~ Mythra revealing who she is to Rex. |
Mythra (ヒカリ, Hikari) is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Pyra) of Monolith Soft's 2017 action role-playing game Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and the tritagonist of its 2018 prequel Torna ~ The Golden Country.
She is a Blade, a personification of a weapon (in her case, the legendary Aegis Sword) that is specifically said to grant tremendous power to her Drivers, Rex and Addam Origo. She is the Aegis' original personality, having created her other self, Pyra, out of guilt over the destruction she accidentally caused after losing control of her powers. The self-confident and headstrong Mythra uses a variety of light-based powers in combat, whereas her kind-hearted, gentle "sister", Pyra, uses flame-based powers.
She is voiced by Skye Bennett in English, and by Shino Shimoji in Japanese.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Admirable?[]
Torna ~ The Golden Country[]
- She accepted Addam as her Driver and showed genuine respect towards him, even demonstrated her great bond with him throughout their journey.
- When she and Addam met up with Jin and Lora (even though they attacked them and it was Mythra who started it), this was Addam's ploy to test the latter two's abilities.
- She accepted Lora and Jin in the party, despite the attitude she showed towards them shortly.
- Despite her sarcastic and jerkish behavior, she does show genuine care for the other members of the party.
- When the party was informed that Malos would attack the capital, she suggested that they should hurry up.
- When they were on their way to the capital, they encountered a Slithe Jagron, and Mythra, along with the others, took it upon themselves to defeat it.
- When Lora was knighted, Mythra, along with the others, happily applauded for her.
- When Milton did not want to stay, since he wanted to accompany Jin and the others and the latter along with Addam made Jin see the reason but Milton kept insisting, Mythra made him understand why he could not accompany them and, although she sounded quite direct with the reasons, she (at the same time) sounded kind with the reasons and that Milton (at the same time) would give a lot of support to the party.
- Before leaving to fight Malos as the others continue, she turns and smiles at Milton and Mikhail, signaling them to be calm.
- She assisted to fight against Malos, and was very prominent, as she summoned Ophion to destroy his Gargoyle.
- After Malos' Gargoyle defeated Ophion, she was mildly horrified.
- Just as Malos was outmatching most of the party, she would activate her Siren to defeat him, although Malos also activated his own.
- When Malos' Siren attacked Auresco, destroying large part of it, she knew that Milton was there, and was horrified at seeing this. With the feeling that he died, Pneuma's power had awakened.
- Despite the fact that the attack made the Torna Titan and many people to die (between them, Hugo and the Tornan King), she didn't intend this to happen, and when she recovers conscience, she was very horrified and heartbroken; this gets worse when she discovers that Milton was dead, which causes her to scream in anguish, creating and transforming into Pyra.
- The reason why she created Pyra was very understandable, since Mythra made her as the most outward personality she never had, and hated herself for what she did, as well as more than not being better friends with the other members of the party.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2[]
- When Rex and the others were being outmatched by Malos, Akhos, Sever and Obrona, she reawakens to save Rex.
- She, along with Rex, managed to fight on par against Malos and Akhos, and thanks to that, they managed to kill Obrona and Sever and force Malos and Akhos to retreat.
- During Vandham's funeral, she took control to berate Rex and, even though she sounded quite hurtful and rude, it was because she was still afraid to use the power she feared so much, as seen when she accidentally destroyed Torna 500 years ago. In addition, she felt regret of how she treated him, according to Pyra herself.
- During the hot springs, when she takes over and bathes with Poppi and Nia, she begins to bond with them, and when the latter starts to leave, Mythra discovers her secret, with Nia telling her to keep it from Rex, which she complies.
- She has a friendly talk with Nia and Poppi after the hot springs and before Lila attacks.
- Before leaving, she decides to stay so Rex can learn how to use her power accurately.
- While talking about it, her and Rex were starting to bond a bit, although Mythra was slightly nonchalant towards Rex's attitude.
- She helps Rex in her battle against Mòrag, and promises him that she will not use the power she feared the most.
- She, alongside the party, fights Zeke, despite the fact it wasn't taken seriously.
- While fighting Patroka and Mikhail, she discusses how to defeat them and tells the tactics to Rex, enacting the plan.
- Knowing how to enact the plan, she swaps into Pyra and, along with Brighid surrounding Patroka, Mikhail, Perdido and Cressidus, unleashes an energy beam on them, killing the latter two but leaving the first two unharmed.
- When she reencounters with Fan la Norne (even though she speaks casually in the next chapter), she is a bit awkward and shy towards her, because she did not see her for 500 years, calling her Haze instead (which is how they called her before), but when Fan la Norne doesn't remember her, Mythra apologizes for calling her Haze and appears a little sad and a bit regretful about it.
- When she talked to Amalthus (even though she was somewhat suspicious of him), she still spoke civilly but with a cold aura.
- When Mòrag had a discussion with Roderich regarding who attacked Indol, she interrogated the latter and, although it sounded harsh, she did so to find out what really happened, and in the end she deciphered that it could be Jin.
