Maleficent is the titular main protagonist of the 2014 fantasy film of the same name and its 2019 sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

In contrast to the version of the character seen in the original Sleeping Beauty film, this version of Maleficent is depicted as more tragic and sympathetic, having once been an innocent and good-hearted individual who became cruel as a result of circumstance and eventually redeemed herself after sharing a parental bond with Aurora.

She was portrayed by Angelina Jolie.

Her Heroic Ranking[]

What Makes Her Admirable?[]

Maleficent[]

  • Even before redemption, she shows kindness towards Stefan.
  • She defends her kingdom from King Henry.
  • She saves Diaval from the hunter.
  • While she is pretty hostile to Aurora, she subverts it later on.
  • She goes to fight King Stefan and defeats him.
  • She becomes a mother figure to Aurora.
  • In the sequel, she goes to Philip's kingdom with Aurora.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil[]

  • She goes to prevent the war between Queen Ingrith and her species.
  • She sacrificed herself by shielding Aurora from Ingrith's iron dust arrow, disintegrating into ashes only to be resurrected as a Phoenix.
  • She saved Aurora again from falling to her death after Ingrith threw her off the tower to escape.
  • She puts off Ingrith’s curse, which saves King John and brings peace to his kingdom.
  • She blesses Aurora and Philip's wedding and later visits them.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She too sadistic to be NPG or PG. For example, in the first movie, she throws away the soldiers after cursing Aurora. While they were searching for her and it could be self-defense, she still took pleasure from it.
  • Although the reasoning for putting a curse on Aurora is understandable enough, not to mention she does her best to stop it, it still causes the entire plot. Not to mention she cursed an innocent child just because of her old grudge towards King Stefan.
  • She has some jerk attitudes towards Diaval sometimes.
