~ Mr. Boss in the pilot. |
Mr. Boss is one of the five main characters in Smiling Friends and the overarching protagonist of the series.
He's the CEO of the Smiling Friends Inc., a charity dedicated to helping people smile, and usually informs his employee about their next job.
He is voiced by Marc M.
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He is the founder of the Smiling Friends Co., a benevolent charity business dedicated to help people smile. Because of this, he helps, both directy and indirectly, to save or improve the lives of many, but has a particular role in the following:
- He sent Charlie and Pim to stop a suicidal Desmond from killing himself, which they inadvertently succeeded with. He later became an enthusiastic businessman.
- He motivated Pim and Charlie to help Mr. Frog get his career back and improve his reputation.
- He tells Pim and Charlie to help Shrimp improve his life and love situation, which ends with him finding a new partner.
- He tells Pim and Charlie to help Jimble smile, which ends with him realizing he is not a good fit for President, thereby helping the country.
- He tells Pim and Charlie to help Professor Psychotic with his "egg dilemma," which ends with him creating life and making amends with his brother.
- When the Frowning Friends were dominating the world with their nihilism, he attempted to shoot them down, thereby stopping their agenda.
- He later cheered Grim up after the latter started crying, which helped him forgo nihilism and become happy.
- He turned up to Charlie's funeral during his temporary death and expressed sadness over it, even performing a slam poetry act.
- He loves and cares for his employees extensively, giving them gifts and treating them as if they were his friends or even family. He also adores his son Jason, and even revives him with the magical red jewel he got from Spamtopia.
- He forgives Oscar for trying to execute him, insisting that Spamtopia isn't so bad after all and giving him a French kiss.
- His villainous actions are caused by mental illness or his dissociation, and he doesn't wish to be evil, even arguing against his alternate personalities on occasion. Some of them even had good, albeit misguided intentions, such as him offering Pim cyanide to spare the latter from a painful execution.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Him attempting to kill the Frowning Friends was motivated by jealousy and an attempt to regain control of the marketplace, not over their nihilism. He even insisted that their idea was "genius" and that he should've done the same.
- He's On & Off, as his mental illnesses cause him to commit several questionable actions in the series:
- In "Mr. Frog," Mr. Boss enthusiastically cheers as the title character viciously devours his producer on camera, along with the audience watching.
- In "A Silly Halloween Special," he joins the crowd in violently attacking and setting the Forest Demon on fire as part of a Halloween bonfire, after the demon is falsely accused of wearing blackface, with him also brutally cannibalizing his corpse in the process.
- In "Frowning Friends," Mr. Boss spirals into madness upon learning that the Frowning Friends are moving in nearby. He debates with his evil alter-ego before attempting to assassinate them with a rifle.
- In "Mr. President," when Glep votes for Mr. Frog, leading to his election as president and costing Mr. Boss ten thousand dollars, Mr. Boss sets out to assassinate Mr. Frog, saying that "whatever happens now, is on Glep".
- In "The Magical Red Jewel (aka Tyler Gets Fired)," Mr. Boss fires Tyler without any explanation. Later, when Oscar threatens to execute both him and Pim for accidentally looking him in the eye, Mr. Boss attempts to coerce Pim into taking a cyanide pill so they can die on their own terms.
- This episode also reveals that Mr. Boss has a manifesto, the contents of which disturb Charlie and suggest it may hold troubling revelations about Mr. Boss’s true nature.
- In "Pim Finally Turns Green," when Rotten the Snowman becomes sentient, Mr. Boss immediately tries to kill him by shooting him in the head. After being stopped, he insists he will try again if the Smiling Friends don't deal with the situation.
- While he genuinely care for his employees, he can be neglectful to them, such as when he didn't check on Allan while he was being attacked by bliblies, sent Pim to collect wood, which caused him to be attacked by the Forest Demon (although he warned him not to cross the bridge), and fired Tyler for seemingly no reason.