- At the end, when the party fights against Jin, she confronts him and asks why he chose the dark path, remembering that he was a pacifist and never liked fighting, and when Jin blames her for what happened with Torna, Mythra feels saddened, indicating that she still feels guilty for what happened 500 years prior.
- She felt sad when Jin killed Fan la Norne, watching in grief while Rex held her corpse.
- During the meeting, while chatting to ease the conflict, she, along with Zeke, Mòrag, and Niall, went to speak with the other leaders of the nations, convincing Raqura that it was not Niall who ordered the attack.
- She assisted in Fan la Norne's funeral, to show valuable respect to her.
- Also, while she didn't go to comfort Rex (saying that is better not to bother him in tragic times like this), she reveals that it was actually Pyra's idea, hinting that Mythra wanted to comfort Rex in the funeral.
- When Niall apparently died, she showed sadness.
- She repairs the Omega Fetter, causing Genbu to resurface.
- She does show great care about Pyra, as she thinks of her as a part to improve herself, and even treats her like a best friend and "sister" (in a very friendly way), even though their traits are apparently different.
- When Ahkos, Patroka and Mikhail came to where they were, she, along with the others, were ready to fight.
- As Jin was about to kill Rex, Pyra warns that if he does, she will kill herself by activating a laser with the light-speed particles, and although Pyra was the one in control (considering how willing she is), Mythra agreed as well.
- When Rex's consciousness meets hers and Pyra's, they join Rex and cause Pneuma to resurface and awaken.
- When she wakes up after being on Rex's lap (even though she felt a bit awkward), she still thanks him.
- When Rex tells her that he fought for her and Pyra, adding that he may not be good enough for Mythra, she tells him not to say that and that she too made a choice.
- Although she didn't quite agree with Rex's plan to protect Jin, she does have a genuine reason due to all the bad things Jin did to the party during their journey.
- She tells her story and things about herself to Poppi, telling her fears of destroying the world, and even calming Poppi down when she was afraid of destroying the promise. Mythra and Poppi then made a promise, that if the latter ever look like she is about to destroy the world, she will do what the former asked to her.
- When Amalthus clashed against the party and asks her if she would defy him again, Mythra said that she is indeed Rex's Blade, showing the great bond and loyalty she has with him clearly.
- During the final battle against Amalthus and with Jin redeeming himself to protect the party, she is shown to be somewhat friendly towards the latter. Also, she was sad when Jin sacrificed himself to kill Amalthus.
- When it was discovered that the only way to stop the World Tree from collapsing was for Pneuma to sacrifice herself, even though she was in control, she, along with Pyra, agreed to do so, plus they made Rex no longer need his core so that he continues to live. In the end, Pneuma managed to sacrifice herself, saving Alrest in the process.
- Like Pyra, she is shown to genuinely care and even love Rex fondly, even thinking of marrying him in the future, which occurred at the time of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is too arrogant and jerkish to be NPG, as she often acts out of immense pride, and her violent temper leads to various moments she can be rather dismissive and uncompromising to her friends, most notably putting herself at odds with Rex quite often. Although she did start to tone these negative traits down and has become deeply caring towards her friends, especially with Rex, the fact that she is still proven rather egotistical and reckless doesn't mean she subverted these qualities afterwards.
- Such jerkish moments were shown by insulting Zeke by calling him a "Thunderdweeb", angrily slapping Rex when he asked why is she blushing when Nia insulted Zeke, and mocking Tora by asking him if he would prefer to her being mean to him when he asked her of being disrespectful towards Rex.
- She can be a control freak, as she berates her friends when something in their and/or her direction goes horribly wrong, or when they don't do something good for her.
- Such controlling moments were shown by berating Rex too harshly during Vandham's funeral; although it is very understantable, it was because she was afraid over misusing her powers.
- Although she did regret considering the fact she treated Rex in an unpleasant manner and he took the blame for himself from later on, she does not subvert this factor either, as Pyra apologized for her and Mythra didn't apologize for herself.
- Such controlling moments were shown by berating Rex too harshly during Vandham's funeral; although it is very understantable, it was because she was afraid over misusing her powers.
- Given the fact that she sleepwalked into the men's bedrooms (where Milton and Rex slept in), she does show childish behavior.
- Such immature moments were shown when she wakes up and attacks Milton (even though the boy defended himself), Addam (when he was trying to interfere her), Rex (by throughing objects at him, one of them in the head) and Tora (by one of those objects thrown towards Rex). Although she relented after hearing Rex that she was the one who got into his bed (unlike with Milton), and got angry with herself for that. However, this isn't subverted.
- She is somewhat hypocritical, as she shows no regard for being brutally honest, even accusing and berating others when saying liable things, despite her own proclaims.
- Such dishonest moments were shown when she berates Milton when he began detesting her food, and falsely accuses Rex by calling him a "pervert" after throwing objects at him and leaving the room embarrassed, even though there are some of her reactions that are seen as rather perverted.
- Lastly, she is quite lethal towards her enemies, and even her friends for no reason other than her own retaliatory nature.
- One such lethality was where she threatened to burn Nia when she teased her about being clingy on Rex.
