I shoud've died in the fire at the Beach. I've got nowhere to go... and nowhere to be.
~ Aguni to Arisu.

Morizono Aguni (or simply Agni) is a supporting protagonist in the Alice in Borderland thriller Netflix series and manga who started as a temporary antagonist in the last half of the first season/stage.

He is a Special Defence Force Officer in the real world who was transported into the borderlands who served as the right-hand of the Hatter, until he killed him out of self-defense after trying to convince him to disband the Beach.

He is portrayed by Sho Aoyagi. In the English dub, he is voiced by Harry Standjofski.

His Good Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • It isn't entirely clear why Aguni wanted Usagi to come with him, some suggest it was for sexual purposes while others suggest it was because of her physical capabilities. The answer is likely the latter as there isn't any good indication of Aguni's personality at the time to suggest that he was going to have his way with her.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • In general, he's resourceful, intelligent, and protective.
  • He helped established the Beach with his best friend Hatter, out of good intentions to helping everyone escape from the Borderlands, but became jaded after Hatter started killing people for betraying him and became delusional.
    • He also accepted the opportunity to lead the Militant to help Hatter to keep the most dangerous people at the Beach (such as Niragi and Last Boss) under control and prevent them to disturb others.
  • He's helped with the Five of Spades when Aguni teamed up with Arisu and Karube to help win the Five of Spades and take down the Horse Head Dealers.
  • Even though he started the massacre in the Ten of Hearts game, he redeems himself when Niragi comes in guns blazing and starts killing in everyone in his deluded state and when Niragi is about to shoot Arisu, Aguni gets in front of him and takes a couple bullets for Arisu while charging down Niragi and overpowering him.
    • For unknown reasons even after everything Niragi has done, Aguni decides to spare him likely only disarming Niragi after tackling him.
  • He shows a lot of remorse for the horrible things he has done, especially for killing his own friend Hatter as he immediately broke down into tears after killing him and again later when he tries to convince everyone he's the witch so he could get himself killed to put himself out his misery. He even keeps seeing illusions of Hatter created by his deep guilt and sorrow.
  • Under his blunt personality he has a heart of gold for people like Akane Heiya and Hayato Dodo.
    • In the TV series, he very deeply cares about Akane and is in love with her as best shown when the King of Spades shoots her, Aguni becomes extremely enraged by this and brutally beats the living crap out of the King of Spades for it.
  • When Arisu lures the King of Spades over to the drug store and the King of Spades hesitates, Aguni forces the King of Spades' hand and pins him down so Arisu can ignite the bomb trying to sacrifice himself for Arisu's sake until Arisu stops him from doing so and saving him, and helping Arisu injure the King of Spades.
    • In the TV series, seeing the King of Spades severely injured in the rubble and handing Aguni the gun silently begging him to end his life, the King of Spades tells him he's sorry with Aguni looking back at him with sympathy telling the King of Spades he never held anything against him and then mercy kills him by shooting him in the head.
  • He directly killed the King of Spades which gaved everybody another 13 days of survival on everyone's visas.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Morizono Aguni is lethal:
    • He has no problem with letting people die for his own survival: he lets one of his fellow Beach members die in the Five of Spades so that he can get closer up to one of the Horse Head Dealers and lets a man get mauled to death by wolves when he had ample ability to save him.
    • He started a massacre in the Ten of Hearts game and ordered the militants to kill everyone and burn them in the fire of judgment until the witch is discovered. However, the real underlying reason for starting the massacre was to enact vengeance on everyone for making Hatter crazy.
  • He demonstrates jerkish and also rude behaviour within the series and when he sees Arisu again he mockingly asks where his friend Karube is, and questions how someone like Arisu is still alive.
  • His methods of achieving his goals and finishing games often rely on brute force which is ultimately the reason why his specialty are Spade games which are physical games.

Trivia[]

  • While Morizono Aguni is currently Inconsistently Admirable, his status could change in the upcoming release of Season 3.
