| ~ McGucket fixing his friendship with Stanford. |
Fiddleford Hadron "Old Man" McGucket is a major character in the Disney Channel/Disney XD animated series Gravity Falls.
He is Stanford Pines's old lab partner, who became mentally ill after he wiped out his own memory multiple times to relieve himself of the traumas the work with Ford led him to. Eventually, he becomes a crazy outcast in Gravity Falls, an apparently poor and insane man, until his past gets more explored because of the adventures of Dipper Pines to undercover the town's mysteries.
He was voiced by series creator Alex Hirsch, who also voiced Stanley Pines in the same series.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He helped Ford with his machine, believing it would benefit humanity.
- He warned Ford about Bill's true plans, which prevented Weirdmaggedon for years.
- He created a memory gun to wipe out his traumas and decided to use it in everybody in the town who had traumatic encounters with supernatural forces.
- He created the Society of the Blind Eye to erase bad memories of the strange things people have seen around town.
- He helped Dipper and Mabel undercover the mystery of the Society of Blind Eye.
- He saved Dipper, Mabel, Soos and Wendy from Blind Ivan.
- He took many memory rays for Dipper, as his memory was so damaged the weapon did nothing against him.
- He tried to warn Dipper about Bill's incoming plans in the Northwest manor.
- Unlike most people hiding in Mystery Shack, he was trying to create a plan to escape and fight back, instead of wanting to hide and let the apocalypse happen, like Stanley.
- He created the Shacktron, which was the only thing that allowed the resistance to fight back at Bill, the Henchmaniacs, and distract him to infiltrate his castle and save Ford, thus playing a key factor in Bill's defeat.
- He took down many Eye-bats with the Gobblewonker head while in the Shacktron.
- He forgave Ford for his past mistakes and reconciled his old friendship with him.
- He tried to help defeat Bill by participating in the Zodiac.
- While he had originally moral agency issues from his insanity, he regained his sanity in Season 2, subverting this.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is extremely reckless as some of his inventions, like a homicidal pterodactyl, a giant robot and the Gobblewonker, caused a lot of destruction and nearly killed many people, and in some cases this was his goal all along, which he did not seem to be sorry at all about.
- He tried to eat Soos when he was Waddle's body and tried to eat him even after Soos regained his body and although it was played for laughs, it makes him too lethal to be NPG.
- He also ate his way through a Pterodactyl and laughed crazily from it. Although it could’ve been the moral agency issues, this is still another lethal moment which he has no remorse over.
- He creates a sentient dictation robot in the ARG and threatens it with dismantling after it bemoans its inability to feel love.
Trivia[]
- He and Stanley Pines are the only two Gravity Falls heroes to be Inconsistently Admirable.
- Coincidentally, both are very similar, being old men whose more prominent role in the series and relationship with Ford was only revealed in Season 2, as well as both being voiced by Alex Hirsch.
