I came to Jericho because, here, Androids are free, free to live in the dark hoping that no one finds us, free to die in silence hoping for a change that's never gonna come. But I don't want that freedom, and I'm not gonna beg for the right to smile, or love, or stand tall. I don't know about you, but there's something inside me that knows that I am more than what they say. I am alive, and they're not gonna take that from me anymore. Our days of slavery are over. What humans don't wanna hear, we will tell them. What they don't wanna give, we take. We are people, we are alive, we are free!
~ Markus' speech to the people of Jericho.

Markus is one of the three playable protagonists of the video game Detroit: Become Human and is the central character of the game overall.

He is an RK200 android.

Markus is voiced and motion-captured by Jesse Williams.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • As Carl's personal android, he constantly helps him with his housework since Carl is an old man who can't walk, and sometimes they have fun with certain hobbies like chess. Markus would also listen to Carl's advice on deciding his own future for when he is gone.
  • While he can seriously hurt Leo if the latter Markus decides to defend himself, going against Carl's orders, this was unintentional as Leo was trying to hurt Markus and he just wanted to defend himself, not to mention that Carl may die if Markus decides to do nothing and let Leo beat him up.
  • After arriving in Jericho and seeing the precarious conditions in which the androids live there, he decides to raid the Cyberlife warehouse in order to steal all the blue blood and biocomponents in order to save the androids in terrible conditions.
  • Regardless of whether he succeeds in getting the biocomponents or not, Markus finally decides that it is time for the androids to be free and encourages them to follow Markus' path to find freedom.
  • Record a message on Stratford Tower, demanding the release of all androids and that they be seen as a new life form.
  • Depending on the player's decisions, he is able to save Simon's life even though doing so would be risky.
  • He and North free several androids being sold in Capitol Park and motivate them to pursue freedom. In addition, he is able to spare the lives of two police officers despite killing several androids.
  • Carry out a peaceful march in the city of Detroit with the purpose of making all humans understand their rights. Depending on the player's decisions, he can either fight the police or just run away from the place and not confront them.
  • Once US forces storm Jericho, Markus tries to save as many androids as he can and is also able to save Josh's life. In addition, he is also able to make Connor also become a deviant and leave behind his mission to destroy all the deviant androids.
  • Regardless of whether Markus chooses the peaceful route or the revolution, if he succeeds, Markus will eventually get all androids released and accepted as a new life form, while making a speech about how androids are really alive and now they are free.
  • His actions lead to Reina deciding to motivate people into accepting Androids are free in Tokyo and bring freedom to their people.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • While Markus may even turn out to be Pure Good on the peaceful route, he can also be a pretty lethal anti-hero who will be more than willing to kill humans if it means freedom for all androids on the revolution route. While his goal is still admirable, it's up to the player to really decide how morally good Markus' actions are.
  • Markus's competency takes a great deal of player dependence, if the player does not play accordingly with what he needs to get done for the freedom of the androids, he will be demoted from his leadership status, potentially never returning or being able to save his kind again.
