| ~ Mel when he re-encounters with Gru in the sky. |
Mel is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Lucy) of Illumination's 8th full-length feature film, Despicable Me 3, and a supporting character its 2024 sequel, Despicable Me 4.
Mel is the new and proclaimed leader of the Minions and one of Felonious Gru's most trusted Minions, and Mel is perceived as a son-like figure by Gru. Mel initially betrayed Gru due to no longer participating in villainy, but eventually decided to reunite with Gru after realizing the sweet memories he had with him. Thus, Mel eventually assisted in defeating Balthazar Bratt, eventually became an agent of the Anti-Villain League and became a member of the Mega Minions.
Mel is voiced by the same actor and director, Pierre Coffin, as with the other Minions (including Kevin).
Good Rankings[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Prior to the events of Despicable Me 3, Mel had a bonding and affectionate "father-and-son" relationship with both Gru and Dr. Nefario, as shown in the flashbacks while Mel is in State Prison with the other Minions.
- Missing Gru, he was the one who came up with the idea over the Minions escaping the State Prison by building a giant ship, and through an unexpected manner, reunited with Gru (along with Lucy and Dru) by crossing paths with him while riding the ship through the skies, and following him to Hollywood, where he and the Minions witness Balthazar Bratt's expanding and giant chewing bubblegum ambushing Hollywood.
- When Hollywood was covered in Balthazar Bratt's expanding and giant chewing bubblegum (which was about to fly up into space), Mel commanded all of the Minions pop and annihilate it, saving thousands of lives, including Gru, Dru, Lucy Wilde and the three girls (Margo, Edith and Agnes), from getting sent up to space and getting their lives drastically risked from lack of oxygen.
- After defeating Balthazar Bratt, Mel had a beautiful and heartwarming reunion with his old and permanent master, Gru.
- Even after he returns to villainy again, he still retains his affability to Gru and remained obedient to his new master Dru.
- Although Gru, Lucy, and Dru were more admirable, the trio had more resources than him and were focused with different roles to play in defeating Balthazar Bratt.
- Upon his transformation into a Mega Minion, Mel assists into defeating Maxime Le Mal.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Right at the beginning of the film, Mel is shown to be too much of an arrogant jerk to be qualified as NPG: he and the other Minions (excluding Dave and Jerry) betray Gru for no longer participating into villainy, along with him and the other Minions being assertive towards Fritz, in spite of him being an innocent man who is on the lookout for Gru, for the same reason he and the other Minions betrayed the latter.
- He is too incompetent to be NPG, as when he became a Mega Minion he did a horrible job with doing heroics. Even though there weren’t any confirmed deaths and this wasn’t intentional, he still caused a bunch of collateral damage in the city.
- Mel has a couple of mischievous moments, such as performing an inappropriate dance, "Papa Mama Loca Pipa," with the other Minions.
- Mel performs a "Punt The Puppy" moment, where he left a Minion behind in jail while escaping from State Prison, despite his loud cries of help.
Trivia[]
- Mel and Kevin are one of two Minions to be Inconsistently Admirable.
- Mel is the only Mega Minion to be Inconsistently Admirable.
