him and then threatens the Dinobots with death if they didn't follow him as leader and join the Autobots, even pointing and rubbing a blade near Grimlock's head to show the threat.
- He isn’t a responsible leader and does nothing to stop his fellow Autobots fighting, even finding some humor in their suffering.
Trivia[]
- He's the only major version of Optimus Prime to be Inconsistently Admirable as most of his incarnations lack corrupting qualities to the point of qualifying as Pure Good.
- His corruptive qualities were mostly limited to every movie after the first. So while his killing of Bonecrusher was quite brutal, it was only to protect a mother and her child, and Bonecrusher was too hate-filled in his last moments to be reasoned with.
