You don't have to look so sad! We actually find it to be quite livable! I mean, is perpetual twilight really all that bad?
~ Midna
Eee-hee-hee! See you later!
~ Midna's catchphrase

Midna is the titular deuteragonist of the 2006 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the 13th main installment of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series.

She is the Princess of the Twilight Realm who was cursed into an imp form and forced into exile by Zant, who wanted her throne for himself to start his personal agenda. She meets Link, as a wolf, and teams up with him to find the Fused Shadows and later the Shards of the Mirror of Twilight throughout their journey to stop the manifestation of Twilight across Hyrule and to defeat Zant and later Ganondorf.

History[]

This section is too long. Visit here for more details: Midna's Synopsis on the Heroes Wiki.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Admirable?[]

  • Midna has freed a newly transformed Link from imprisonment at Hyrule Castle's Underground Waterway.
  • Gameplay-wise, she can create a dark radius so Link (as a wolf) can attack multiple foes at once, (especially Shadow Beasts since they are known for screeching when only one is left to bring back its fallen buddies) and can do the Midna Jump to reach far or high places when prompted.
  • She used her magic to teleport large objects to places that change the course of the game, such as:
    • Teleporting a bridge to reach the Eldin Province where the missing kids are located.
    • A volcanic rock that melts the ice and saves the frozen Zora tribe.
    • The piece of the Bridge of Eldin to lessen the need for major backtracking.
    • The powerful cannon that can shoot anyone into the City in the Sky.
  • She apologizes to Link for treating him poorly after Morpheel is defeated.
  • When Zant offers to let her join him in his conquest on the Light World, she turns it down, resulting in Zant exposing her to Lanayru's intense light that mortally wounds her, showing that she did have some care.
  • While she did start off cold and apathetic towards those living in the Light World but having traveled with Link and witnessing Zelda's selfless sacrifice to save her life, she started developing empathy and became a caring person.
  • After Link pulls the Master Sword, effectively expelling the Shadow Crystal that Zant exposed him to remain in wolf form outside of the Twilight affected areas, Midna initially thought of leaving it behind but then decided to keep it so Link can switch between human and wolf form at any time as well as warping when Link asks her to, which was pivotal in making progress in the game.
    • She insisted that Link transform when no onlookers are around since it would likely cause so much panic among the people.
  • Midna stated that she feels terrible for them having to hurt Yeta, who was possessed by the Mirror of Twilight, becoming Blizzeta. She is determined to get the other Mirror Shards before any more innocent creatures like Yeta end up being exposed to its dark magic.
  • When she returns to the Twilight Realm and finds her people transformed into Shadow Beasts by Zant, she was horrified that he was willing to treat them like this. This shows that she cared deeply for her people, the Twili.
  • Having retrieved the Fused Shadows, she is able to kill Zant, though only by defeating Ganondorf could he be permanently killed off.
    • His death was justified and well-deserved since he usurped the throne, turned her into an imp, and banished her to the world of light as well as committed heinous crimes against the people of Hyrule and the Twilight Realm.
  • Fearing for Princess Zelda's safety after deducing that Ganondorf is at Hyrule Castle, they head to Hyrule Castle where she used the Fused Shadows to take on the form of a gargantuan arachnid form to destroy the barrier surrounding it.
  • She declared to Ganondorf that even if he was chosen by the Triforce of Power, she will never serve him.
  • She attempted to protect the lifeless Zelda, although it was futile when Ganondorf possessed the princess.
  • When Link weakens Puppet Zelda, Midna used the Fused Shadows to take on the form again to free Zelda from the King of Evil's grasp.
  • After reviving Princess Zelda and faced with Ganondorf in the form he took on when he met Zant, Midna teleports Link and the princess out of Hyrule Castle before once more using the Fused Shadows to battle him (rightly so since Hyrule Castle got blown up after that and it would have killed them). She apparently lost, but she managed to survive, and after Ganondorf was defeated, she returned to her true form.
  • During the ending, she gave a heartfelt good-bye to Link and Zelda, shedding a tear that she would use to shatter the mirror once she returned to the Twilight Realm to make sure that these events would never happen again.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • While she was banished from the Twilight Realm and it was clear that it was unwarranted, Midna is presented as a darker character and did display a lot of apathy towards the people of Hyrule and admitted that she didn't care what happened to the Light Realm as long as her own kingdom returned to normal. This means she started off as an anti-hero.
  • She stated that she was hardly qualified to forgive the Sages for banishing Ganondorf into her realm as this man would end up granting power to Zant, who would banish her, and drive the plot into motion.
  • Midna is pretty mischievous, arrogant, and can be such a jerk to Link, and at one point to Princess Zelda, at times, and at their first meeting, she viewed him as a servant in the beginning and bosses him around a lot. This lessens over time and starts to view Link as a person during the second half of the story.
  • While Zant had deserved what he got, Midna's other reason for killing him was out of rage, because he mocked her cursed state and noted that as long as Ganondorf lives, it won't be broken.
