“ | I haven't changed. My goal's always been the same-- To surpass All Might and become the Number One Hero. | „ |
~ Bakugo to Setsuna in "Early Bird". |
“ | Our whole lives, I've looked down on you. You were Quirkless, obviously way behind me. But somehow, it felt like you were ahead of me too. I hated that. I hoped you'd disappear. I didn't want to accept you. So I bullied you, to make sure you'd stay away. I had to reject you, so that I could feel superior. I needed to win to beat you... then we both got into U.A., where not a single thing played out the way I wanted it to. Everyday, I was forced to see how strong you were, and how weak I was. Saying this out loud doesn't change a thing, but it's how I feel, Izuku... I'm sorry for everything... you made the right calls ever since you inherited One For All, followed the best path, acted like a real symbol. But I can see that you're lost right now. You hit a wall that you can't overcome with ideals alone, so we'll handle the things you can't take care of yourself. In order to be our best selves... we'll save you, the refugees at U.A., and everyone else. Anybody out there in need of a hero! | „ |
~ Bakugo apologizing to Midoriya for the way he treated him over the years and vowing to save him and everyone along with Class 1-A. |
“ | One more thing. When you guys are in danger... I'll protect you. | „ |
~ Katsuki to Jirou in the Joint Training match |
Katsuki Bakugo, also known by his hero name, Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, and his nickname, Kacchan, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside All Might) of the My Hero Academia franchise.
He is enrolled in U.A. High School's Hero Department and is a member of Class 1-A. Once a bully and all-around jerk, especially to his former childhood friend, Midoriya, he redeems himself as the series goes on, becoming a true hero and friend to his classmates.
He is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Clifford Chapin in the English version of the anime.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Despite all his admirable deeds and redeeming qualities, he is a massive jerk for most of the series, and often acts incredibly abrasive (or even sadistic) to everyone around him (especially when Midoriya is concerned). While he does eventually outgrow these qualities, they were still too prominent of the story and his actions were also far too severe.
- At the beginning of the story, he suicide-dares him for being Quirkless after destroying his desk and notebook and he later strikes him in rage several times, such as during the Final Exams.
- It's not helping that his serious anger issues, in general, can get out of control and go far too overboard to the point of getting mad, rabid and act violent and hostile at everyone without good reason (especially when he often lashes out at Izuku, who doesn't do much to provoke him), and his uncontrollable wrath and anger issues are always an overwhelming factor of his ill-tempered personality. This shows how aggressive he usually is in general.
- Although not entirely his character, he rudely dismisses anyone who even tries to be close to him ever since the Sludge Villain incident, showing some misanthropy. While it's not extreme, but he prefers to work alone, calls anyone around by a derogatory nickname or “extra”, slaps Midoriya when he says he needs help, and only asks for help out of pragmatism or when he can use Kirishima and Kaminari, who he barely respects, to help him as he ordered.
- When he was relegated to nothing more than an errand boy during the Otheon mission, all he did was complain and shout about how unfair it was before throwing away Endeavor’s groceries to catch jewel thieves.
- He attacks and issues death threats (though these threats are empty) to Midoriya during the Battle Trails while awfully excusing his horrible actions as "being okay so long as [Midoriya] dodges".
- He was also shown to be relentlessly cruel towards kids as well, as he was seen threatening them one time and also wanted to teach kids lessons by the form of inflicting torture on their leader via throwing rocks at someone tied and hanged up in the Remedial Course Arc. Even if Bakugo said that this was how he was raised, this is still very wrong and a bad thing to teach kids, which can make him seem like a potential child abuser despite Bakugo only being a teenager.
- Even in the series' Epilogue over seven years later, it's shown that he's not a well-liked hero and has dropped quite a bit on the Hero Billboard for his mistreatment to those all around him, as shown with a video of him angrily yelling at his fans that were trying to film him.
- He is also extremely arrogant and self-absorbed, and while this is mainly due to his hidden insecurities, this doesn't make it any less of a prevention for the fact that he is way too prideful of himself to the point of being condescending, reckless and hypocritical.
- This has been taken to the point where during the Final Exams Arc, Midoriya even points out how idiotic Bakugo's ideals of "never getting help from anyone", even against enemies he can't defeat, genuinely are.
- Momo Yaoyorozu even calls out Katsuki for how reckless he was being with his arrogance during his fight with Izuku in the Battle Trial.
- Since it's his fighting style and behavior in combat to make himself noticeably very angry and brutal, he can arguably be considered lethal and a berserker by habit.
- He is an anti-hero since his goal was fundamentally selfish, due to mainly being after fame and glory in his quest to become the No. 1 Hero and wanting to make others weak for the sake of his own inflated ego.
