Kurama is one of the secondary antagonists of the Elfen Lied series.

His Good Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • Due to the Elfen Lied series being heavily reliant on the reader to decide, it makes the following debatable:
    • While he was the one to say to Lucy Aiko died signs of her survival become debatable within Elfen Lied fandom on if he lied to her to discourage her from escaping while sending Aiko to her home or Aiko's mother published her art but still effected Lucy's mental state either way.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • While he did do acts for the Diclonius Research Institution it was due to him being blackmailed by Director Kakuzawa with his daughter Mariko's life on the line.
  • Despite his high resources, Elfen Lied has a low admirable standard since heroism isn't common, he is able to stand out through his actions and doesn't hold back on his high resources. Plus, he loses them later on in the Manga when he defects from the Diclonius Research Institution anyways.

Both Adaptions[]

  • He would join the Diclonius Research Institution in hopes of protecting humanity from the Diclonius.
  • While he did try to kill his own daughter he shown hesitation and would later honor his dying wife's wishes to keep her safe plus only tried to do it to end her suffering when revealed in a later arc.
  • Despite his methods he had good intentions of capturing and containing Lucy to keep others safe.
  • He ultimately given Nana enough care and love despite not being his own child preventing her from giving into the DNA Voice's influence and later defies Director Kakuzawa's orders to put Nana down smuggling her away to safely and giving her money to last long enough even though she used it as firewood.
  • He would help Bando repair his replacement limbs in exchange for having him help him.
  • He would manage to reform his daughter Mariko after admitting how he truly care for her and accepting her which also save Nana's life too. Though Mariko would get killed off in both adaptions however.

Anime[]

  • He would manage to save Nana from falling to her death after Mariko pushed her off a bridge managing to catch her in time.
  • He would allow himself and Mariko to be blown up for atoning for his crimes.

Manga[]

  • He would attempt to make Mariko and Nana stop fighting while also attempting to protect her from Lucy (Who a bit more villainous in the Manga).
  • While he did push Nana away it was due to Mariko’s death effecting him and would later subvert it when he saved her from Mariko's clones.
  • He would attempt to kill Lucy though unintentionally shot Kouta who protected her.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • While he did redeem himself he spent majority of the series as a Grey-Zoned Anti-Villain and while had good intentions he committed too many immoral and questionable acts to be Pure Good or Near Pure Good:
    • While he was forced to do it and had good intentions, he showed nearly almost no remorse for the MANY Diclonius children he put down or subjected to painful torture as while he did show it at first, he eventually subverted it and while he did shown remorse it was only to some of them. It doesn't help at all he originally tried to put down his OWN DAUGHTER Mariko down at birth and only stopped due to his wife's dying wishes protecting her and still remorseless try to kill her when she finally wanted to see him again.
      • While it is true the Diclonius are a hostile species and the Manga state they are made to replace humanity and instinctively hostile since there signs of them doing good with Nana, Lucy and Mariko with more clear signs as it was mostly due to mistreatment and not be given enough love that drove the two latter to villainy especially when Mariko only wanted her parents more than anything and Nana didn't got driven into murdering humans since she given more love despite facing cruel experiments. This shows there could've been far better humane methods of dealing the Diclonius than mass infanticide and horribly mistreatment as giving them enough love would've prevented or at least heavily reduce chances of giving into the DNA Source’s influence.
    • He had no problem in endangering civilians as he indirectly got Aiko and Kouta shot that ultimately heavily effected Lucy's state due to him not realizing their importance to her and the latter making her nearly destroying the Earth from the trauma while it was unintentionally heinous this makes him far too lethal and remorseless though he did felt remorse for both of his assistants deaths making him not completely remorseless.
      • While Aiko's fate reliant up to the reader to decide, either way it still effected Lucy's mental state as he ultimately blamed her for getting Aiko harmed than admitting he didn't mean to get her harmed or showing remorse.
    • His act of shooting Lucy wasn't completely justified since she redeemed herself though she initially allowed herself to get shot before DNA Voice and Kouta’s intervention for remorse of her crimes making it a minor prevention.
  • He has some minor jerkish and arrogant moments though is usually calm minded making it a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • Him, Kaede, and Bando are the only Elfen Lied Inconsistently Admirable so far. He is also the only Non-Hero from the series too.
