Kyle Broflovski is the main deuteragonist of the adult-animated sitcom, South Park. He is Stan's best friend and Cartman's arch-rival/frenemy. He is a 4th grade boy coming from Jewish heritage, and because of Cartman's hatred of jews, they constantly fight.

He is voiced by Matt Stone, who is also a co-creator of the work, alongside Trey Parker.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He acts as the good to Cartman's evil on numerous occasions:
    • In Up the Down Steroid, He tries to convince Cartman not to compete in the Special Olympics, as he is genuinely worried Cartman will go to hell if he does this
    • He tries to stop Cartman from shutting Family Guy down in Cartoon Wars
    • In You're Not Yelping, Kyle and David indirectly halt the Yelp annoyance in town (despite it being in a very gross manner) started by Cartman.
    • In Kenny Dies, Kyle actually comforts Cartman, who appears to be actually upset about Kenny's death. But once it's revealed Cartman was simply exploiting it to build a new Shakey's, Kyle rightfully attacks him for Kenny.
    • In Le Petit Tourette, he attempts to ruin Cartman's chance to go on Dateline and spew hate speech about Jewish people (unaware that Cartman wanted to get off of Dateline anyway)
  • Furthering that, despite their arch-rivalrly, Kyle has been nice to Cartman on numerous occasions
    • In Jewbacabra, Kyle helps Cartman, who had been insulting Jews the entire episode, and even created a Jewish creature that kills children (it having had backfired horribly), get unchained from the chains he had been placed in, and while Cartman was unconscious, carried him back to his bed.
    • In Kenny Dies, as stated earlier, he had comforted and even hugged Cartman when the latter seemed upset.
    • In It's a Jersey Thing, Kyle had fought Snooki, who had been raping Cartman (after Cartman had attempted to lock him in a meat locker), who showed genuine appreciation.
    • He was willing to forgive and speak to Cartman again in The Death of Eric Cartman after Cartman had saved hostages in a kidnapping. (even though Cartman thought he was dead)
    • When realizing Cartman isn't Skankhunt42, Kyle felt guilty for what he did to Cartman as well crying at the photograph without Cartman on it. Kyle apologies to Cartman for what he and the other did to him as well destroying his electronic stuffs.
  • Kyle genuinely cares about his little brother, Ike, and learns that even though Ike is adopted, Kyle shouldn't love him any less.
    • On that topic, Kyle saves Ike on multiple occasions, such as when Ike was kidnapped by aliens, when Ike had been in a pedophilic relationship with a female teacher and when he learned Ike had gone to Somalia
  • In "Death", Kyle tries to prove his innocent to his classmates that he didn't have his mother, Sheila to call all the other kids' moms to stop their chilren from watching Terrance and Phillip when Sheila did it on her own.
  • Killed Zombie Kenny, making everyone revert to their original human selves.
  • Co-aided Stan and Cartman with La Resistance in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, standing up to his own mother (who had started the war) in the process.
  • Kyle, Cartman, Stan and Kenny attempt to help Chef after his mind had been raped by the Super Adventure Club, which tragically fails.
  • Kyle ends up developing a friendship with Mr. Hankey.
  • Kyle (known as Human Kite), along with the other Coon & Friends, would try to help with the Gulf Crisis in a smaller way.
  • Throughout Season 20, Kyle, along with the other school kids, attempts to figure out who Skankhunt42 is. At first, Kyle believes it to be Cartman. However, it's turned out not to be him, and Kyle, at the end of Skank Hunt, is shown to genuinely feel bad for destroying Cartman's stuff. To rebuke this, he ends up talking with Cartman and Heidi Turner, who give him more information on who Skankhunt42 could be
  • Hearing Butters beats up Scott Malkinson, Kyle and the other boys tries to lecture Butters that he cannot just go around beaten up people who has diabetes, but was trash talked by Butters.
  • Once Shelia informs Kyle that Ike was Skankhunt42, Kyle, at first, is angry, but remembering what Heidi, Ike and Gerald had said throughout the season, realizes that Skankhunt42 is not Ike, rather Gerald, his own father. At this point, Kyle defends Ike and runs out of the house with him, which gets Kyle in big trouble, despite Kyle's repeated insistence that Ike is innocent.
