With so much time left, I thought I'd park myself at the gate... but well, taking that approach is just no fun at all... Because watching you run and shriek like a baby... makes the sadist in me ache for a chance to play
~ Midnight to Minoru Mineta during the Final Exams
IT'S UP TO YOU! BE STRONG!
~ Midnight's last words to Momo Yaoyorozu

Nemuri Kayama better known as Midnight is a recurring character in the Japanese manga/anime series My Hero Academia, and a supporting character in it's anime/manga prequel spin-off, My Hero Academia - Vigilantes.

In both the main series and in Vigilantes, she is voiced by Akeno Watanabe in Japanese and Elizabeth Maxwell in English.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Admirable?[]

Background[]

  • After catching Aizawa, Mic, and Oboro Shirakumo eating their lunch on UA's roof, she chose to praise their rebellious attitudes, rather than telling them off.
  • Cleared up Aizawa's confusion regarding her revealing outfit.
  • Adopted a stray cat that Aizawa, Mic, and Shirakumo had found.
  • After learning that Aizawa and Shirakumo hadn't been assigned yet to a Hero Office, she offered them to join her at His Purple Highness' agency.
  • During a robbery involving a smoke-producing villain, she prioritized evacuating citizens, fearing that the smoke could be poisonous.
  • After failing to catch the villain, she, Aizawa, and Shirakumo apologized to His Purple Highness, only for him to him praise them instead.
  • After they encountered the robber a few days later, she helped arrest him.
  • Politely declined Shirakumo's offer to start a hero agency with all of them.
  • During a work patrol, a villain named Garvey attacked, Midnight used the Hero Network to gather information about him.
  • Whilst Aizawa, Shirakumo, and His Purple Highness fought Garvey, Midnight went to call for backup and helped evacuate the area.
  • Mourned Shirakumo when he died fighting Garvey.
  • Advised Mic and Aizawa to cover themselves so they didn't get sick as it rained.

My Hero Academia - Vigilantes:[]

  • After Kuin Hachisuka used her Bee Quirk to spread Trigger and create an outbreak of Instant Villains, Midnight was among the heroes who arrived on scene and quickly put an end to the outbreak.
  • After a Suicide Bomber tried to blow up the police station, Aizawa and Midnight were quick to neutralize the threat.
  • Midnight wrote a letter of recommendation for Aizawa and sent it to UA, which would later result in him getting his teaching job there.
  • To celebrate the reopening of the Marukane Department Store, Midnight accepted Makoto Tsukauchi's request to join the event as a performer.
  • Convinced Aizawa to help with the Trigger investigations, despite his insistence that being a detective was not his thing.
  • After learning of a new version of the Trigger drug was being distributed at events, Midnight went undercover at one of the events to investigate.
    • After bumping into Koichi and Kazuho, who were also investigating, she decided to join forces with them and arrest any suspects.
  • After Hina tricked everyone into drinking Trigger, causing them to lose control over their Quirks, Midnight used her Somnambulist quirk to subdue everyone in the room and arrest Hina.
  • Despite being aware of all of Hina's actions, she still shows empathy for her.
  • Midnight participated in a farewell event at the Tokyo Sky Egg to celebrate Captain Celebrity's return to the USA.
  • During a bombing attack at the Sky Egg, Midnight was put into a group in charge of looking after the spectators.
    • Whilst looking after one of the young spectators, Midnight goes as far to conceal her revealing outfit under a jumper.
  • Offered to help Koichi and Soga Kugisaki extract the Queen Bee from Kazuho after it turned her into it's new host.
  • She put Kazuho to sleep and took her to a hospital to recieve medical attention.
  • When Endeavor tried to stop Kazuho and the Queen Bee, Nemuri calmed him and Soga down and bought Koichi time to escape.
  • Consoled Kazuho's mother at the hospital.
  • After hearing that the hospital Kazuho was staying at had been recieving inquiries from unidentified individuals, Midnight tried to request that Kazuho be moved to a more secure and isolated hospital, but was unsuccessful.
  • Midnight went with police to guard the hospital that Kazuho was at.
  • When Naomasa tried to chase after Soga after he ran away, Midnight stopped him, telling him they needed to guard the hospital.
  • When Number 6 put his plan to kill Kazuho into action, Midnight went with Naomasa and a backup squad to Kazuho's hospital room so she could guard her.
  • After Number 6 escaped and sent some Anonymous to kill the police and his allies, Midnight and the police confronted the villains and arrested them, before she returned to Kazuho's hospital room to defend her.
  • When Kazuho suffered a seizure, Midnight performed a cardiopulmonary resuscitation, successfully stabilizing her and saving her life.
  • When Kazhuo woke shortly after, Midnight advised she get some rest until Koichi gets back.
  • Helped the Pro Heroes clean up in the aftermath of the Naruhata Lockdown.

My Hero Academia:[]

  • She is generally a good teacher who encourages her students and helps them reach their full potential.
  • She was among the Pros that came to the U.S.J. after being informed of the villain attack by Ida.
  • In the climax of Izuku and Shoto's fight in the School Festival she tries to use her quirk to knock them out and avoid severe injuries.
  • She uses her quirk to put Katsuki to sleep when he was being overly aggressive towards the knocked out Shoto.
  • She helps Class 1-A come up with their hero names and later assists them in creating their Ultimate Moves.
  • When Izuku left the school grounds to gather supplies for School Festival, she became worried that he wouldn't make it back in time for the event.
  • Oversaw Class 1-A's joint training session with Class 1-B, and gave continuos praise to both classes.
  • She fights in the Paranormal Liberation War in an attempt to take out the League of Villains and the Paranormal Liberation Front.
  • She motivates Denki to fight and get over his fears which allows him to drain a massive electricity attack from a PLF member.
  • She puts several villains to sleep with her quirk allowing the heroes to progress quickly with the mission.
  • She goes with Kamui Woods in an attempt to knock out Gigantomachia by using her quirk.
  • In her final moments, she calls Momo and informs her about Gigantomachia, encouraging the students to fight and sedate the giant which would later give the heroes an advantage in the last moments of the war.
  • Posthumously motivated Mina and Kirishima to defeat her killer and the Sludge Villain during the Final War.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is way too perverted to be even Near Pure Good through her gimmick and often acts in a sexual, lecherous manner and willing to get seductive in front of underage students such as Sero, making her incredibly lewd and raunchy (it's not helping that her superheroine costume is revealing and she has no shame about it. Although, to give her some credit, it's not as revealing as her original costume.)
  • She also has a sadistic side to her, as she habitually enjoys dominating other people and humiliating them (her enemies or otherwise), she even displays it in front of everyone like her fight against Hanta Sero and Minoru Mineta, for example.
  • She has several arrogant and jerkish moments, especially regarding her rivalry with Mt. Lady since she is often arguing with her.
