It's a switch on your fears, fear of the other. They try to isolate you. It's called divide and conquer, and they tricked you into thinking it's what you asked for. You said with one voice: We will not be lied to. We will not be afraid. We will not be silent.
~ Marcus Holloway.

Marcus Holloway is the main protagonist of Watch Dogs 2. He is a skilled hacker and vigilante who, after being convicted of a crime he didn't commit, joined the hacktivist group DedSec to expose the injustices caused by ctOS 2.0, a centralized operating system created by the Blume Corporation that controls San Francisco's infrastructure and steals citizens' private data.

He was voiced by Ruffin Prentiss.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He joined DedSec with the the intention of uncovering and exposing corruption within powerful corporations (like Nudle and Blume) as well as several government agencies that regularly use ctOS to falsely profile and monitor everyday people.
  • He uses DedSec's online platform to raise awareness for many social causes, including police brutality, LGBTQ rights, and right to privacy.
  • With his help, DedSec was able to expose Blume for its fraudulent practices and have its CEO Dušan Nemec imprisoned.
  • While his main motivation for joining DedSec was to get revenge on Blume for racially profiling him and charging him with a crime he never committed, he also genuinely cared about DedSec's cause.
  • He committed numerous heroic acts:
    • He exposed Cole Laing for being a sexual predator and using ctOS to spy on children.
    • He rescued Jimmy Siska from the New Dawn cult.
    • In the operation mission "Shadow", he helps Aiden Pearce escape when he's being held captive by the Bravtas gang.
    • And in free roam, he can save civilians from gang members, robbers, and other violent criminals.
  • Overall, he is a kind and outgoing person who fights for social justice and stands up for people who are unable to advocate for themselves. He also genuinely cares about and loves his close friends, as evident by his warm, almost brotherly relationship with Wrench and grief over Horatio's death.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He's a vigilante who breaks numerous laws and does morally-questionable things in the pursuit of justice, such as breaking and entering, hacking, and stealing important data from tech companies.
    • In free-roam, he can commit several villainous acts including, killing innocent people and police officers, wiring people's money, and being a public menace.
  • He's very reckless:
    • In his efforts to expose corrupt corporations like Blume and Nudle, there's typically a lot of collateral damage, including mass property damage.
    • He has a habit of not taking situations seriously and quipping at inappropriate times.
    • His "non-lethal" means of subduing enemies can still be pretty brutal, particularly when knocking them unconscious with his "thunderball" (8-ball on a string).
  • He can be wrathful at times:
    • After Horatio's death, he vowed revenge against those responsible. stating he was going to kill them for what they did. While he eventually came to his senses, he still arrived at the gang's base and caused a massive amount of damage in retaliation.
    • When he met Dušan a second time, he punched him and scolded him for taking advantage of others.

Trivia[]

  • He was originally proposed to be Near Pure Good, but was rejected due to being an anti-hero with several corrupting flaws.
  • He and Aiden Pearce are the only two Watch Dogs characters to be Inconsistently Admirable.
