“ Come on! You're with us now! „
~ Nod to MK
“ I'm sorry...but not completely sorry. „
~ Nod after MK didn't return to her normal size

Nod is the deuteragonist of the 2013 computer-animated film, Epic.

He is voiced by Josh Hutcherson.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He joined the Leafmen ranks and fought boggans for many years.
  • He refused to align with Bufo's fixed races even though it meant getting beat up by thugs afterwards.
  • Upon being informed of Tara's death, he gives his apologies to Ronin and immediately volunteers to saddle a bird and take them to Nim Galuu.
  • He offered MK to teach her how to ride a bird.
  • After being dropped in a hole with a mouse, he tried to warn MK and get her to leave, knowing the danger they were in.
  • After MK was knocked unconscious, he returned to the hole to save her from the mouse.
  • He tried to get Ronin to relax in Nim's party, believing their mission to be complete.
  • He showed MK the beauty of the forest and took her on a ride in a deer.
  • He felt very guilty for the boggans taking the Pod since he had left it in the protection of Nim Galuu's tree and volunteered to go into boggan territory to retrieve the pod in order to right his wrongs.
  • He, Ronin and MK donned Boggan disguises to infiltrate their territory and take pack the Pod.
  • He and MK released the slugs and worked with them to take the Pod back to Moonhaven.
  • Upon being spotted, Nod fought off the attacking boggans and threw them towards Mandrake.
  • He refused to leave Ronin behind and tried to go down to rescue him.
  • He chooses to return to the leafmen ranks to honor Ronin and lead the defense against the invading boggans to protect the pod.
  • He joined the battle in spite of Finn questioning if he was ready, saying he never quits.
  • He stalled the boggans as long as he could before being knocked out of his hummingbird.
  • He took control of a boggan's bat and used it to chase after Mandrake into the Queen's fortress.
  • After his bat was disintegrated by Mandrake, he searched for ways to rejoin the fight.
  • He rescued Ronin from Mandrake telling him he was not alone and they managed to drive him back.
  • He bowed in respect to the new queen posthumously chosen by Tara.
  • He tells Ronin that he was a good mentor when he joked about being a bad replacement for his father.
  • He stayed in touch with MK, using Bomba's camera system to communicate.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He made fun of Bomba believing he was big and dumb and helped Ronin lead him astray on purpose when he was trying to find them and prove their existence, which painted Bomba as a madman and led his wife to divorce him, making him partly responsible for MK's rough childhood and resentment for her father. What's worse is that he barely shows remorse for this.
    • Furthermore he and Ronin also mock Bomba with offensive impressions in front of MK.
  • He is incredibly foolish and reckless, constantly putting himself and others on harm's way while trying to act quickly and alone, which is shown on multiple occasions:
    • He abandoned his squad during patrol because he became annoyed that they weren't going fast, which led him to be attacked by boggans and to quit the leafmen.
    • He rode his bird irresponsibly with MK trying to get her to trust him.
    • He flew himself and MK into a boggan zone despite Ronin's warnings that it was a trap and forced Ronin to save them both.
  • He has several jerkish moments such as making fun of the slugs and falsely telling MK his aunt was squished by a stomper to make her feel bad about confronting him and Ronin regarding their acts towards Bomba.

Trivia[]

  • It is debatable how involved he was in Ronin's plan when he was leading Bomba astray, as while he's clearly doing it in the present, him being the same age as MK would make him a child when Ronin began to lead Bomba astray, therefore Nod is not nearly as guilty for MK's family falling apart as Ronin is, however given that he still plays a part and continued giving Bomba false leads, it still aplies.
