Maui is the deuteragonist of Disney's 56th full-length animated feature film Moana and 63rd full-length animated feature Moana 2.
He is initially a boastful Demigod who was responsible for the theft of the Heart of Te Fiti who was later thrust into Moana's plan to have him undo his mistake and save the world from Te Fiti's demonic form, Te Kā, and later helps Moana and her crew break Nalo’s curse to unite the tribes of the ocean.
He was voiced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who also plays Luke Hobbs in The Fast and the Furious series, The Foundation in Fortnite, and Black Adam in Black Adam.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
Moana[]
- Gave humanity various gifts, such as sunlight, fire, land, and coconuts.
- Helping Moana defeat the Kakamora after the pirates attacked them and tried to steal the Heart of Te Fiti for themselves.
- He eventually decided to help Moana retrieve the Heart so that he could redeem himself before venturing into Lalotai to retrieve his magical fishhook to aid him for the mission.
- Teaching Moana sailing after she gave him her reassurance when he told her his past which involved him being rejected and thrown into the ocean by his parents shortly after his birth.
- Returning after initially abandoning Moana upon his fishhook being broken by Te Kā, to aid her in the battle against the demon.
- Apologizing to Te Fiti for stealing her heart and causing her to turn into Te Kā in the first place.
- At the end of the film, it's shown that Moana has become one of his many tattoos, showing how much he treasures and values his newfound relationship made with her.
Moana 2[]
TBA
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He was greedy for overwhelming power and choose to steal the Heart of Te Fiti, thus leading to the creation of Te Kā and therefore the destruction of nearly all of marine and plant life throughout the world. However later on, he felt remorseful of his actions and worked with Moana in order to correct them. Plus it is even pointed out he stole the heart so the humans can love him.
- Even while he may be a demigod, he's still very arrogant, having his entire song, “You're Welcome”, dedicated to him bragging about his achievements.
- Before he honored Moana into his tattoos, he has some jerkish moments as seen below,
- He deliberately attempts to strand Moana on his island so he can steal her boat.
- He attempted to fatten Heihei so he could eat him.
- He attempted to throw Moana overboard many times only for the ocean to put her back onboard.
- He refused to teach Moana to sail only for the ocean to hit him with a blow dart so he can comply.
- He urinated in the ocean while Moana had her hand in the water while having a smug look on his face, leaving her disgusted as a result.
- He shocked Moana by saying entering the Realm of Monsters requires a human sacrifice, while he was joking, it was too unsettling.
- When his hook was damaged and called Moana out for it, he said the ocean chose her wrongly, which hurt her feelings and while it was understandable and returned later, him lashing out at Moana over not letting his hook get destroyed was too harsh.
Trivia[]
- There is a chance he could become Pure Good or Near Pure Good in the upcoming sequel and show he subverted much, if not all, of his corrupting factors.
