Subject-1322B: Kevin Barnes is a major antagonist and the final boss of Safe Haven, the fourth chapter of the 2021 indie horror game Poppy Playtime.
He is one of the three children that make up Experiment-1322: Doey the Doughman, one of Playtime Co.'s most dangerous creations. A violent problem child with anger issues, Kevin's rage at his friends' deaths results in him turning against the Intruder and Poppy, ultimately becoming the final boss of the chapter.
Just like Doey the Doughman (due to him, Jack and Matthew possessing him), he was voiced by Michael Kovach.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- After the Hour of Joy, he dedicated himself to protecting Safe Haven toys for 10 years from many threats like Harley Sawyer, the Prototype and possibly CatNap. His resilience angered Sawyer so much that he set liquid nitrogen traps specifically for him.
- Though Matthew is consistently portrayed as the wiser one within Doey, Doey didn't talk with himself during the tape where he decided to stay despite his fears, showing that all three personalities were in agreement.
- While he did banish Pianosaurus from Safe Haven, it's understandable due to him being too dangerous as Pianosaurus accidentally killed a mini Hoppy Hopscotch and could've potentially endangered the other Safe Haven residents.
- Allowed Jack Ayers to save Intruder from being killed by Pianosaurus.
- While all parts of Doey helped protect Safe Haven for years, Kevin still stands out from Matthew and Jack, as his portion of Doey carries the anger and aggression that the toy is shown to possess, which, coupled with Doey's natural power, make him a dangerous threat for enemy toys within the factory, as exemplified with Pianosaurus.
- Deeply hates the Doctor and, despite his aggressive personality, cares for the other Safe Haven toys, as the main things he holds against Sawyer while angrily ranting against him is starving and making sick the toys at Safe Haven.
- Despite not trusting the Intruder, he still helps them as part of Doey and never tries to go against the other personalities and turn on him until the explosions happened, which caused a breakdown.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has anger issues that are far too severe for him to be NPG. Even before becoming a toy, he beat his friends on an occasion and had a rather combative and violent nature. This gets even worse after his transformation into Doey as he kills Jack Ayers' parents since he thought they were trying to manipulate him into being obedient.
- At the end of the chapter, he foolishly accused the Intruder of destroying the Safe Haven (even though it wasn't their fault) and killing his friends before trying to kill them and Poppy in a fit of rage, making him a fallen hero.
- Additionally, he not only killed Jack Ayers' parents but also tried to kill the Intruder several times, when they were just trying to run away from him making him too lethal, unlike the Intruder who only kills the toys in self defense.
- He has moral agency issues as his anger issues were a result of neural abnormalities as noted by Scientist 4, something he had no control over. However, this is a minor prevention as he showed standards and was clearly disgusted at The Prototype and Sawyer's horrific crimes.
- In the VHS tape called Warden Office 8/8/1995, Doey's roar can be heard in the back meaning that he took part in the Hour of Joy, which means that he helped the Prototype in killing all the Intruder's former co-workers, and committing mass murder. This clearly points to Kevin being the personality to go along with the Hour of Joy, due to his hatred of Playtime Co. and it's also shown again during his breakdown against the Intruder, as he was easily able to overpower both Jack and Matthew's influence.
- Unlike Matthew or Jack, who both feel clearly remorseful for Kevin's actions in trying to kill the Intruder to the point of apologizing for his actions, Kevin is the only one who doesn't apologize to the Intruder.
Trivia[]
- He is, so far, the only character in Poppy Playtime to be Inconsistently Admirable, though Poppy could qualify.