  • Kyle and Ike decide to work together, with Kyle confronting Gerald about his trolling, who refuses to budge, but he tells them that the people in Denmark are crazy and to call the President. Realizing TrollTrace is the bigger danger, Kyle and Ike begin to work to get it shutdown. At first, they try to get Mr. Garrison to bomb Denmark using Mr. Slave as their voice, but quickly have to backtrack because it's revealed Gerald himself is in Denmark. All of this happens while Shelia is pursuing them, believing Kyle himself to be turning into a troll. Eventually, Kyle and Ike are forced to escape due to their mother becoming impossible to control, with Kyle telling her he's doing this to protect the family.
  • While his mother is in persistent pursuit of him, Kyle (while having Ike lay low) teams up with the others boys (aside from Cartman and Butters), Mr. Garrison and indirectly Gerald, to get TrollTrace shut down. Kyle tells Mr. Garrison to reroute the Internet to SpaceX, which Garrison does. This causes the internet's entire cache to clear, effectively erasing everything.
  • While still angered because of what he and Ike went through, Kyle doesn't rat Gerald out about his true identity to Shelia.
  • Worried about Cartman's abusive nature to Heidi Turner, he attempts to explain Cartman's manipulation to her, which works for a while, but pisses Cartman off. Unfortunately, however, Heidi later reverts and begins going down a darker path despite Kyle's warnings.
  • In Splatty Tomato, Kyle humbles Heidi, who had become like Cartman, by telling her he wouldn't be interested in who she is now after Heidi attempted to tell Kyle he was only angry because she rejected him. This has an impact later on, as Heidi realizes who she'd become.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • This is South Park, which never takes itself seriously and uses satirical comedy, as well as giving almost all characters anti-heroic or jerkish qualities for the sake of laughs, and although the series does have messages relating to societal issues, Kyle and the others are far too played for laughs to be NPG or PG.
  • Despite being the more morally driven of the four core boys, Kyle himself has had moments of being a jerk, due to his wrathful temper and overconfidence:
    • In Butt Out, he, along with the other Boys, attempt to smoke a cigarette, which causes the school to burn down.
    • He kicks his brother, Ike, a lot, usually saying, "Kick the baby!" before doing so. As this seems to become less of a trend in later seasons, it could be minor.
    • In preschool, him and his friends accidentally set a teacher on fire and blamed Trent Boyett for it just to save their own skins which resulted in him getting put in Juvie for 5 years.
    • He insults Cartman as a "fat-ss" and generally sees him more as an archenemy than a friend, although this is somewhat justified given Cartman's personality. Still, Kyle has been known to let his hate of Cartman get the better of him.
  • While Cartman of course has the more antagonistic role, Kyle himself has had antagonistic moments toward Cartman and others, such as in “Tonsil Trouble”, where Kyle, rather than comforting Cartman, bursts into laughter at the irony of Cartman having AIDs, only to become hypocritical later on, becoming pissed when Cartman gives him AIDs. Another such moment is when he formed M.A.C (Millennials Against Canada) similar to his mother, which escalates into Canada getting a nuke dropped on them, which causes Kyle to realize what he had done.
  • He, much like the other boys, often uses Butters as a means to the end, such as in The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerBalls, then gets mad when Butters not only doesn't get in trouble, but also gets the credit for their book. As such, the Boys attempt to take Butters down.

Trivia[]

  • He is the third South Park character to be Inconsistently Admirable.
    • He is also the third member of The Boys to be proposed and approved.
  • His and Cartman’s fluctuating moral standings as archenemies can make them somewhat parallel to Mr. Krabs’ and Plankton’s rivalry throughout the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise.
