“ | Okay, everyone! | „ |
~ Monika's catchphrase |
“ | You have so much value. To me, and your other friends, too. This club wouldn't have be the same without you. I really, really mean that. You coming here was the best thing could have happened. Even if we never got any other members... I would still be happy. That's what you brought here. You brought us a vision... and you also brought happiness. And that's your favorite thing to do... right? | „ |
~ Monika to Sayori |
Monika, formally aliased as Monitor Kernel Access, is the titular main protagonist of the visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, the enhanced expansion of 2017 visual novel, Doki Doki Literature Club!, where she was the game's main antagonist. She is Sayori's best friend, and serves as one of the four members and president of the newly-formed Literature Club.
She is a rogue AI who, thanks to the experiments of Paula Miner and her company, became sentient. Now wanting to win the player's love, she messes with the AIs of her friends in order to make them more unlikable. However, this ultimately goes awry when her friends start killing themselves because of it, excluding Natsuki. At the end of the game, after having her file deleted, she realizes the wrong of her actions and chooses to redeem herself.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Admirable?[]
- She genuinely did care about her friends, with her only intending to make them more unlikable rather than flat out killing them. After being deleted by the player, she tells them that she lied about deleting them for good, stating that she couldn't bring herself to do so and instructs the Player on how they can bring them all back, showing that despite the fact she was more than capable of deleting them for good, she chose not to because she truly did care for them.
- Not only was she genuinely affable to them in the side stories of Doki Doki Literature Club! Plus, even going out of her way to support Natsuki's love for manga after realizing how much flack Natsuki faced for loving manga, and feeling bad for judging her at first, it was not even her intention to murder her friends in the first place. She only wanted to make them unlikable to the player. However, due to her lack of coding skills, it caused them to kill themselves. She also didn't even delete their files either. Even though she killed them, she did care about them regardless of if they were real or not because they were her friends and couldn't bring herself to properly delete them.
- She also lacked any sings of sadism in what she did, thus being all out of desperation and not animosity or spite.

- Upon realizing what she has done, she proceeds to restore the entire world, along with all of her friends while making sure she herself remains deleted as atonement for actions. Furthermore, if the player tries to restore her character file, she prevents them from doing so, stating she doesn't deserve to be brought back.
- When Sayori starts messing with the game after gaining knowledge of being in a simulation, she proceeds to delete her along with the rest of the world upon realizing that there was no happiness in the Literature Club. This is actually Monika's way of protecting the Player as well as her friends, knowing that not only would the Player be forced to relive the events she had already put them through before, but also that Sayori would likely turn out to be exactly like her. She ultimately prevents either of those from happening by destroying the entire world.
- She is genuinely in love with the player, as she is affable and apologizes in the end after going on her rant towards them after being deleted, feeling remorse for how she acted.
- She can be compassionate towards "real people," especially towards the player. If she isn't deleted right away, she offers solid advice for how to be kind towards people struggling with depression, such as Sayori.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- Her terminating her world after she realized that there was no happiness in the Literature Club, while admirable, is also a double-edged sword, as her deleting the world would have also killed Natsuki and Yuri, who were completely innocent in this specific timeline. This makes Monika a bit too lethal for Near Pure Good or Pure Good.
Trivia[]
- She is currently the only Doki Doki Literature Club character to be Inconsistently Admirable.
