Niko Bellic is the main protagonist of the 2008 video game Grand Theft Auto IV. He is a previous war criminal, who had his unit betrayed by an unknown man who fled the scene after getting most of the unit killed. Ever since then, Niko has searched for the traitor for over a decade, and finally pinpoints his general location, Liberty City.
He was voiced by Michael Hollick.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- When Roman is about to be attacked by his loan sharks, Niko gives him a call to escape, saving Roman from getting a beating in the process.
- When Roman is getting beaten up by loan sharks, Niko comes to his aid and defeats them all, while chasing down their leader, and killing him in order to protect Roman from further harm.
- After learning that Vlad was cheating with Mallorie (who was Roman's fiancee), Niko tracked Vlad down and killed him for Roman's sake, despite Vlad's threats that "his friends would find Niko and Roman"
- Despite the fact this was a lie by Dimitri, Niko killed Faustin in order to avoid a civil war happening between him and Faustin, meaning he still had admirable intentions.
- After Mallorie introduced Niko to Manny (a fraudulent vigilante), Niko spent a short time taking down drug gangs and pimps, before Niko was fed up of Manny's obnoxious personality.
- He helps Jacob kill his attackers after they betray him at a drug deal.
- When he was working for Elizabeta, he protected Patrick McReary during a drug deal that had gone wrong, earning McReary's friendship in the process.
- After Roman was kidnapped by Johnny Klebitz and his gang, Niko deduced the location of Roman after Dimitri sent a picture of Roman to taunt him. He then killed all of Dimitri's men in the warehouse, and saved Roman's life from further harm.
- He can save Dwayne's life after Playboy X demands Niko kill him, valuing Dwayne's life over money and even allows Dwayne to have Playboy X's apartment after seeing Dwayne's terrible living conditions, although Dwayne declined, wanting Niko to have it for saving his life.
- After finding out that Florian wasn't the betrayer Niko was looking for, he spares his life, and protects him and his boyfriend, Bryce Dawkins from several men who Dimitri sent to kill them.
- He protects Bobby Jefferson when he and Niko were ambushed, and gets him to city hall safely.
- While he was blackmailed into it at first, Niko and United Liberty Paper grew into proper associates, with Niko helping him take down terrorist groups and people who also funded said groups.
- He protects Jimmy Pegorino and his bodyguard after a deal gone wrong.
- He can kill Darko not just for betraying him, but to get revenge for all the people that Darko got killed for his selfish actions to get money for drugs.
- He decides not to go through the deal with Dimitri, and kills him and his entire gang in the process, finally ending the corrupt man, along with his men for good.
- He kills Pegorino and all his men in order to avenge Kate's death, and takes down the Pegorino crime family in the process.
- During the free roam, he can access a police car, and do vigilante missions where Niko finds wanted criminals and kills them.
- He can spare a few characters against his boss' orders: Ivan, Cherise, and Clarence. He would later help the former two on their personal problems. However, he would have to kill the latter in self-defense.
- He helps Cherise Glover by protecting her from her abusive boyfriend, and beats him up to teach him a lesson.
- He is willing to offer Ilyena Faustin some money after her husband's death and was kicked out of the house by Dimitri and she and her daughter were forced to live in a one-room apartment. He also expressed guilt for killing her husband.
- He can beat up Anna's new boyfriend and threaten him to leave her alone, thus saving her from becoming a stripper.
- He helps Hossan Ramzy get the money he needs from his employer, who refused to pay him for being an immigrant to Liberty City.
- He defeats Eddie Low by killing him in self defense, ending his killing spree in Liberty City.
- He decided to retire from his criminal life and help Roman with his taxi business, despite still being wanted by the LCPD for everything he has done.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is extremely lethal, as he kills many people with no remorse throughout the game.
- He committed several war crimes and atrocities during his time in Bosnian War. He also involved in drug and human trafficking syndicate across Europe under Ray Bulgarin before went to Liberty City.
- He has committed several crimes throughout his life, such as helping the McReary family rob the Liberty City bank, helping Jacob with his drug operations, helping Elizabeta with trying to get away with murder (though Elizabeta was eventually caught and is serving 300 years in prison), and helps Ray Boccino with many illegal activities for money.
- He is wrathful, and can let his anger control him, leading to him making violent choices such as killing the leader of the loan sharks that tormented Roman, and killing Vlad after learning he cheated with Mallorie despite her dating Roman, despite Niko wanting to stop killing.
- He is on and off, as he does heroic things throughout the game, but most of the things that Niko does are villainous due to the nature of the GTA series.
- He is vengeful and an anti-hero, being willing to do anything to find Darko to make him pay, telling Roman he won't leave Liberty City until Darko is dead, along with him not being a noble hero most of the time due to his willingness to kill, regardless of if it is in self-defense or not.
